:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
That won't be a problem for me... it would be great to get a deity game somewhere in the middle of the past 2 extremes. I had 2 cities and 10 holkans + some warriors when Monty Dow'd and invaded my capitol with a stack of 8-9 axes...I was so pissed that I didn't even even save to retire.

On the Immortal(adventurer) save on a replay, I have been able to Rex out 6 cities and still not gotten attacked. Lack of metals close enough to really grab with even the second city seems a bit too much to ask for on a Deity level game.

Next month seems a long way off....guess I get to concentrate on the SGOTM!

Okay, first of all, Niklas; you get on my christmas card list if you intentionally forgot Archery from barbs. Not if it was unintentional though! And only because I noticed in time that backyard barb city (full of Warriors) Bull was pummeling with his Dog Soldier...

So. Happily forgot about Holkans and busted my ass getting the Copper with my third city (very early third though due to the insane capital). Was okay though since because of the above barbs only sent around 23 Warriors and nothing worse for a while. Good, too, that I didn't rely on Holkans since they started sending Axes directly after.

Blocked peninsula easily, Monte DoWed HC first (though I was ready to take it) and then me at around 500BC. And again at 500AD, after which he DoWed Bull who vassalised him. I suspect this is pretty average. Anyhow after Currency and Monarchy the empire output was growing very fast. At 1000AD something like 640bpt-50gpt.

Headed towards Lib, which I lost to overseas at 700AD by 3 turns or so. After I made contact I noticed the other continent was a huge grouphug with no wars and an INSANE tech pace. Realized I had no chance to win just with my land so planned on Inf/Arty rushbuy to take the continent. Too bad Kremlin was gone before I even got Chemistry.

Long story short(er), busted my ass to get the Internet (Bella scared me by getting to Computers 4 turns before me), then shut off tech for good. Was kicking Sitting's Butt while nervously seeing Joao with almost a full spaceship. Then I finally realized why Bella's teching's been off for a while and noticed Bella's cities were 4, 16, 24 turns from legendary... Again, tunnel vision to get a ton of MechInf/MArty/Jet/Bomber/Gunship/MA across - amassed about 60 units + 20 aircraft on the English/Spanish border with 8 turns to spare. DoWed, razed a legendary city... After which his new third was 16 turns from legendary  Went to raze that, next one, 30 turns... So had to head to Madrid to stop her culture script once and for all.

Now, two things happened. Joao, who was 1 part short of his ship, made a DP with Bull. And HC went weehorn. At this point all have all military techs except Bull who is MAs and Stealths short. So HC DoWed me like two turns after Joao launched his ship. I could have taken Joao alone for sure, Joao&HC probably, Joao&Bull very probably, but not all damn three at once. My Lisbon-razer army diddled into position, awaiting orders. Meanwhile HC invades my homeland with a stack of around 50 "Moderns" and "Mobiles". Bella will be bribable against me by any of the three in a couple of turns, very probably bringing the whole world against me. So I declare on Joao (+ Bull due to DP), raze Lisbon destroying his spaceship (2t from Alpha Centauri) and
retire, in 1814AD.
Did no teching after the Computers beeline, ended the game with every tech in the tree except Genetics. Full rushbuy for the last 50 turns, razed two enemy capitals within turns of their supposed win. I declare myself the moral winner.

Despite the funky neighbor I think this map is in the easier half (because of the very easy expansion to ~9 good cities), at least if you luck out a war or two overseas - could probably go to space peacefully in that case. That grouphug was something to behold, everyone getting a new Renaissance/Industrial tech every 1-2 turns. Anyhow, this game was a nice reminder why I stopped playing regular Deity/Normal  Winnable even with my playstyle, but not worth the damn frustration... :p

I think this map has quite a big variance though, with the wildcard Monte and wildcard overseas. Liked the "reverse colonization" setup though

Hinduism and Buddhism were founded overseas, but I quickly caught Judaism from Huayna (cool renaming BTW).

I decided to rush my other neighbour who was heathen. He was a soft prize - by T50 he had 3 cities defended only by warriors, a wandering settler, and a pile of gold (from failing the Oracle?), so I declared with a stack of a few axemen, spearmen, and swords.

It took a few turns as he whipped a few archers and spearmen by the second city, but by 925BC I had wiped him out and things were looking strong.

Oh, wait, that was Monty. Killing me.

Rough game there Silu - at least you played the beginning a lot smarter than me to withstand the (expected) Monty attack. I was better than you, though, as I didn't retire - I hung on until the turn of my defeat!

Haha :D I debated whether to just let Joao's spaceship land and take the loss, but razing Lisbon felt too damn good to pass that up. Getting GOTM brownie points has nothing on that :)

A deity game with barbs on and no huts, sounds fun :goodjob:

Since it's hard already, downloaded challenger, don't need no stinking cows. Exlpored south and east, found Sitting Bull with his protectionist archers. Jungle offered no immediate advantages, first city went north where the gold was. Teched Agriculture, Bronze, and Hunting for early holkins.

Then my worst nightmare showed up, Monty in the jungle on a hill :sad::sad:
Well, at least I knew my fate before 3000BC came and went, extermination.
I had no buffer city between M-man and my capitol. He founded buddism on that hilltop city, to make it even harder to rush.

I thew down a bunch more cities to block off SB and monty while I set up my empire. I also took care to build a bunch of military to keep SB in line and to prepare for Montys assault. Then divine intervention showed up, the INCA who followed Hinduism!

As my economy flatlined and I watched helplessly as Montys power rating skyrocketed, my game was a question of Monty attacking me or the Incans first. My heart stopped when I heard the horns of war, and the verdict was....
Monty vs. Capac woot
That religous war dragged on the entire game.
:D:D:D:D

Once I got going, I made giant armies and chipped a city from Monty every go, first to get a buffer city, then to kill him off. My grand army made it all the way to his capitol following Huanya Capac's trebuchets, but was then obliterated.

I used +3 shared war and Hereditary Rule to keep HC happy. Sitting Bull was my main trading partner. I was so far behind, bulbing was my only salvation this game. When I found the other continent, they were light years ahead, and all at peace with each other.
Isabella was building every wonder in the game and cruising to a culture victory.

Since the Dom limit was 64%, even taking my whole continent wouldn't be enough. Religious was out of the question. Conquest no way. My one chance was diplomatic victory. I took a great deal of time making trebuchets, upgraded them to artillery, and took a great deal of SBs cities with infantry. His fleet of destroyers mauled me and kept his power rating far too high for him to capitulate. I ended the war as the game was nearing an end. His land and cities were enough to get me the UN secretary general.

I had no techs to trade, but huge chunks of gold got Jao and Lizzy nice and buttered up with +4 trade relations. Had to bribe Jao a bunch more gold to get him back into hereditary rule after he dropped it, and I won the game in 1695AD-Diplo. HC had some of his spaceship built and Isabelle was 9 turns from Culture Victory, so it was in the nick of time too.

I will pat anyone on the back who manages to win this one in some other way than diplomacy.

I tried for religious victory. Couldn't get the Oracle (gone about 2300BC) so had to try for GPro, but Christianity was discovered IAFAL. I probably wouldn't have been able to get the Apo Palace. But my continent was all hindu so I figure a UN victory might be workable.

But...

Even though Inca is the Aztecs worst enemy... The Aztecs declare war on me. I knew they would, they almost always do. I can hold the jags/axes/chariots off with axes. But when the cats come, its over.

Conquest defeat 50BC. I had 4 cities when the war started, and the war prevented me from any further expansion, so even if I win the war I lose the game.

I didn't think I'd win this game. But if Monte wars with Inca instead of me (like I notice he did in some games) I'd have had a much better run (before eventually losing). So to look at te bright side... think of all the time I saved! :D

time played: 00:35:00

1) 2nd city razed by war vs. war

2) managed to build two good cities and stonehenge. captured visigoth barb city.

3) destroyed by aztec SoD composed of axes, chariots and w¨swordsmen

Ohhh... so you saved even more time for the real world than I did.,. Congratulations!:goodjob:

I got ganked by monte, sigh.

Haha, not even the GotM gods are evil enough to have another high level game next month, I finally have a chance of victory!

Er, please?

Well, I took the Adventurer save, as I have never won an Immortal or real Deity game. So it doesn't really compare to the Deity games above.

I fell for the Oracle trap.... but got lots of cash. After the map was revealed I realised that no-one could get the Oracle. HC with marble in his BFC!! If anyone did get it, tell me how.

Used all of my pre-chopped forest to try get the Pyramids, but failed again, 2 turns short. Lots more cash.....

Went for HR as soon as possible, for my own survival. I figured a big stack of crappy units in my Cap might deter Monty, and it also meant I could work lots of cottages.

Stopped expanding with 7 cities, and just tried to hold on.

Monty eventually stormed over the border with a mountain of Cats, Elephants & Longbows. I had Axes, Holkans, Swords and Archers. But I had LOTS.
Emptied nearly all the other cities to send every unit to the Cap, turned off teching so I could afford to upgrade 2-3 units per turn. At one stage I was down to 3 units, all badly injured, but it was enough, just!

Monty was everyones worst enemy by the end. When I finally met the other 3, they were all huge. Izzy's score was 50% better than Joa, who was second.

Was ultra careful about trading, thankfully they all agreed early who their worst enemy was, except for Izzy, who chose me

In the end, I gifted SB about 5 techs to get him to Medicine, so that he could approve of my civics.

I had a -4 modifier for trading with Liz's worst enemy the turn I met her, even though she did not have a worst enemy, and I had not traded with Izzy or Jao?!?!?!
But it didn't matter, she still voted for me at +8. :woohoo:

Spaceship loss to Portugal in 1828.
Lots of wars in my game, but I managed to stay out of them all. I traded for Constitution in 1090 or thereabout and fumbled enter-clicking, throwing me into Rep, which I REALLY didn't want :(

I believe I could have won the game on a dilpo victory b/c a few turns before I got the first victory vote in the UN, Joao went past Ysabel in pop. Don't know if he'd voted for me, but it would have been real close (he was friendly with both me and Izzy, but I has +2 or +3 more than her).

Similar to kcd_swede, I also attempted a Religious victory, and also saw the Oracle built IADL in 2300BC (on the same turn as I completed Priesthood).

The Barbs definitely had Archers in my game (several of them!!!)

Despite the supposedly aggressive neighbours, I had no problem at all with Wars. Everyone on the starting continent was Hindu (as was I), they were all pleased with me and none of them backstabbed me.

I tried to play for UN Diplomatic. I was the tech leader on my continent, but when I met the three leaders from the other continent, it was like they were playing a different game - they were literally CENTURIES ahead of me in research... I think two of them completed Apollo Program while I was still researching SciMeth - they were simply playing in another league!!!

Cultural defeat to Isabella, 1725 AD.

Wanted to play WOTM, but my DVD/CD drive seems to be broken. At least when I get back from vacation, I won't be distracted by BOTM.
Monte attacked with axes and spearmen; I defended with holkans and warriors.
He paused to heal up but peace was not the way.
Conquest defeat 875 BC. 72 minutes.

Oh, I did like that map gave us enough area - if we could stay out of war and take the barb cities first.
And I liked the chosen civs, from a historical perspective.

Quit in 520 AD, when Monte DOW'd with a big stack of WE/mac/cat against my axes. This was a really frustrating game for me - a bunch of small errors piling on. The last was in the very early AD's, when I bulbed Philo and looked like I might actually begin to catch up in tech. Then I hit WFYABTA with HC towards the end of my carefully planned () trading spree and didn't manage to get Construction/HBR. It was a choice between completing Currency + COL to fix my finances or elephants/cats for Monte. Gambled on the former and just crossed my fingers that the DOW wouldn't come 'till 700-800 AD or so...

Killing me.

Too funny!!!

Retire in 1000ad or so. Took the easy starting save. Settled on the plains hill and expanded until the economy crashed. I chopped the pyramids as one early wonder. I had good relations with everyone. Generally behind until HC took to beating up everyone. I was spared for a while. So, it was HC at the top and the others of us trundling along with lower scores. Dithered on a victory condition then settled on culture. Got religions spread around, temples built and some cathedrals, too. Chopped out a couple of wonders into my three culture cities, including Notre Dame. But, I couldn't maintain good relations with HC and after vasselizing Monty, he came after me. There was little chance for me. I retired.

Got 2 DOWs, one from HC shortly after AD even I beg a 10 turns of forced peace while he is pleased at me. Another from Joao at the same turn I Dowed HC. After I defeated HC and send my forces to his continent and captured a coastal city in his continent. Then I made a huge mistake to send all my navies and air units to the city. I was too confident that my tanks could hold on the city, however it turned out to be a joke and over 60 units were buried in the city.

Conquest win in 1745AD. The final beaker output was half of BOTM29. Is there any chance that I can get both the award and shield?:p

First GOTM and first deity game for me.

Followed the strategy of Snaaty from the war academy and got great library quite fast due to lots of forest around the nice capitol and marble close by. Started generating great scientiests right away attempting to win lib race.
Unfortunately I forgot to build enough military units so my power rating was low around 300 AD, when Bull was finished gobbling up Monte. He refused to talk for half a millennia or so, while we had a no-progress war. Building all of those military units I didn't have time to get universities so no oxford and no lib, lost by 2 turns.
Then I finally realized how horrible shape I was in. Lost in the techrace and about to be destroyed by bull, who now had knights. Gave up a city for peace and tried to start teching up.
Later I still didn't produce a lot of beakers so I thought I might as well do an espionage economy. It worked ok I guess, producing around 1500 points per turn and stealing my way through the tech tree.
However I never achieved anything other than staying alive untill Isa could win culturally, with HC very close to a space-win.
