Brain transplant

Actually it's far less practical. I'm pretty sure that building a computer brain scanner is far harder then just wiring nerves together.

Of course the easiest way to go is head transplant.

Problem is though reconnecting the spinal cord to the rest of the body, as you have to remove the spinal cord from one body to the other and the new body might reject the new head (of course it can be fixed with a clone) but still, the brain scanner can also be used to put people into computer networks so they can then become robots if they wanted to or make a virtual world for them.
Some people might not want to be biological, but robotic (lasts longer)

Isn't the brain a set of electrical impulses, and wouldn't it be easier to take these impulses into computer code. Remember, you DO have to rewire a lot of nerves to make sure the body works right. It's not good if someone's head is removed and placed on a body and one nerve is wrong and a whole part of the body is unable to function.

But still, if you think head transplants are the more practical option, then OK, that's good enough too, but I still think that if a brain scanner was made, I'd love to be in a robot body (as long as I get my death rays, jetpacks and interdimensional travel!)

a clone could be designed which has no brain of its own, just a stub on the top of the spine. Then 'simply' graft your brain onto the stub, as u say there will be no rejection and no ethical problem because the clone was never 'alive'. I guess it would need something to control its breathing and basic operations while it was grown.

I don't mind having a go any volunteers?

Nah, I'd rather not. You go be flesh and bone and die when a bullet hits you, but I think I should get some robot parts grafted into me or go the whole way with my brain impulses in the cold metal case of a robot.... as long as I get cool stuff (As I mentioned before, but also a couple of missile launchers would be nice!)

Arent things like the lungs and heart self acting anyway, meaning if you take a heart out of someones body it would pump even if you ran blood through it?

Doesn't the brain itself eventually decay after a while? Even if the procedure was possible, I wonder exactly how long "the procedure" would prevent death? What? 20-30 years before old people neurological diseases kick in?

Also, in regards to previous comments, a computer is generally a computer. Can we still regard a shell "programed" with the decedent's memories as that same person? I don't think so. It'll just be a machine.

No. To keep a heart beating (eg when waiting for transplant) you'd need a machine.

I think connecting all the spinal cords would be the tricky part. And there's the tricky problem with the possible risk of the body rejecting the new brain.

This brain transplant business is people with a primitive technology trying to imagine future technology. They wont have to do messy, invasive things like ripping peoples brains out and sticking them in specially grown bodies. Youd probably take some kind of nano DNA rearranging pill and your current body would be restored to how it was at 20, or it would grow you a set of wings, turn you blue, or whatever.

Akchewally yes, anti ageing technologies would have advanced to the point where brain transplants are not necessary. Unless you want a robot body with missile launchers.

Looks like I've found a way round my mid-life crisis.

I'd stick with the robot. Anyone comments about how robotic you are or how cold and heartless? Zap them with your death ray, that'll teach them not to insult your awesome body and instil fear on anyone else who might dare to insult your awesomeness

Boss: Hi Stylesrj, did Jeff give you the report on the Spacely Sprockets account?

Stylesrj: Well, he was going to but..I zapped him with my death ray.

Boss: Dont tell me he insulted your awesome body...

Stylesrj: Yes, he did.

Boss: Sheesh, what a nut! (notices one of Stylesrj turrets swivel towards him) Not you! I meant Jeff!
