Brave New World's 9 new Civs

I mean something besides USA and Brazil. USA's pretty much a given for any Civ game, so it sort of doesn't count in a way, but anyhow having just USA and Brazil would be a bit awkward in my opinion.

Perphaps Cuba? Id love it to see Cuba in the game!

So what would be your "out of left field" guesses? The darkhorses?

I could see the following

1. Israel (After years of begging, the Polish finally got their civ - Israel would bring sales as well particularly in the pro-Israel west where the game sells)
2. Belgium (Scramble for Africa scenario, already has 2 city states, another European civ, etc.)
3. Italy (I don't see it happening, but it is reasonable to put them in the dark horse category)
4. Inuit (A fan favorite here in these forums and after seeing Polynesia, it is a potential choice)
5. Swahili/Zimbabwe/Benin/etc. Most people are rightfully guessing Kongo and Zulu, but with the Scramble for Africa scenario I wouldn't be surprised if we got another African civ as well
6. Gran Colombia - (Would fit into the New Worldish kind of theme that seems to be going on)
7. Khazars (Continuing on the diplomatic, religious, and horse based cultures that are traditional in Civ. It would be a somewhat central Asian civ too to fill up more of the map)
8. Vatican/Papal States. Would cover the in between from non Italian city states and the Italian Peninsula. Has historically acted as a huge vehicle for diplomacy and in past civ games has been the alternative for a "World Congress" (Apostolic Palace or even somewhat arguable the into the ren. scenario from GK). Wide religious influence and would be less controversial than an Israel pick, pending when the civs were designed could fit well considering the recent resignation of Benedict/appointment of Francis I

Those are my left field potentials

haha!! wow... this is just SWEET!! Very excited... announced today and nearly 300 posts already... I wonder when the speculation will end and concrete details are actually released

Pax is in a week. Last Pax we found out all but what, 2 of the civs that would be in GK?

My thoughts on possible darkhorses:

- Israel - yeah, would work as a darkhorse. Personally I think if they do put it in it'd probably have to focus on ancient Israel to avoid controversy, but who knows.
- Vietnam - I'm Vietnamese, so I'll just put it here because it'd be funny
- Swahili - also a good possibility, particularly given the focus on trade routes
- Timurds/some central Asian civilization - Silk Road = THE very definition of trade routes
- Mississippi/Apache - another New World civ
- Italy

A stretch, but still an option: South Africa

Instead of the Zulu we get a South Africa civ, uniting elements of the Zulu, Boers and the modern state.

Pax is in a week. Last Pax we found out all but what, 2 of the civs that would be in GK?

Last time we were luckier since we got more the one civ revealed at firts( first reveal was I believe Celts, Dutch and Maya+Byzantines through religion screen).
Hope we'll see more then one or two new civs at PAX.

That being said and strictly addressing this topic, I I do think that Brazil really ought to be present in the game, even if they also include Portugal (we have both the UK and the US, right?). Not to mention that we are in dire need of some kind of modern day latinamerican civ (unless you want to count the Aztecs as Mexico)

You do have a point cybrxkhan.

But, if you look from another angle, is kind of weird that Brazil is not on the game yet.

Its the only top 10 economy of the world out of the game;
Its the 5 biggest country;
Fill the void of south american civs;
Had a major role on the history of his region;
Its a huge touristic place and trader of commodities;
Its the biggest catholic country;
Have the Amazon, the Christ, the biggest city on the Americas, the carnaval, the football and the women :D

Brazil can be a very unique civ.

More modern civs for me, please, so I can create scenarios based on the World Wars and more current situations. Here's a list of the civs I'd like to see in the expansion along with Poland and Assyria (I guess we are pretty sure that's in?);

Italy
Israel
Mexico
Brazil
South Africa
Portugal
Indonesia

My Predictions:
1. Poland
2. Assyria

3. Portugal (makes sense with the trade notes)
4. Zulu (why wouldn't they?)
5. Israel (makes sense with the World Congress and new diplomacy notes)
6. Florence (trade notes)
7. Sioux or Cherokee (we know there is a Civil War scenario, times with Dakota Uprisings)
8. Phoenicians (trade notes)
9. Canada or Austraila (I'd like both, but the above ones seem more certain to me... and they need these to go with the concentrating on the end game)

If this (The Expansion name) is a reference to the book the "Brave New World", has anyone read it to give any ideas which potential civs could be in it? I am reading a synopsis of the book at the moment and it appears that the Anasazi and their descendants played a key role in the book. Possibly means that the Anasazi could be another theoretical dark horse?

What we know: Poland

What we think: (Assyria)

My guesses:

The Zulu (legacy, Africa Scenario)
Italy (Fits theme great works theme, Africa Scenario)
Brazil (Fits Late-game theme)
Sumer (We need more Mesopotamians)
The Cherokee/Some variation of the "Five Civilized Tribes" (Civil War)
The Sioux (just a favorite of mine)
Portugal (Trading Africa scenario)

Small info:
In the Poland thread somebody posted a Polish article.
The Poles have a UB: It replaces the stables and grants XP for cavalry, bonus yields and gold from pastures.
The Winged Hussar makes enemy units withdraw and breaks their formation that way.

Portugal
Indonesia

Australia, New Zealand, good calls.

Guy hates Native American civs, promotes new zealand...

hahahaha

I'm sorry, but Native cultures such as the Olmec, Mississippian and Navajo have had a much larger impact on world history and culture than Australia and New Zealand. Mississippians built the famed river cities, and at one point had a city larger than Paris and London in its time. They were also hugely influential on all the native tribes in the central and eastern North America. Where is new zealands cultural impact? what was their military history? Do they have a large empire that has influenced the histories of civs around them? No. They have had virtually zero impact on the world. I find it ridiculous that you would suggest these countries and say Native civs are undeserving. Just because their history and culture was lost or destroyed by westerners doesnt mean that didn't have one (they in fact did have large, expansive empires with enormous cultural influenced for centuries).

Aldous Huxley's Brave New World is a book about a dystopian future based off of Shakespeare's Tempest. Seeing how Shakespeare's theater is a world wonder in this expansion and seeing how the World Congress can sound a bit comparative to the World State - I think ill go ahead and add in the Anasazi as a reasonable dark horse civ

New Zealand:

-First Contry in the World when Women vote (1893)
- Fought in WWII
-Huge tourism
- rank num 1 in wellfare

Mississipians = gave a name of a river. well done.

Yeah, but the title of that book itself also comes from a quote in the Tempest. There's really no basis to assume the expansion has any connection to Huxley's book.
