Betting and Speculation - The "Entirely Separate Hypercube" Civ!

In practice it essentially means the Queen has power so long as she never tries to use it. The Governer General can theoretically block some things implemented by the government but it would cause a lot of outcry in the public. The Canadian media has discussions on whether the monarchy is necessary in this day at least once a year.

This suggestion would be a really, really, out of the box suggestion, (and probably really unlikely) but what if that 9th civ was one that each player created? What i mean is you could pick a name, make a city list, choose a leader name, choose colors, as long as another civ didn't have these colors, you could pick from a set of generic leaderheads or flags, and then you could make your own set of UA, UU, and UB/UI. You could pick from existing ones, or pick from a set of components to make your own. You could change your civ at any time, and you could play as it!

It would fit the achievement list theory, because Your Civ would be in between P-Z.

Even though it is almost certain to not be in, i think it still could be really fun.

I always wanted something like this to be in. A "Create A Civ" option. Choose colors, and choose from a list of various unique bonuses. It'd be fantastic.

I kinda doubt it'll happen, but it'd be a really neat feature to see added someday.

I said this and the reply was that they are the same individual personally (as opposed to legally), which is not untrue.

i dont want to discuss semantics. the thing is that one of the potential venice hints was "most serene civilization", while venice is one of the Most Serene Republics.
it's basically a phrase that is used in the exact same way in the context of that civilization.

now with canada we have the same constellation. the phrase "entirely separate hypercube" and the link i provided above (from a government website) with the exact same phrase as well as the fact that hypercube is a canadian movie.
it's supposed to be a hint, not a proper classification of the canadian state.

Create-a-civ would be awesome, the idea reminds me of the Empire Earth games (well, first and second, never played third).

And Canada won't be in unless the alphabet theory is false and they plan on including it without Quebec.

Thanks guys for the positive feedback. If this was in, i would be crazy happy. Being able to create Omani, Mughal, Osage, Sicilian, Hungarian, Mexican, and Malinese nations would be just unbelievable for me. I also think that it would be really smart for Firaxis to do this, because if you have people say "I wish Civ B was in the game instead of Civ A", those people would be able to just create it themselves, with their own personal touches!
Everyone is happy.

isn't that what the workshop is for?

Canada may not be in it due to the alphabet theory, but what of some Canadian tribe? It fits the Native American theory. Maybe some Inuit tribe, I am not keen on all of the names. Perhaps they will gravitate towards tundra and snow, being able to survive and flourish in these areas. But that is hardly outside of the box.

I don't understand the word "crunch" in this context. Elaborate? But then again, I don't understand role playing at all either.

in roleplaying games, (as i understand the terms) "fluff" is the story elements contained in some product (a rulebook) and "crunch" are the mechanics. so, in the civilopedia, the stats of a unit (and what tech needs to be researched, start promotions, etc.) are crunch, and the text about the unit's historical significance is "fluff".

(completely off topic for anyone wondering what this has to do with "hypercube". the terms just came up several pages back.)

Thank you, that makes sense.

For the life of me, I cannot see how a unit's historical significance has anything to do with the game. For example, Sweden has a rifle replacement UU but its name and significance totally escapes me (or more accurately, I never cared), except that they are easy to kill. :)

I don't imagine a nomadic NA civ would be nomadic in the space age or whatever. I think they'd probably be nomadic for the first few eras or something.

That's just because you haven't seen the new Hobo civilization.

Unique Unit: Panhandler, replacement for worker. Goes up to units from other civilizations to ask for money, which is then passed onto your empire.

Unique Building: Cardboard Box. Replacement for Barracks. Allows for more units to be tightly packed into your city for defense.

Unique Ability: "What a glorious new smell I've discovered." No unhappiness caused from pollution.

I listed some potential First Nations civs earlier in the thread here. I didn't include any Arctic peoples, so Inuit and their neighbors are not listed. There are still a lot of potentials in other terrains, however.

Before delving heavily into the info about brave new world, and even before hearing about the "entirely separate hypercube" thing, I was thinking of how to implement a nomadic civilization. I play other 4x TB games, and went into great thought about a nomadic space civilization for Endless Space, along the lines of the Quarians from the Mass Effect series (only in the nomadic part, nothing else). But for this game, its harder. Perhaps moving the city with production, that is, spend all production to move the city one space. Other wise build buildings and units and such. Maybe place a civ-wide penalty on building effects to denote the impermanence of them; they would be tents and pavilions instead of proper buildings. I do agree that at a certain age they would probably have to settle into a permanent spot. But I think that is too much to add into the unique ability place.

What if the new civilization is actually treated as a playable force of barbarians or something?

Of course civilization is usually far, far too "PC" for anything like that, so I dunno.
