British woman might go to jail for having loud sex. Police state?

It would be nice if this could have been resolved without governmental involvement. Did the neighbors ask the couple to be more respectful before complaining?

I do agree that this could be a violation of noise ordinances, but jail time seems way too harsh, unless this was a repeat offense.
