[Beyond the Sword] History In The Making

Hi Grave,

I'm not from the UK, USA or Australia but I'm from Singapore and the version I'm using is enabled in english. However, there are other languages when starting up the programme, in spanish french and italian i presume. The options menu also offers the possibility of switching languages. Could this possibly be the continental european version?

As for when the CTD happens, it occurs right after i choose my civilization, past the Initialising and usually at Graphics or after Graphics phase. Is there any more information i can help with?

I was wondering what it means when I have a battle and I see something that says influence +8.2%. Can anyone tell me what this is refering to?

Mouse over the tiles. You will see that some culture has been transferred to the battle tile (and a small amount to surrounding tiles), in favor of the battle winner. It's a feature of Influence Driven War, which is part of HiTM.

I'd just like to say that the mod is working for me now. Tried another re-install of it, and suddenly everything looks just as it's supposed to. And, now that I've finally had the time to test the mod for real, I just have to say: Great work! :goodjob:

Hi there, firstly I am sorry if this has already been posted up before but I am sure you can appreciate 44 pages is a to to trawl through. The problem I am having is that the game freezes and eventually crashes out half way for initialisation at the "Setup Players", are there any fixes or suggestions for this?

I have currently got the HIM complete modpack, HIM additional, HIM patch and Gravemap, all of which are installed in my C Drive BTS Mods folder.

This all seems sensible to me the only fault thing I could notice is that I have the DLL for the Lt.Bob 40 Civs Mod, in the same Mod folder. Should I delete this and revert back to HIM? In which Case is HIM +18 civ compatible and will handle colonies well?

Dunno if this can be classed as a bug but its very weird....all alone on a continent after destroying the Dutch quite early on...spot a barb city, nice spot go to conquer it and look:-

Civ4ScreenShot0100.JPG

It has a religion!

Now there is no religion whatever on my continent, its NOT a Holy City or anything so I checked the Event log:-

Civ4ScreenShot0101.JPG

Christianity was founded in 2000BC (somewhere no idea where), I have absolutely no contact with any other Civ, so how the Frik did that Barb city get it? And since when do barb cities get religions? (Unless they conquer an existing civ's city)....

Very weird, any ideas anyone?

So do you insist that if I use UK version but live in Russia then this mod is not for me?

All I'm saying is that this mod was designed for English speaking players only. If you try and play it using an English version of BtS, but you have a Russian version of your XP/Vista, I'm not guaranteeing it'll work. That's all I'm saying.

Another quick question...I got the game working great except for 2 strange exceptions...none of which really bother me...1 is that George Bush is gone from selection of leaders and all of the vids/pics for the mods come up as a blue screen. Im assuming then that something must not have been patched right for that happen...which is funny because at another time it worked haha.

But hey, this is a great mod and is immensely fun to play!

If it worked once, but now it doesn't... then you must have done something to prevent it from working, so don't assume that it's something that must not have been patched right.

And what do you mean by vid/pics?

This will answer your question:

What kind of video card do you have?

Check the included Readme's that come with the game. Most feature related issues can be answered by actually reading the Readmes. :)

What did you do different this time to make it work?

I'm glad you got it working! Score +1 for non-English users! :goodjob:

Hmmm... I'm seeing a trend here. Move it from the C:\ drive folder over to your My Docuements/BtS/Mods folder.

DO NOT, under any circumstances use somebody elses DLL with my mod!!!!1111 That should be a no brainer. :crazyeye:

Sorry its not the DLL it is the Config file for the 40 Civs mod.

Config file? It's worthless in my mod. It won't do anything.

It's possible for Barbarians to capture a city that has a Religion in it, or it spread there. Did you open up WB and take a look at the Techs the Barbarians actually have? Maybe they have Theology. But if it's not a Holy City... I'm going to say it probably spread there.

Remember, just because you had no contact with anybody else, doesn't mean the Barbarians didn't. ;)

Nice mod, as far as I can tell. I actually subscribed to this thread months ago, then stopped playing civ for a while. I was happy the mod has reached a playable state, as vanilla civ/bts is kinda boring once you've seen a good mod (in my case it was amra's mod for warlords).

Anyway, I usually play Civ in hotseat mode teamed up with my gf, and we have two major problems with your mod rendering it unplayable for us.

First, the BUG mod options page cannot be closed. This happens both in single player and in multiplayer. I open the options page with ctrl-alt-o, i can move and resize it, i can switch tabs and do everything just fine. I just cannot close the damn thing, which means i have to kill civ via process explorer/taskmanager. I have not yet checked the BUG mod on its own, outside of your mod, so I can't say for certain if it's HIM or BUG that's causing the trouble.

Second, a pure multiplayer problem, I think. After our first turn each, the AI takes control of the first player's civ. It sometimes gives the control back when the goto command I usually give my warrior in the first turn ends. But after that first turn, I'm never certain who's turn it is now, and what is controlled by the AI and what not. Very strange.

Some additional info: Windows XP SP2, 1GB RAM, AMD X2 3600+, HIM 1.0+1.03+2 fixes, installed in documents...mods, packed (no compression) the arts folder, happens with the Civ4 Continents map script as well as with the Landmasses script. Any further info needed for this? Any help would be very much appreciated!

Cool... a lurker. :)

Yeah, LOTS has changed from the Warlords version. Unfortunately though, I never designed this mod to be played in multi-player (since I never play Civ in MP). Theoretically it should work, however, I do recall a multi-player related bug with the BUG Mod... I would suggest checking out their forums for an answer on that one. Knowing them, I'm sure they'll fix it ASAP, as they're good like that. :goodjob:

I recommend only playing HiTM in single-player only. It's what it was designed for. :)

Hi Grave, thanks for the quick reply but still no joy. I moved HIM from C drive to My Documents, as well as downloading patch 1.03 and installing, now I can not find the GraveEarth Map at Map selection screen, and the crash now happens during the Intialising Map "initialising" stage of the progress bar. I am redownloading the Modpack, and I will delete everything and go for a clean install of HIM as I think an element of the 40Civ mod might have got in there, HOPEFULLY that will work.

Hi, similar to Sepulchre, i face the same problems as him. Its the setup players section of the game that is causing the CTD. I will try redownloading again. seems to work for some people. My video card is that of an Nvidia GeForce 7600 256Mb

Well, it was worth a try. The GraveEarth map didn't dissapear unless you deleted it. Try looking again.

Does anybody even read Readmes or FAQ's anymore?
Or do I just waste my time documenting frequently asked questions?

Ok, you should be OK there, then. Sometimes people with obsolete video cards have a hard time running ShaderNifs.

Grave:- Re. my earlier "barb city with religion" it is some strange kind of bug, which has then caused unusual circumstances. I started spreading Christianity from that barb city, and eventually built the AP in London, the second I did, I suddenly had diplomatic contact with all the other nations that have a Christian City.

Yet I am still completely isolated by ocean, none of us have Optics yet, and I've absolutely no idea where they live still

Not exactly gamebreaking, but very strange circumstances.

These screenshots show me to be totally isolated, my active diplo relations with nations I haven't really yet met, and you'll just have to trust me that none of us have optics yet....;)

I didn't alter the Apostolic Palace in any way... maybe it was designed to give you access to all cities that share your State Religion? I never really experimented with the AP before.

Grave.

There is a way to choose "No Nuclear Weapons" and "No global warning" in the Custom Game selection? (Like "No barbarians", "Choose Religions")

I think AI use so many nuclear weapon. Use 1 nuke to shoot at 2 enemy units. I don't like Global Warning. AI use so much and i sufer all consequences. I hate this.

Not so much as choosing a "No Nuke" or "No Global" warming... but you can adjust these in the GlobalDefines.xml file.

Well, if the AI is nuking you... nuke them back. It's called M.A.D. my friend. :p

Turns out I didnt change the HIM files at all, as the Civ40 mod files are the level above HIM and therefore should not affect it, tried the clean installs and still no joy. The only thing I can think of left to do is to reinstall just the modpack, check if it works and then incrementally patch and add onto the Mod until I encounter a problem.

With the patches do I need download each patch or can you go straight from 1.00 to 1.03?

No, I am not that stupid. I was simply bringing to your attention that when I had HiM installed to C Drive with your map in the Public Maps folder it was visible for selection, the same prerequisites repeated but under the My Docs file path it was not.

You can go straight from v1.00 to v1.03... all patches are cumulative.

I always suggest keeping any HiTM maps into the HISTORY IN THE MAKING/PrivateMaps directory and access it from there. Since you never specified where you put the map, I only assumed you placed it per the instructions that come with my maps. You don't have to put them there (you can actually put them anywhere on your computer you want), it's just a suggestion.
