BirdNES 3: When Worlds Collide

To: Fernando II, King of all Spain, Child in the Arms of Christ
From: Sunni Ali, King of Songhai

Ah, the mighty King of Spain, it is an honor to hear from you! Like-wise, I have heard many tales of the bountiful kingdom of Spain. To tell the truth one of the tales retold countless times in my court was of the forced deportation of Muslims, which saddened my heart. However, when it was told was it was only an unconfirmed rumor, so I will give you the benefit of the doubt so that I can judge the character of Spain myself instead of based off of stories. I agree to your offer, so long as you keep your word, and limit yourself to a trade fort.

Anybody have any faction suggestions for Korea?

Well, Jungjong, the King, is a no brainer. He actually just came to power, overthrowing his rather purge-happy brother. He's fairly reform minded, but the conservatives that brought him to power don't really agree with his ideas.

The Uijeongbo (the "State Council" ) could be a potential important faction. They advised the king and conveyed royal decisions to the Six Ministries. Depending on the king, they could either be very influential, or practically powerless.

The Yangban were aristocratic officials that passed the examinations. They studied Confucian texts and all that good stuff, and had slaves and servants working their land so they could dedicate their time to scholarly pursuits. Also, there were two types of Yangban; the munban, the bureaucrats, and the muban, the martial ones. There could also only be 100 of them at a time, so competition at the exams was fierce.

Those are the only ones I can really think of. Wikipedia helped a little :p

We congratulate you on your victory over Sven Sture and the reunification of the Kalmar Union. For surely, the defeat of the Swedish secessionists was a worthy cause, such that the former Pope gave his life for it, and now that it has been completed, we wish Kalmar a bright and happy future.

@Ryukyu the Delhi Sultanate demands tribute. Or we will invade.
I am pretty sure that the Delhi Sultanate has no idea that Ryukyu exists except as hearsay nor where it is.

Thank you very much.

TO: Maximillian I, Holy Roman Emperor
FROM: Fernando II, King of all Spain

Your imperial majesty must concur that the blood in Hungary is spill over onto the white attire of all Christendom. While the Turks spread their heresy through the Balkans you continue to ravage one of our devote brothers. Your campaigns will leave an empty hole for the Sultan to fill in and expand his reach to the streets of Vienna. Must you proceed with the war? Has Corvinus not suffered enough?

Janos is a zealous Christian through and through. I cannot see a reason for the continued spilling of our brothers blood. From Barcelona I can only see one option worth carrying forward. A cease fire and the meeting of your highnesses in Roma in two years during the council period. In such a setting your parties may discuss peace under the supervision of his holiness Gregory, his majesty Carlos VIII and myself, Fernando II.

Accepting my offer will bring peace to the table and allow those under the banner of our Lord to halt the aggressions of the Sultan and all his kingdoms.

Peace be unto you.

TO: Il Papa, Gregory
FROM: Fernando II, King of all Spain

I see no better option than to call the king of Hungary and the emperor to Roma during the council for a conference to discuss the outcome of their own war. The Sultan looms over eastern Europe. Consider my request with all of Gods children resting in your hands.

TO: Fernando of Spain
FROM: His Holiness, Pope Gregorious, Thirteenth of that Name, Apostolic Successor to Saint Peter, Supreme Pontiff of Christ's Church, Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Christ

We write to you out of our bountiful love for you, in order to inform you of vicious rumors which have spread throughout Christendom, yea, even to our own ears, whereupon we knew instantly that they were false and slanderous, for Ferdinand of Spain has long been a pious and wise leader, resolute in his faithfulness to God and service to His Church, judicious in speaking, merciful in judgment, and prudent in action. It is for this reason that we are certain that these rumors are false, for they cast you as one who is ignorant of the affairs of the Church and of the world, and we know this to be false, for we know your heart as a father knows his own son.

Therefore, we write you and tell you of things of which we are certain you already know. First and foremost, that the unfortunate bloodshed between Maximilian and Janos Corvinus has long been the subject of our prayers, and that the warring parties, being each excellent men and Christians both, have already approached their Holy Father in private, seeking to resolve their differences like brothers. These proceedings will continue as they have continued. Secondly, as you already know, the ecumenical council of Rome to be held two years hence is a meeting of and for the Church, to address the spiritual issues facing the Body of Christ, particularly with an eye to the reformation of priestly training. It is a meeting of bishops from the east and west, as well as priests and monks, and even a few privileged scholars, such as yourself, will be in attendance. This is the purpose of the Council of Rome.

We know that these rumors and falsehoods will soon disappear, for all Christendom knows the wisdom and piety of Ferdinand. We are constantly in prayer for you, and ask that you pray for the success of the upcoming council. In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Fear not for these rumors are false, but you've misunderstood the requests at hand. Janos Corvinus has sent me letters requesting my search for peace through my own methods. The council in two years is indeed not appropriate for such talks but it will be perhaps the only time for such an arrangement to be made. As the parties involved will be readily available for conference on the matters at hand. It must not be confused with ignorance on the part of the Pope, for I make no such errors in my judgement. God guides me as he does you and the cries of assistance from brothers in faith must never go unanswered. Should your holiness fail to convince the Emperor against his actions it will be up to myself, by the will of God, to assist my brothers in Hungary. Islam must not gain ground due to infighting between such a family as the one under our Lord.

My brother, though I have great respect for your wisdom and desire for peace, I fear you are uninformed about the current diplomatic situation pertaining to Eastern Europe. For we too worry of the heathen Turks, and in our desire to rectify the current situation, we have come before the Pope, privately, so that some compromise may be worked out at his hands to end this strife between myself and Janos. We pray that you will have patience while negotiations are carried out under the watchful eye of His Holiness.

I and my knights are in full support of your desire for peace in Hungary and a turning of our lances against the Turk. Lead us wise king and we will do your bidding to settle this matter. Our arm is yours.

Refraining from violence is the only acceptable outcome to this war. The emperor is mad with power and threatens to crush all that Christendom has built for his own coffers sake. I am patient with these aggressors and will allow time for negotiations to take place. However, it is within my power to put an end to this war myself. The emperor is of now an enemy to peace and in the eyes of myself and Spain, an enemy of the Christians who inhabit his empire and the kingdom of Hungary. The Sultan pushes with unwavering strength against our brothers in the Balkans. Your knights are true brothers to the word of Christ. Your services may be required for the greater good of Europe. Should you desire to aid in ending this war through a decisive campaign of our own.

Ireland Claimed!! When are orders due, if you dont ming my asking??

Neither the Holy Roman Emperor nor the Most Christian King of Spain may surely be considered an enemy of true Christians any more than the other, for each has been chosen by the Grace of God and in accordance with his nation's laws, and each is a worthy, great and magnanimous ruler of many subjects. We therefore ask that these great sovereigns may behave as they are known to be, and we ask that you maintain calm during the peace proceedings, which are quite clearly alive and functional.

The Signoria thanks the noble and righteous King of Hungary for the release of Queen Beatrix, and while we have complete confidence that she has not been imprisoned or maltreated at all, it clearly does not behoove us to allow such an important and illustrious lady to remain unprotected in our city with her place unknown; it would be a most dreadful crime for us to, through negligence, allow her to be abused in our city, on our watch. Therefore we thank you.

Peace my be alive and ongoing in discussion but that won't stop the emperor from claiming a throne and upsetting the delicate balance against the Turk menace. As a protector of the faith I must warn that the removal of Janos Corvinus will result in absolute failure against the Sultan's armies. This is not to be allowed by myself or my most zealous subjects.

Ireland Claimed!! When are orders due, if you dont ming my asking??

If I get your orders by Monday midnight my time (MT USA), I will allocate additional weapons tech dispersion points to your nation. For some it will move you closer to the next weapons tech; for others it might put you over the line into the next tech. Everyone will get the same amount. The number of points I allocate will be equal to half the number of players that get their orders in. If 10 players get their orders in, then each gets 5 points. That is equivalent to several thousand in spending.

I will begin updating stats as orders come in and get the stats, outline and map well underway by the 10th.

Since, I will be out of town (wedding in San Diego) the 22nd to the 26th It would be nice to get the update finished before I go.
