Of those listed I'd choose Civ IV and it is the best TBS game I've played but you can't really compare games from different genres. Morrowind is my favourite RPG, Crusader Kings my favourite RTS, and King of Dragon Pass my favourite strategy with RP elements game.
He knows of the All Other Games Sub-Forum. He's hated by the majority of active participants there because he makes polls like this then quotes IGN and says "you're wrong"
FWIW I voted Half Life 2, but what I really meant was Counter Strike: Source closely followed by Team Fortress 2.
Wow, I thought I liked computer games. The only ones I've played on this list is the Civilization franchise and maybe Tetris on a old GameBoy. Why these choices and not others?
I think it's very hard to say what's the best game ever, but it might be possible to say what you think was the most influencial or legendary game ever. Then there are a few games that have a chance, like Doom, Civilization, Dune 2...
Like all computer game series Civilization also evolved in a positive way. One might think Civ4 wasn't an improvement to Civ3 or Civ3 wasn't to Civ2, but the general line is up. (Civ4 is almost uncontroversially better than Civ1.) So it's kinda weird to vote for Civ1 when Civ4 is an option too, but since I'm not up-to-date with the latest best shoot-em-ups and RTS games, racing games, sport games, etc. I can't compare it with those (if that is possible at all). So I vote for Civ1 as a combination of best and legendary.
Horrible poll options - what site did you take them from ?
That would explain a lot of things like W2 & D1 instead of W3 & D2. While the latter were MUCH more popular, the former influenced the gaming industry.
I refuse to vote because I'm not sure how meaningful this poll is.
Lousy options aside, how many of these are even comparable? It may be fair to compare, say, Doom to Half-Life or Goldeneye since they're in the same genre, but Doom to Civilization? One person prefers Doom because it's more exciting, one prefers Civ because it requires more strategy. The two have such disparate designs that it's apples to oranges. This poll shows nothing but personal preference.
