Breastfeeding in class

You're presupposing that all of class was lost due to the presence of a child.

Also, are you anti-family or something? Sometimes, the world makes parents make touch choices like this.

Why is feminism even a subject that can be taken?

Are you seriously willing to defend the assertion that feminism classes shouldn't be offered, considering all of the other strange classes that are offered?

I realize it would be convenient if only classes which supported your ideology were taught and ideologies you dislike simply refused to assert themselves and spread, but you have no right to ask and no reason to expect this to happen.

As for the breastfeeding I agree with VRCW. Not a big deal really.

I'm presupposing that she introduced needless distractions to the classroom environment and that she had solutions available to her. Cancel class or hire a sitter as providing day care for her children during class time wasn't in her job description.

She chose poorly.

Canceling class seems the worst choice. b I do not see why it is even an option when you have the solution of teaching the class, through example, about real world problems faced by working women.

It is a feminist class after all. While this doesn't really change the 'rightness' or 'wrongness' of her decision, it certainly puts the decision in perspective.

@Dino Doc
How is having class worse than not having class?

Sorry that doesn't work here as working women in the real world don't have the ability to take their children with them to work on a whim much less have the option of allowing them to become a physical distraction while at work.

Yeah, I think if you have the chance to have 85% of class and have 0% of class, you'd want to opt for the 85%.

I know this isn't particularly common in professional office buildings, but we sometimes let our employees take their infants to work if they have an interview and don't have child care options.

So professors don't work in the real world?

And as downtown noted, women can and do bring their children to work. In fact, several of my male colleagues here brought their kids in last week to watch them.

If they had been females who had to breastfeed them, it wouldn't have been a distraction. We're adults.

In the past few years, thanks to feminists, workplaces have become more accommodating to breastfeeding.

But it does happen and is becoming more common. He said it happened in his office, and it happens in mine.

I know this isn't particularly common in professional office buildings, and for good reason as it is unprofessional.
It is getting more common than you realize. I work in the most conservative county in Texas. There is a company run by conservatives that has the phrase "A Christian Company" right on their sign for God and everyone to see. Even they have have gone out of their way to accommodate working parents, including breastfeeding women.

I still don't understand why conservatives would be against breastfeeding to begin with. It seems in their 'pro-family' interests.

There's no place it's inappropriate to breast feed. There are places it's inappropriate to bring an infant. To work with you is one of them.
