Blut Und Ehre II

UPDATE XXXVIII
1510 AD

New Phoenicia
The culture of mamluke islam begins to expand though the thick jungle of the amazons. Some of the natives have begun to convert to Islam, and the mamlukes are teached the medicinal porperties of some plants, this helps them live in a land where malaria and other diseases are everywhere. Back home the Mamluke private shiping building undergoes a boom, 9 squadrons are built and given to the state as a present, the owners of the ship building companies have gained many riches from the colonist trade; it is hoped by them that these squadrons will be used to protect the newborn colonies.

New Attica & The Aztec Empire
The Greeks are one of the most advanced exploring nations in europe, they have spent much of their money in explorers and colonists.in 1506 a new explorer party arrived further west of "new crete", they found pretty much the same it seemed, but the natives were somewhat more advanced. after a week a large number of natives wearing elaborated dresses of jaguar skins, exotic bird feathers and gold ornaments arrived. They were not of that specific part of mesoamerica, but more to the north, they called themselfs the Aztecs. the explorers were invited to come north. after a while they arrived in Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capital. The greeks could not believe their eyes!, this city of "backwards" natives rivaled that of Rome, Athens, London, Madrid!. The explorers also witnessed the advanced trading and astronomic practices of the Aztecs.
After a month stay they were asked by Montezuma to leave, they were given much gold, furs, precious stones and much silver. the Aztecs asked for the greeks to go back and never come back.
Ofcourse so much gold might give the greeks other ideas.....

Spainish Exploration Results & more Aztec Storys..
Being first hand witneses of the riches brought by the mamlukes, the spanish would not stay behind for long. 3 exploration partys had at last arrived in the Americas, "the pinta" and "the carlos" partys lost contact and landed deep in south america, the most southern land discovered so far. But "the Santa maria" explorers arrived in a land past the new attican islands.
Upon return to spain they brought great storys of them meeting a very impresive and advanced civilization, the Aztecs. when the spanish were invited to the capital they also saw some of the greek explorers but exchanged no words.
just like the greeks the smaller spanish party left w/ as much treasure as they could carry......once again told the same words to leave and never come back.

Spanish-Greek Relations take a bad turn
The Greeks apparently forgot to pay their dues to the king of spain for the ROP signed a few years ago. The 2 PPs are not much money compared to what is being brougth from the new world; however some analysts see it for its possible symbolic meaning, that the greeks would bow to noone when it came to who was who in the mediterrenean and the new world. This might have bad turns and if the king of spain gets his way the greek golden age of exploration might be shut down by simply closing the doors of Gibraltar.

Byzantium populance hopes for glory
The native population of Byzantium have beenwitneses of the greek riches for too long, they demand their govt to do the same!, to out do everyone!. Altough they are happy w/ the expansion eastward they find the storys of sea exploration one of romanticism and adventure. One of the local Princes in the north of Byzantium has built a large amount of ships to perhaps woe to sultan into considering naval exploration.

WAR IN EUROPE
The Troops of Brandenburg poured through the polish border after a polite declaration of war. they quickly overan the defenders and build up fortifications. later the polish sent their armys from the south in a desperate attempt to regain their terrotory as expected....but failed. Brandenbug forces are not moving, many experts claim it to be just a "limited" war.

England begins to catch up
The british explorers have sailed for first time, being perhaps the last of the nations w/ much naval traditions. soon her Majestys fleet will arrive, hopefuly w/ good news.

Bavarian Explorers Arrive in north america
Bavarian adventurers at first arrived in an island, just to realise it was alrady greek territory, they then sailed north, finding an area full of alligators and wetlands. after some search a nice place was found that could support a large population in the future.

Ottoman Expansion
The ottomans continue to expand in land once held as egyptian centuries ago, as they move on south and their explorers looked for traces of water in which to build future wells, they heard news of a people calling themselfs the ethiopians furhter south.

TRYING TO UPDATE DAILY AGAIN, SO DONT FORGET TO DO ORDERS.

By Glory of God! The explorers had returned! The Santa Marie party had brought tales of the Great Aztec "Empire". It was said, that the capital city there rivaled even the great European capitals! However, the explorers there had informed the King that the Aztecs possesed no guns or iron weapons like the Europeans. The King had then decided to send a vast army and fleet across the seas, and CONQUER the Aztec Empire in the name of God due to their belief in "human sacrifice", which is against Christianity!

The Greek explorers which were seen in Tenochtitlan, had not yet responded to the King's demand for the 2 PPs, while most of his advisors informed him that it was nothing compared to the wealth the Americas bought in to the Empire, however, the King told all of them that they must be known to have a backbone and not withdraw just because a powerful nation told them so.

The Mamulukes had colonized a portion of South America and beautiful women, called Amazons had came to the Mameluke Empire. The King had recently met the aquaitance of one, and decided that the Amazons may inhabit more then just the Mamuluke Colony. He had later decided to send colonists to spread Christianty to the natives there, and colonize the land in the name of Spain.

Journal of a soldier in the Aztec Empire:

Day 1: Our journey has finally ended, we have reached land, however, the Pinta and Carlos have been lost. When we reached shore, we were greeted by primitive natives wearing animal skins and decorated faces. They led us to a inn of some sort and bided us to spend the night there.

Day 2: Our breakfast contained of black colored food and drink that was quite delicious, as sweet as sugar, perhaps even more sweet. They were called cocoa by the natives, I have decided to call them chocolate. Where ever we go, we are followed by curious natives and ppl, who make signs as if we were their gods.

Day 3: We entered their capital, from afar it looks like a huge dirt hill. But when we entered, we saw a HUGE difference. The natives there had gold necklaces, hats, and even gold buildings! Their "temples" are decorated with rare metals, and beautiful animals, while we were looking around, we saw another group of Europeans, Greeks if i am not incorrect, however, our company commander ordered us not to talk to them. We later met their King, Montezuma. To say that he was nice is not possible, he greeted us like gods, then ordered 100 captives sacrificed! Debowled, scalp cut off, then finally having their hearts taken out of them alive...Gruesome r these savages, as beautiful as their capital is, which rivaled even London, Athens, Rome, even beautiful Madrid in which i have seen... Except the fact about the human sacrifices...we were later told by Emperor Montezuma to leave. Our commander, Cortez, locked eyes with Montezuma and said. "One day, Montezuma, the Great Aztec Empire will be no more, and a Spanish Flag will fly from Tenochtitlan, and ur ppl and religon will just be another minority in the Great Spanish Empire!"

Day 4: We were accompanied by the Aztecs back to our ships with gold, skins, and some of the great tasting chocolate which will soon be the latest fad in Spain...

Day 5: We arrived back in Spain, to be greeted by the Great King Ferdinand himself. We were informed that the Pinta and Carlos had been sucessful, I personally handed the chocolate to the King, he was VERY pleased by it, I was granted governership of the colony that is to be built in the north of the Aztec Empire... I can't wait to return to the Americas and get more cocoa...

Sultun Ahmed looked over the reports coming in from the colonists. The lands in Sheba had been colonized completly. The people created the prot of Aden and soon set up a fishing village. The lands were not as rich as expected, but would provide excelent shipping between the red sea ports. Aden would soon grow to a city. In the lands of former Egypt, the cooonists were tring to find any good land to settle. They were able to find some and had already began to create villages. The settlers had also heard rumors of an empire to the south. They called themselves Eithiopians. It is unsure how the sultun will react when they are found, but he has ordered excpeditions out to find these Eithiopians, befriend them and hopefully convert them to Islam. The Eithiopians may prove good trading partners and maybe even military allies. The Otooman Empire's navy was lagging far behind the rest of Europe. If war would erupt, the empire would be left completly vunerable to the sea! The Sultun ordered an immediate buildup of the navy to help stregthen the empire's defenses.

The Sultun meanwhile would go on a tour of the EMpire, the first sultun to ever do so while not on military conquest. His first stoip would be Medina. The beautiful city was the second hoiset place in all of Islam. The Sultun joined with the commoners and prayed to Allah during the noon prayer. He soon left the mosque to travel to the magistrate. Her the Ottoman Empire controled it's provinces from here. The local governor was honored by the Sultun's sudden arrival. He soon asked him for some tea. The Sultun refusesed, and instead asked the Governor what he thought the Sultun should do for the Empire. The governor was shocked at this request, sultun's never trusted a governor with such important decisions. The Governor polited told the Sultun that the people needed more faith into their Empire, and the only way to do that was growth. The Sultun was once again assured that the expansion's into Arabia and Egypt were rightious ones. The Sultun quickly left and headed down to aden to see his new port.

ORDERS:

We wish to purchase that northeasterly province which borders 5 of our provinces as it is somewhat of a risk. Would you accept 6pp for it?

To Bavaria
From England

Teh growing number of ships in the North sea is worrying to me and whilst we would never go as far as to declare the sea our territory over the years we have guarded it fiercly due to the implications of a stronger force in the area. Therefore i say this to you I propose a maximum of 15 squadrons per nation in the north sea.

To the World
I will allow passage through the English channel in return for 1 pp per voyage

To All Med nations
From Spain
After this ROP, we will be giving free 6 turn ROPs through Gibraltar, AFTER, this ROP.

France:
To Spain:
Great!, thanks for your understanding!. we are also re-joining the Holy Roman Empire.

France:
to England:
it will no longer matter what kind of ROP treaty you want to stablish, france now has a secured pass in the south.

To Brandenburg, France and other nations wishing to use the english channel
From England

If you feel thi is robbery on the high seas then i say to you what would you find an acceptable deal? You will find us most competetive if needs be.

Brandenburg:
to England:

Perhaps you should offer something more understanding than a PP per ship.
if we actually cared about the new world, we would ask something like 5 PPs for a 5 Turn ROP

To Brandenburg
From England

It would seem you misunderstood us. I belive that if i were to charge such a cost then i would be tempting fate. no i actualy meant that for every naval voyage (which would happen 1 per turn unless the organisation was topsy turvy ;) ) thus 5pp for a 5turn ROP is exactly what we were offering.

From Brandenburg:
to England:
Oh, so it was just a misunderstanding!, good, our relations remain as good as before this incident.

OOC: many orders are not present, so all update tommorow morning to give more time for people.

Story:

I stood on the crude docks that the colonists had built. It was rickety, and I thought as I walked across to the shore that it would crumble beneath my weight. However, it held and I put my feet on the New World for which I had heard so much about. It was interesting, to say the least. The colony itself was built in a small area of cleared jungle – I believe that’s what the other scholars had named this type of forest – and surrounded by a crude wooden barricade. Livestock were out, being fed hay rather than grass, for grazing would quickly reduce the soil into uselessness.

I entered the colony not ten minutes later and observed the work being done by the colonists. Small gardens were plotted down all over the place, seemingly at random. Strange plants grew in these gardens, which I took the time to sketch and observe before continuing my tour. The Mosque appeared to be built in the center of town, as considering the religiousness of most Mamlukes, I wasn’t surprised to see it as the most well-kept building besides the nearby governing building.

I spent the night in a tent of my own construction, but hardly slept. I sketched the grasses, the trees beyond the colony’s barricade, and even the buildings of the colony itself by firelight. The New World is truly a place of wonder, for everything I saw was so new and different. It is unfortunate that I will probably never live to see even half of them, but just witnessing these once makes this journey all worth it.

The next day I awoke as the sun rose. Sleep had come to me a mere four or five hours earlier, and so I rose with many protests from the rest of my body. However, this day would be filled with more wonders, and I am not one to rest when I needn’t do so. I ate a small breakfast of strange fruit, animal’s meat [I dared not to ask WHAT animal], and milk flavored with a sweet substance called “pure sugar”. I left early for the native villages of the Amazons, whom I had heard described as fierce warrior women who wore only scraps of clothing and ate raw meat.

What I saw when I entered the Amazon camp nearest the New Phoenician colony, however, was a society that was well-organized, albeit primitive. They lived like barbarians, but they were certainly not mere savages, for they were divided into clear classes of society. I sketched some examples of this from afar, and have an up close and personal visit with a particularly pretty example. She was not so much fierce as she was independent, and for some reason I found that to be an incredibly attractive trait in this primitive.

Two days later, I visited her again. I began to teach her my language. I had not intended to stay at the colony, but now it seems that I shall become a permanent resident as I attempt to educate this Amazonian…

The Church and the New World

The Greek colonies were prospering. More and more Greeks decided to leave their homes behind and sail towards the new world. Especially the poor and the adventurous were attracted by the tales of gold and silver – glory and richness. The Queen had encouraged colonist to sail towards the new world by chartering ships and supporting the colonists with a small sum of money. However the Queen wasn’t the only one who saw a great opportunity in the lands behind the ocean.

The natives who the explorers had met believed in pagan gods. And the Orthodox Church was worried about this. The teachings of Jesus had not yet been heard by the Taino and Aztecs. The Patriarch in Athena called for a mission of the new world, before the schismatic Catholics or the infidel Arabs would have set a stronghold. Waves of missioners sailed together with adventurers and colonists towards the west.

Soon in New Attica and New Crete (and in Africa, too) the first churches were built. Although the buildings were smaller then the magnificent buildings in Athena or Corinth, they often were the centre of a colony, since they were often built, before the first colonists arrived.

However the Indians proved to be hard to convert. Although they were impressed by the white walls of the churches and the strange habits of the Christians they still trusted in their old gods. Although both the Queen and the Patriarch were worried about the success they decided that over the time the infidels would realise who the true god is. Therefore the preachers continued to spread to word of god and the missionaries travelled deep into the unexplored lands of South and Central America.
