Best Strategy Game Ever Nominations

Turn based - civ4 bts
- Galactic civ 2 a close second

Real time - Company of heroes
Rome total war

Ummm... Victoria has at least 3 nominations already.

Ignore him, he's just a troll.

Alternatively, flame him, he's just a troll.

Or, as a third alternative, troll the troll.

Oh, and Team Fortress 2, Civ 3 & 4, and AoE 2 are my favourite strategy games.

Transport Tycoon and Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 get honourable mentions for effectively being the original games to get me obsessed with various forms of strategy games.

Civ 2/SMAC
EU 2
Ascendency
Kohan

just got Kohan 2 so I can't say I like it better then Immortal or AG don't have EU3 and I am a nostalgic at heart.... I'd like to put Gal Civ up there but I just didn't get into it, not its fault it competed with alot of other good games at the time.

PS SMAC> Civ 4

Nope!

C&C Tiberium Dawn
C&C Red Alert
Civilization III
Civilizatio IV
Empire at War
Medival Total War
Master of Orion II

get my votes.

I'm simply dying to know what IGN and Gamespot say about this.

CIV II
CIV III
CIV IV BtS
Heroes of Might and Magic (HoMM) III Shadow of Death
HoMM IV + extensions
Sim City 4 + Rush hour
Dune 2 (to name an RtS and for nostalgia's sake)
X-Com : Apocalypse (not sure of the name, I mean the 3rd one, after terror from the deep)(First one can enter the list, too)
Archon II
Rome : Total War

There, good enough for you ?

Age of Empires 2
Alpha Centauri
Civ III
Civ III: Conquests
Civ IV: BTS
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Master of Orion 2
Rome: Total War
Starcraft
Warcraft III

Good enough?

Team Fortress 2 is a great game, but it is NOT a strategy game.

From the games I have played, in no specific order.

World in Conflict
Company of Heroes
Age of Empires 2
Hearts of Iron 2 & Expansions
Starcraft
Civ 3
Civ 4 (I really need to get expansions)
Rome: Total War
Empire Earth (Original, its outdated now, but back then, it was awesome)
Mud & Blood 2 (On Kongregate)
Battalion: Nemesis (Also on Kongregate, like Advance Wars)

Yes, it is. You don't win unless your strategy is better than the other team's.
Your tactics in TF2 are important, but I'd say implementation is another huge thing too.

I like C3C, Vicky (with VIP:R), Europa Barbarorum, and StarCraft. Hoping that the EU III boxed set that I will acquire in half a week will be up to par. :)

azzaman: Team Fortress 2 uses tactics, but it is not a strategy game. Sure, you may have a team. However, in the majority of the servers, most people rarely have actual teamwork, unless in the case of medics. Most will simply go pursuit their own selfish goals and will still win.

Public servers are not an accurate representation.

How is that different to any other game? It's one thing to have a well planned strategy, it's another to impliment it.

But theoretically you could say that about most team games, if not all. Halo for best strategy game? :p I guess the popular perception of a 'strategy' game is that one concentrates on the leaders, and the followers don't get independent thoughts of their own, performing in predictable ways?

The thing about TF2 is more that the strategy of the team is more influential on the result than the individual skills. Which is why I believe it qualifies as a strategy game.
