Has anyone reported the endless spinning globe (aka "Waiting For Civilizations...") bug, where the turn never ends? I see that the latest RevDCM has it, and I'm trying to figure out if it's in the Better AI code as well, or it's just something isolated to RevDCM.
Description: I had my first random event with "Event Images" switched on. The image was displayed correctly, but the last line of the event description text was missing.
Could you upload the image of this popup, after having scrolled down? Unly then I can really see how much is cut off.
I tried loading the savegame with 50civs dll but it crashes for me.
Ah, I didn't think this was necessary since the words are missing only from the event description itself, not from the options below it. Here's the image you requested:
My mistake, sorry. Contrary to what I said in my previous post, the two XML files that I added to the mod to get bigger map sizes, are necessary to load the savegame. I attached the missing files to this post. Adding them to your BBAI folder should remove the load crash.
Of course you are right, I didn't pay enough attention and was assuming if text is cut off it must be from the bottom, which would have been bad.
It's exactly as EF says, it's EXE so we can't really fix it, but it should be possible to simply add a newline to the description text in the dll, this missing line would then be displayed and in all cases where it would not be needed there'll be a wider space between decription and options, which I'd think is harmless.
If it also happens to the option paragraphs we'd still be screwed though.
I have been using the BBAI for a little while now and noticed my siege engines were attacking more often than there were units and noticed it is attacking after the siege engines have done their full damage. I manually select the siege engine and hover it over the city I'm attacking and it doesn't even give me the odds anymore, but it still attacks even though it won't inflict anymore damage. I have lost lots of siege engine with this many times.
also, I seem to have a problem with it attacking with my siege engines when my attacking units have over 99% chance of winning and I unnecessarily lose siege engines.
I'm sorry if this has been covered, but I didn't read the several hundred messages. I use BBAI 1.00e, which is about a month old.
I don't know anything about that modcomp so I can only promise to take a look at it, and might add it when I merge in Advanced Automatitions. If it involves python code you're out of luck though.
Mark: the siege bug has been corrected by jdog in the meantime in his 1.01c release, it was a bug in Lead From Behind.
I have no idea if adding new automations breaks saves. I know adding new missions does NOT, but I've never tested it with automations. I don't know how big of a deal save compatibility is with you, but I know Jdog and EF care a lot. It's worth testing anyway.
Also, it is in a finished state, but I may update it in the future with some AI refinements.
Well I am pretty sure if you touch Enums you can kiss savegame compatibility good-bye so I am very convinced adding new automatitions or other missions (like BULL's new sentry actions) does break saves. Which is the only reason behind my wanting to wait for a "final" version even if I know there is no such thing as long as the developer doesn't quit
I would bet that adding new automation and mission types doesn't break forward saved game compatibility, meaning you can load older saves but not newer ones. Is this what you meant, Afforess?
Not a person, normally, but when playing in an SG or trying to open games posted to the forums someone could be using an older version or not using BUG at all.
The only time when it actually matters is when there's a savegame with a reproducable bug and I get the desire to test if it's my merge that's causing trouble or if the fault lies with Better BTS AI. In those cases I wish I had both known and cared that including New Sentry Actions here makes it impossible to load saves in Better BTS AI. Now, since my merge is already incompatible to everything else I have no excuse to not include Advanced Automations anyway, I was just too lazy before. But here comes 2 days WM break, and semester is over, and new Better AI stuff is up, so no more excuses left; I hope I can get to do some work on it tomorrow.
There is hope. I rewrote so much of New Sentry Actions that I didn't keep up with Pep's changes, and one such change would help you here and with Afforess's mod. You can create an action that would remove all new missions and automations from units. To check a save with BAI you'd open it in BBAI, hit that key, save again, and then open that compatible save in BAI.
Yes, it's possible that the issue you're tracking down is caused by one of the new missions or automations, but at least you can debug the cases where it's not.
Some friends and I play direct IP, but we always get an OoS message at the beginning along with a note that one of the players, always the same one, has different game files to the other 2 of us. We have checked all the main file formats, 3.19bts patch, BUG, BULL Better AI etc and they are all the same. Any ideas why this OoS keeps occurring??? Usually, we save the game on the first turn and upon reloading the same 'different game files' warning comes up but the OoS disappears.
Thanks a lot, you have done a GREAT job with this.
Do know little about it, so if it says different game files, I'd assume different game files.
I do not know how you compare folders there but you need to confirm that the same files exist in all your Assets folders (Vanilla, Warlords, BTS, Better BUG AI) and that those files are identical.
I can't help if that guy has additional files in any of his folders but if he has changed or removed an existing one, this should help: All Assets for Better BUG AI 1.01f (2010-07-01).sfv
Extract the sfv to your main Civ4 folder and run it with some sfv app like RapidCRC. If any file is changed, it should show up as corrupted which you can bring to the top by clicking the header of the Info column twice.

Critical bug from Better AI: if you move all defenders out of a city, it can never be conquered. I hope I can fix it on Wednesday, until then: defend your cities. Or use 1.01b.
