Beyond the Sword for Mac OS is Shipping!

So you ran the Mod Installer and installed the BtS version of Blue Marble into the CustomAssets folder in Civ4 vanilla? That should have had zero effect on BtS. The worst that could do is to bork your Civ4 installation, in which case you can revert simply by trashing the ~/Documents/Civilization IV/CustomAssets/ folder.

I have no idea how BtS installs, but if it follows the pattern of Warlords, I would guess the installer creates a new folder called Beyond the Sword in your Civlization IV application folder, and when you run BtS, it creates a folder in your ~/Documents/ folder with a name like Civilization IV Beyond the Sword. If you can't think of any other action you might have taken that you can reverse, I suggest moving these two BtS folders to the trash (or to the Desktop if you think you might want to revert) and reinstalling BtS from the DVD.

Hope this helps

Actually, it did, because it gave me the idea to delete the BtS prefs, which did the trick. I still have no idea what could have caused the Tech Advisor screen to pop up whenever I started. Anyway, thanks for the quick responses. Now to CAREFULLY install the Blue Marble Mod...

Aha! Broke it again! I managed to recreate the exact same problems I was having before by installing the latest Blue Marble version in the BtS Custom Assets folder. Looks like there may be a bit of an incompatibility here. Can anyone else confirm this?

Just out of curiosity, what are people paying for BTS at Amazon U.S. and in U.S. stores? I stopped by my local Apple dealer (not an Apple Inc. store) and ordered it yesterday. I was rather surprised when he said it would cost $34.95, since the pre-availability speculation around here had been $50.
:D

$34.99 at Amazon.

Whoops. That's what I paid, but I checked and it looks like they're currently out of their own stock and selling it from elsewhere at $43.28.

What link are you using to download your Blue Marble?

Update for other Canadians. One of the sellers on amazon in US does shipping to Canada and only charges $5.99 shipping (some others wanted $20+), so I purchased from them for $35.09. The seller is "lakeplacegames". Anyway, might be an option for other Canadians, since I still can't find it on any Canadian sites.

I am planning on getting two copies, so my Nephews can play, but I need to know how well this will work on the older intel-iMacs. Any issues so far? ty

Well, I can't imagine it being any slower than vanilla or worlords. :) I hope the additional development time also allowed for performance improvements. So long as you have lots of RAM (over 2 gigs at least) it should be okay.

um,no only one gig at 667 mhz. But Warlords on full settings runs fine.

It runs fine with a gig, until you've been running it for an hour then it starts swapping. I have 3 gigs, and if I play for a couple hours it eventually start badly swapping and I have to stop and restart.

Got mine. I may actually be able to play it on Tuesday - I'm on vacation right now, but my parents are coming to town so I won't have time.

Little Question about the speed of BTS for Mac,

Is it as fast as the Windows version or as slow as the Warlords for Mac?

I do have the Windows version, but always happy if I can left Bootcamp unused. But I think 300SEK/€28 is a lot of money for a 2-year old game, so I'm interested in the experience of others around here.

I'm interested to know this too. I probably won't get my copy for at least another week, so I can't provide feedback until then.

Thanks.

Seems faster than Warlords. I'll know more when I get further into a game. I always play huge/epic.

Okay, that would be great to know. I'd love to play huge, but I can't because it craps out in the late (or even middle) game.

$9.99 w/ free shipping.

Then again I had a $25 GC :-).

On a side note, will Aspyr 3.19 allow game play w/o the DVD similar to the PC version?
