Blue Marble Terrain

does it slow down the game

You know, my system can run high-res, and just out of curiosity I uninstalled and installed low-res and I didn't really see much difference. But I went back to high-res anyway.

Also, kristopherb, you need to start using correct capitalization and punctuation. You are known for not doing that. THIS IS NOT A CHAT ROOM! YOU HAVE TIME TO PRESS SHIFT!

I'm using the low-res installation and it didn't appear much worse than normal. lag towards the endgame is expected.

These work great with the Tectonics mapscript by LDCesare btw.

Hello! I searched this forum regarding this, and had no luck. I am using the low res version of Blue Marble, and have the 1.61 patch for vanilla Civ. The fish are visible and they jump out of the water, and I can see all other things and animations on the terrain except the PIGS, HORSES, SHEEP, and COWS. They just look like tiny black ovals. I can't see the DEER at all, even as black ovals. What do you suppose I could do to fix this, aside from uninstalling Blue Marble?

Please try uninstalling BM first, does it help? Probably not - because the low res version of BM uses even less graphics memory than the Firaxis original.

Your graphics hardware probably is just weak. In such a case I would suggest to open the regular Civ4 options menu, trying to reduce all graphics options available. Finally you could use the option "MemSaver = 1" in CivilizationIV.ini, freeing up some memory, but sacrificing ALT-TAB functionality.

I had done that before, but the animals were visible before the Blue Marble installation, after Blue Marble was uninstalled, and still invisible with the low res version. I do have a computer that, while less than six months old, wasn't built for high intensity graphics. If I don't hear back from you, I'll just uninstall Blue Marble. Thanks for your time. :)

Sorry, if you tried all options, then I am afraid I can't help anymore. BM does not touch the animals at all and only modifies terrain textures. So if you get problems with the animals there may be a problem with your video ram or graphics driver. Please make sure you have the latest graphics driver installed, especially if you are using a computer without dedicated graphics card: computers with onboard graphics (mosty from Intel) are more delicate to use for demanding 3D games. The latest Intel drivers for onboard graphics can be found here: http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/

Obviously there hasn't been any problems downloading - 25 pages! - but no matter how many times I download it, when windows runs the unzipper it comes up with a message "Error reading the File". Has it changed recently or should I use some unzipper untility rather than the default windows one?

Can anyone help with this?

Thanks

I have the the high res version of Blue Marble Terrain installed. Then I checked the box inside of the game for high detail terrain. It slowed the game down to a snail's pace and the terrrain was no better. So, I unchecked the high terrain detail box and the game runs fine. If anyone has Blue Marble installed then I think you should leave the high terrain detail box unchecked.

Sorry, no. I think Civ4's "high detail terrain" option affects the number of surface polygons the game applies to the terrain, but not the terrain textures itself. So it should not matter which terrain graphics you use, as long as your graphics card can handle the number of polygons.

Even my old pc (but with a fair ATI 9800) never had any problems with high detail (no matter which graphic textures are used). But I think many computers with onboard graphics indeed it could be better not to use "high detail" - no matter which terrain textures are used - because onboard graphics usually have less polygon calculation power. Most people won't notice a big difference from this option anyway.

I could not notice any difference. Plus, I could not load huge maps with it checked. My graphics card is a ATI Radeon 9800 XT AGP with 256 MB ram. I wonder if I need to update that card??

Hi, I am new to these forum so please bare with me!

Anyway, I was able to get Blue Marble to work with Civ4 but I'm having problems (or at least I think I'm having problems) with installing it for Warlords. When I open Warlords it does not say "Blue Marble Edition" like it does when I run Civ4 but yet the graphics do seem different. Should I be able to see "Blue Marble" somewhere once I've started Warlords or is it possible that Blue Marble is in fact running despite the fact that I don't see the logo?

Any clarifications would be appreciated! Thanks!

I tried installing the mod, but now it won't even let me play.
It gets to the Init XML(uncached) then an error pops up.
Failed to Initialize Renderer-Check DirectX Version and Graphics Settings.

i get the same problem, do you have a widescreen laptop? i'm running a dell inspiron 9300 with a 17" widescreen (1440x900 resolution) geforce 6800 go 256mb VRAM, 1gb main RAM, Intel Centrino Mobile 1.86mhz...

Ok, I just got this game and have downloaded the Blue Marble mod, but I don't seem to be getting anything from it. I do I know if it is working? I have looked for the Blue Marble logo, but haven't seen anythiong.
Thanks

Yes I did install at High res. I was just wondering why I don't see the Blue Marble logo.
Thanks for your help.
