Beyond the Sword for Mac OS is Shipping!

So does this mean that if I buy BTS, I get all the civs and changes that Warlords has? I want to be complete, but not buy two expansions when only one expansion was needed.

Most. I don't believe you get the scenarios that come with Warlords. ???

Yes, all the civs from warlords are there, but there are certain aspects to the game in which Warlords overwrote vanilla, like in leader traits, and then BTS re-overwrote warlords. You will only have the BTS version of the leaders to choose from.

Surprise, surprise! I just checked my order with Amazon and they say it's shipped! Since I always get the free shipping, the delivery date is shown as July 31st. Based on previous experience, I expect it on the 30th.

Just arrived! :woohoo:

Interesting - just opened the package and there was only a disk, no manual or anything else at all.

Just called Aspyr - there is no printed manual. You can download one from the web site, but it's very hard to find (I could never have found it without being walked through the process). They said they would be making it easier soon.

Surprised to see Brad wasn't listed in the Aspyr credits in the manual.

Care to post the steps so we don't have to call Aspyr?

Brad said he didn't work on :bts: . He's working on Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition.

That's right. I also didn't do much on Warlords aside from getting the initial integration done and the first playable running before I handed it off to Andy. In fact, if you check the Warlords manual, you'll see him credited in a *ahem* "non-standard" way! ;-)

AlanH, I seem to have messed up trying to install the Blue Marble mod for BtS. I tried using the Mod Installer, reloaded a saved game and got in, but there is nothing on the screen but the map - no interface. Reinstalling BtS didn't fix it. Help!

You also sent this as a visitor message. Not a great idea to post twice :hmm:

Here's the response I gave to your message:
@gfeier: I have no idea how you used the Mod Installer to install Blue Marble in BtS. The Mod Installer knows nothing about BtS - I haven't even got a copy of BtS yet myself, as Amazon UK seem to be last in the queue for deliveries. So there's no way I can adapt the installer for it yet.

Basically, BlueMarble installation simply involves unzipping the download file, and copying the assets in the unzipped folder into the relevant CustomAssets folder. CustomAssets folders exist in ~/Documents/<application_folder> for Civilization IV and for Civilization Warlords. I assume you now have one for Civilization IV Beyond the Sword as well.

Sorry about the multiple postings. I did download the file, but I wasn't quite sure what to put where, so (without a great deal of thought) I said to myself "What about the Mod Installer?" Anyway, it seems I've hosed something based on the problem I'm having. Should I just reinstall vanilla Civ, patch it, then Warlords, patch it, then BtS or is there an easier fix?

The Mod Installer requires you to drag and drop a mod file onto an image of the application you want to mod. But there is no information built into it to look for and recognise BtS. As far as I know it is impossible for it to display BtS as an application option. So how did you use it to install BlueMarble into BtS? If I know how you did that, I may be able to guess what you have done to your Civ4 installation.

That link is behaving oddly. Nothing at all with Firefox, and with Safari you've got to right-click, save. If you click on it w/ Safari it opens the .pdf as a url. At least, this was my experience.

Working for me in Firefox. Just tested it.

Dunno about Firefox, but I would classify that as expected behavior for Safari since this is a PDF. Safari deals with PDFs by trying to display them.

The link Brad gave goes to an Aspyr support page with no problems. The page includes four links to PDFs in different languages. I clicked the English UK one, and it downloaded and displayed in Safari, again with no problems.

It worked in Firefox as well. Firefox downloaded the PDF and offered to open it in Preview.

Using Safari, if you left click the link, Safari displays the PDF. If you right click the displayed PDF you get an option to open it in Preview or save it.

Nothing unusual about any of this.

I should have clarified, the English (US) link on the Aspyr support page was the one with poor behavior. My 'no-script' on Firefox was clear. Oh well, I got it.

I dragged the BtS Blue Marble mod onto the Civ IV icon which popped up when I ran the Mod Installer and it went right to work (told you I wasn't thinking real clearly). Warlords and Vanilla Civ still work fine. I've reloaded BtS without fixing the issue. The blank Technology Adviser screen shows up first thing in BtS and exiting it takes me right to the game with the interface controls missing. I'm guessing I must have put something in the basic Civ IV installation that BtS is choking on.

So you ran the Mod Installer and installed the BtS version of Blue Marble into the CustomAssets folder in Civ4 vanilla? That should have had zero effect on BtS. The worst that could do is to bork your Civ4 installation, in which case you can revert simply by trashing the ~/Documents/Civilization IV/CustomAssets/ folder.

I have no idea how BtS installs, but if it follows the pattern of Warlords, I would guess the installer creates a new folder called Beyond the Sword in your Civlization IV application folder, and when you run BtS, it creates a folder in your ~/Documents/ folder with a name like Civilization IV Beyond the Sword. If you can't think of any other action you might have taken that you can reverse, I suggest moving these two BtS folders to the trash (or to the Desktop if you think you might want to revert) and reinstalling BtS from the DVD.

Hope this helps
