The Godfather.

In my opinion, the best movie ever made was One Flew Over the ****oo's Nest.

The combination of flawless acting, humor, deep meaning, and one of the greatest villains in movie history is what propels it to the top of my list.

The Holy Grail is great in its own right, you can't really compare it to films like the Godfather or Lawrence of Arabia, because they're so totally different.
That said, my favorite movie is Planet of the Apes (the 1968 version!!!). Another movie from 1968, 2001: A space odyssey, would be my second choice.

I wouldn't say best, just one of the funniest.

Great films should not only make you laugh but also cry, inside anyway. There have been nominations in this category in previous threads.

I am now starting the Lord Draegon closed thread count in my sig.

Also: best movie I have seen: It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World. (and I bet I am the only one here who has seen it)

So sorry, but you're wrong. There are more of us old farts floating
around here than you think ;) . And yes, it's a great movie. Just
not the greatest, IMO.

What didn't you like about it?

Oh yeah, that too. I forgot that one.

;)

I loved that movie because it brought back so many memories of my time living in Texas, such as the time when I actually visited the Alamo.

Well if thats the criteria then its easily LoTR 2 & 3, Call me weird, but I swear I almost cried when the rohan cavalry came over that ridge with the sun behind them on the imax screen in the 3rd movie, it was just so moving, I'm tearing up right now just thinking about it  :goodjob:

I have just recently seen "Nuremburg", now THAT is a good movie . . .

The Usual Suspects
LoTR series
Monty Python - holy grail and life of brian

I see. Would you recommend it to someone like me, who's never been to Texas?

The old version (black and white) or the new one? The new one was pretty good (although a bit too pro-Ally), but in my opinion the only thing the old one had going for it was giving you something to think about (that is, whether or not the Nazis deserved to be punished).

All three LOTR movies are some of the best movies I've ever seen.
The Matrix (*just* the first one...) is also up there.
Holy Grail is a funny movie, to be sure, but it's definitely not one of the best - especially if you consider the production quality... It's only marginally better than Life of Brian and the Meaning of Life too.

Apocalypse Now Redux(some great lines, and shows the drug induced madness of Vietnam)
Das Boot (one of the best, most poignant, historically accurate and well flmed anti-war movies ever)
Bowling for Columbine (very sad and poignant, makes me very angry, but also very funny.
Good Morning Vietnam.
Pulp Fiction ("You know what they call a double quarterpounder with cheese in France? A 'Royale with cheese'")
The Shawshank Redemption
A Night At The Opera (The Marx brothers crack me up every time in this film)
