Best song of the 80s?

Very hard to tell, I can't break it down to one song. Heck, all that 'New Wave' crap is just great.

I like the big variety of all that pop stuff published, whether it's *cheesy* Flock of Seagulls ("Transfer Affections", "I ran" or "Space Age Lovesong" are just awesome...), Duran Duran (I got the really great extended version of "Girls On Film"), Flash & The Pan ("Early Morning Wake Up Call") or.........
Then there were those killer disco tracks ("My Spine Is The Bass Line"/Shriekback, "Being Boiled"/Human League, "Love Like Blood"/Killing Joke, "Ignore The Machine"/Alien Sex Fiend, "Love Missile F1-11"/Sigue Sigue Sputnik, "Das Modell"/Kraftwerk.......)
Mmmh, then I enjoy listening to punk(-pop) stuff, The Fall ("L.A.", "Cruiser's Creek", Kinks cover "Victoria", "Mr. Pharmacist"), The Vibrators ("Baby Baby"), The Only Ones ("Another Girl, Another Planet"), XTC ("Making Plans For Nigel" and....

Break it down to one song - no way. Too many different (inventive) songs in the 80's.:)

It's hard to pick one but these are my favourites

Gangajang - Sounds of then.
Men at Work - Down Under
U2 - Sunday bloody sunday
Australian crawl - Unpublished critics
Midnight oil - Hercules
Hoodoo Gurus - Whats my scene?

Jack and Diane - John "Cougar" Mellencamp
Under Pressure - Queen and David Bowie
Free Fallin' - Tom Petty
With Or Without You - U2
Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2) - Pink Floyd
Walk This Way - Run-DMC (with Steven Tyler/Joe Perry)
Sunday Bloody Sunday - U2

icehouse- no promises
naked eyes - promises promises
ultravox - vienna (probably the best song ever)
blue . . (?) - tinseltown in the rain

I'd would have to go for Van Halen, Jump or Panama.

Cars-Gary Numan
Number of the Beast-Iaron Maiden
Pet Shop Boys-It`s a Sin
Sentinel-Judas Priest

Not even going to try. . .to many songs that I love from that decade, and can't say which one is the best.

Hmm. . .The Safety Dance? :p
Note: Not actually my pick

Oooh soooo maaaaany to chose from...

Iron Maiden - Run To The Hills or The Number of the Beast.
Either one... Both! :)

"I walk along the avenue
I never thought I'd meet a girl like you
Meet a girl like you
With velvet hair and tawny eyes
The kind of eyes that hypnotize me through
Hypnotize me through...

And I ran
I ran so far away..."

Richard III is so right about that song...classic! :goodjob:
My favorite songs from the 80's are the ones covered by "Me First and the Gimme Gimmes". Old school with a punk rock taste! You download "Walk like an Egyptian" by them and tell me it's not good.
I also have a soft spot for "Summer of 69" by Bryan Adams.

Fade To Black - Metallica

Summertime Rolls by Jane's Addiction.

Boys of Summer by Don Henley.

Welcome to the Jungle by GNR.

About a Girl by Nirvana.

Don't You Forget About Me - Simple Minds
