Rag is just west of Corinth. Not sure if anyone knew that or not, but I sent the spear out there a bit. there are pigs, so a city is feasible over there other than the fact that Rag is right there.
Worker from Sparta moved directly to road to Mansa and then helped create road for new pig/fish city. I held off settling that city until the road was complete.
Tons of barbs coming from the south. I was never able to move the phalanx and Spear further out as I got hit with barbs from turn 1. Those two did a good job defending though. last turn the Phalanx killed a barb stack of an Archer and 2 warriors where it stands now at only about 4 strength. I took the gamble that the fortifying the Phal would work out. The spear killed 2 archer in defense. You can see another archer just popped up the turn after the spear killed 1 and got a promo. Woody II seems logical and fortify him, although barbs are now bypassing units and heading for cities.
OB with Mansa and Rag and we have Mali trade routes.
WB is out and scouting. I did not create one in sparta yet. We really need Lib there more and a WB will be slow. We can chop it out later.
I just chopped a forest in Corinth this turn and queued the Library. WB for new city and Gran still queued though. I let the team decide how they want to use the chop.
Pigs being used by Sparta at the moment for another worker, but I had been switching back and forth between Corinth as needed.
Library complete in Athens. I just slow built it as there was some nice OF from the chopped settler. I queued up a Phal in Athens, but it may be a good time to cut copper and build a warrior for defense their. I did not get out another Phal though and it would be nice to have at least one more with all the barbs coming from the south.
I moved 1 worker to the gh NW of Athens to mine it first since I felt it better since both cities can share that mine.
Mansa just got Alpha. I'd pretty much ran binary on Aesths the whole time.
Looks like Rag has definitely met someone. I don't think Mansa has yet and Mansa may be hurting for land.

oh...we might as well move the warrior next to Argos back into Athens so we can grow into a Scientist in 2 turns. We can whip a phalanx in Corinth and then cut copper. No need to build one in Athens.

Mansa's still at 5 cities so he's boxed in. I think we should try to settle into the jungle once the barbs calm down so that we're not feeding Ragnar a crap-ton of land. Given the EP distribution, I suspect it's just the three of us on this continent.
The jungle hill 2N of pigs would provide a decent defensive position while expanding our borders.

Agree with you here shyuhe. But where to build the settler? I'd suggest after athenes grew and finished the granary. That city shouldn't be terribly hard to defend as its proximity to rags and our existing empire provides a lot of fogbusting. Plus it's coastal and keeps us the opportunity to expand further west, depending on rag's settling and the land we find.
I'd rather have sparta build another phalanx or two before the exploring WB.
True, there are un-jungled tiles to work but when we expand further we'll eventually need jungle clearing and I don't think we'd get it in time when we tech aest and hope for AIs teching alphabet (and trading with us). Also, IW won't be done in a minute either and knowing iron location sooner isn't bad.

techwise: aesthetics doesn't bring much beside its trading value (no marble). I hope Mansa doesn't get it before us (will Ragnar trade at cautious anyway?). PH line opens monarchy and COL... (and later philo bulb).

It seems safer to have at least one more axe (actually an axe). For the spear, I would promote to woody2 and fortify one turn. I think the odds will be in our favor.
Growing size 6 before starting the settler seems a bit risky though I have not done any math on it. Problem is that we aren't gonna whip Athen if we want a GS out. I would rather whip a worker for two or a unit to overflow and complete the lib in Sparta. Then grow on scientists. Athen has more forests to chop into the settler also.

wb: I would rather try to bypass Rag with it to be sure we don't miss someone.

I think we'll want another phalanx before gifting away copper, just to be on the safe side. We can't attack barbs offensively in the jungle so we'll need a garrison unit and a patrolling unit to make sure nothing sneaks by towards Athens.
Where are we going to plant our next city? That somewhat impacts our time table for a settler.

Yeah, the jungle makes it tricky, especially since barbs are more likely now to just walk by fortified units. I had to move the Phalanx such that I lured a barb archer onto the corn tile south of Sparta, so that I could attack him. He then had to fight off a barb stack of archer/2warriors. I expect more of that to come from the south.
I think we can get another WB out from Corinth in time for Argos. Argos still has pigs and the grow on fish.
I'm not sure on teching. Aesths would probably set up trades. We might even consider heading to Monarchy and gifting/trading to Rag to get him in HR. We do somehow need to get IW in the foreseeable future.

@shyuhe; the site you suggested looks like a decent place we can settle before IW, or we could try to get the northern corn, though that's more risky as it's more isolated from our core.
@lymond: med -> PH then either monarchy or COL has my preference actually. Then we can get alpha and IW from trading (get alpha from mansa and IW from ragnar if he is willing to trade. I would try to give him a good trade so together with HR bonus we reach pleased status). What are Mansa preferences? it would help to choose as we can't afford to double research the next tech.

Well the jungle site I proposed is on a hill, so if we stuff it full of archers, it should hold pretty easily even if (and when) Ragnar declares on us. And we should assume that Ragnar will declare war on us at some point in the near-ish future.
What did Mansa take with Oracle? Alpha?

Ok. I'm thinking I'll go with Ras' suggestion and head down Myst-Medi-PH. Sparta for the first GS, and it'll also build another worker. Athens will do the next settler. Corinth will complete its library, then build a WB for Argos.
Hopefully I can break out with our units a bit and see what kind of land we have in the south.
