Brigham Young was the leader of the Mormon Church after Joseph Smith, and lead the Mormons to the West. The Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormon Church) created their own state called Deseret, meaning honey bee in the Book of Mormon. Deseret consisted of Utah and much of California, Nevada, Arizona, and Oregon. The state of Deseret was never recognized by the US government but it later became the territory (and eventually state) of Utah.

My version of Young is more like if Brad Pitt was playing him in a movie, but the real Young wasn't too bad looking since he had 55 wives!

one point of correction, its the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, no such thing as "The Mormon Church"

great animation, maybe you can do a later one with his full length beard!

one point of correction, its the The Church if Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, no such thing as "The Mormon Church"
"if"? I always thought it was "of". At least that is the way Eran of Arcadia has written it in his "Ask A Mormon" thread.
Maybe that's how it is commonly called ?
Based on his chosen title for the thread, that he styles himself a "Stormin' Mormon" and that all my LDS friends recognize the term when it's used, I'd say that's the case.

:p:pps typo, my bad

yes, Mormon is used often to reference the church and its members, but it started because some people used it offensively , (sim to the origins of Americans being called Yankees), most Mormons :)goodjob:) today don't have a problem with it , its preferable to say LDS for short.

Part of the problem is the number of splinter groups who affiliate themselves as "mormons" without actually being part of the LDS church. The most famous are the polygamous colonies, but there are several other small groups as well.

In a way its similar to say "Protestants" to cover a broad range groups.

The church is called the Church of Latter Day Saints, but I think its more commonly and widely known as Mormon or the Mormon church (Wikipedia notes that "it is colloquially, the Mormon Church"). But I will edit the OP.

Not quite, it's The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but thanks :goodjob:

Point being that if you are going to correct the nomenclature used by someone else then you ought to make certain that the alternative you suggest is itself correct. In addition: given a situation in which you insist on formalities colloquialisms such as "my bad" defeat your purpose. Do you really wish to present yourself as sloppy and immature when holding others to such a high standard of discourse?

Good point, thank you for the correction. Though there's no need to be obnoxious about it.

The name of the LDS Church changed a number of times during Joseph Smith's time, but by the time of his death, and during the leadership by Brigham Young (which would seem to be the point that this amazing leaderhead is made for), the name was The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I am looking forward to this mod.

Considering this is a historically based thread and the term "Mormons" has historically been used as a derisive term, only becoming more neutral recently, thus a relevant point. I wasn't aware that proving relevant information was considered "advertising," granted I suppose some might find history boring.

I personnaly see no interest at all in discussing if the Mormons should be called Mormons or not. It is not only OT but also very repetitive. Advertising for this church is boring too and does not have much to do here IMHO.
