Best Civ for Real Start Earth Map in VI

Philip is not too bad, you do appreciate armadas more if he has built them. He can ruin your day

I always approach Pedro with care. His jungle adjacency is strong so he can have those early battleships out earlier than expected and he does like his admirals.
As soon as he is in the industrial age I tread with care or go in with full force... then you find he has subs as well :(

The AI is now playing a lot better than it used to with regard to good units and using them with some agression. Yes its not perfect by any means but better is great and I always wonder if the AI is too good it may steamroller itself.

I've played about half of my Civ 6 games on Gedemon's Giant Earth Map. Both Norway and England have interesting TSL areas. (Rome's start is crazy good.) I pretty much always play with mods now, and there is a newer one that buffs up Norway:

You get a naval melee unit any time you settle on the coast (or build a Harbor), and any units in the water with it will inherit the ship's movement, so you can really spread out quickly. Plus they act like GG's for Classical Era units.

Units have no penalty on amphibious attacks, and only pay 1 movement for pillaging. Beserker costs are in line with Swords, and are unlocked in the civics tree with Military Training. (43 strength, +7 on offense, -7 on defense.) Stave Church is still there (I usually skip religion nowadays), but they removed the vanilla Coastal Raiding UA.

Combined with an improved water yields (name?) mod, Norway becomes a real blast!

Well comparing Berserkers to Knights. I'm now building them before I have Frigates. Both have 4 movement in enemy territory. Berserkers have 51 attack with Oligarchy, 44 defense. Knights don't get any bonuses from Oligarchy, so it's a static 48. Berserkers get a production card from Feudalism where you should be going anyways, Knights get it from Divine Right. Divine Right is a bit off for me and I propably won't be even going that direction and I'll skip the line all together, going Mercenaries and Exploration instead. Knights are Heavy Cavalry, Berserkers are Melee, so they have different promotion trees. I'm thinking that the tier 1 promotions for melee are overall better than for cavalry. The second tier has Amphibious so that means the Berserkers are going to be sea cavalry for me after that. I'll see how it goes!

I do like @Gedemon 's mods. a must for Earth-map type players. Giant is cumbersome if you don't have an aces machine, if there are barbs in there, which are kind of required to keep the AI expansionists in check, turn times can be rather cumbersome by the late game. The Greatest earth map is perfect with the YnAMP sub-mod that limits barbs to 2 camps per civ.

As far as I know, only the YnAMP maps allow you to put every civ on the map... or the colonial option with only old-world civs (no Brazil, Aztec, or America). Super fun for a Colonisation-type game

The sea dog can be ulgraded but thats small consilation for not working.
upgraded into... you can't upgrade into the Privateer class? Same problem that America's Rough Rider has... it's not a bad unit, but costs quite a lot of cogs, and you can't make a bunch of it's upgradable units for a rush (like Heavy chariots and Mamluks, for example). it's just a bad design which nerfs UUs such as America and Norway

The problem (at least for me) about the default earth map with tsl is that some civs start literally next to each other and you have to manually select which civs are in play.
For example, if you play germany and france happens to be in the game, their settler starts next to your warrior, kinda hard to resist stealing that...same things goes for egypt/arabia.

I meant it can be upgraded to a sub unlike some other UU's out there.
Because they do not work they have little value. If they did work I would build a fleet of them

Sea Horses?

Sea Horses! My Berserkers are still rocking, only lost one of them but once they got the +10 ranged defense promotion they became pretty good. And now they are Musketmen. They are pretty good of an unit actually, I needed them between Quadriremes and Frigates(Took 2 cities with them) and now they are making up as Musketmen between Frigates and Battleships. An underrated unit if you ask me.

So I have still yet to figure out Civ 6 (mostly through lack of playing.) I love TSL Earth maps, especially those that don't melt my computer, so I gave Aussie a try on Prince. I found it simple enough to colonize South America and I'm running a significant tech and civic lead, but unable to figure out how to seal the deal. (Short of, I guess, taking over the world.)

If I were to host a game, do people still read and offer feedback on games like in the Civ4 forums? It might be fun to resurrect Neal's fine King of the World series. (Whatever happened to him? :( )

The map is good! To me it feels like Norway is totally OP compared to Vicky or Hojo. I build only 1 settler for my second city and now I have stolen so many that I have 5 of them and I don't know where to put them. Also have loads of builders and am running out of tiles to chop or improve. You also seem to get +1 movement for troops in shallow water which is insane together with the coastal pillaging. Berserkers seemed really good when you take into account the needed civ card for their production boost and the techs needed to get them. And the two facts that they are melee and have the melee promotion tree and they upgrade to Musketmen. I could have easily won this game by turn 180 if I'd gone for the two remaining capitals I haven't conquered.. but just want to drive Russia to the Pacific now..

Just finished another time the Viking scenario. Not sure if it's scenario related, or the new patch, but in this game the amphibious promotion was bugged. Didn't worked at all attacking from sea. Can someone confirm me it's working in a regular game?

My favorite was Australia.

Can someone post an end of game save? Would like to see the whole map. Any civ/ level is fine.

Thanks,
MIS
