Anyone have a brush with fame? Have you met, shook hands, partied with, etc. a famous person?

Looking back, I've been lucky and have a long list. Most of it is due to a part-time job as a security guy at a sports arena; some are due to my USAF historian position. The rest is just dumb luck:

Entertainers:

* Said hello to Def Leppard while they were playing soccer before a concert.

* Said hello to Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn before their show.

* Met and talked with the group Alabama after their show.

* Became Eddie Money's 'buddy' for the night because I was the only security guy that recognized him and didn't keep him from going backstage. He was so drunk and his breath about killed me!

* Caught Steve Perry's (Journey) hat when he threw it at a concert. When I saw the crowd closing in on me to take the hat, I threw it into the mass and watched as people fought tooth and nail for it.

* I'm in Van Halen's Panama video. They filmed it at the Philadelphia Spectrum while I was at the concert (1984). You can't see me because I'm a dot in the crowd. :)

* Talked at length with Linda Blair (girl in the Exorcist) at a toy/comic convention. She was hot!!!

Political/Historical:

* Ten feet from Ronald Reagan when he was campaigning in 1984. He's a big guy in person. He later waved to me when his motorcade passed. :)

* Talked with William S. Cohen, Clinton's Secretary of Defense when he visited the museum I worked at.

* Interviewed General John Allison, an orginal Flying Tiger from WWII and considered the 'Father of USAF SpecOPS'.

Sports:

* Tim Leary, a pitcher for the NY Yankees, signed my ball cap.

* Had long conversation with Dale Earnhardt Jr. (NASCAR #8) at a computer gaming store. He asked for my opinion on a NASCAR game he was going to buy. I told him I had no idea because I didn't like NASCAR or racing games! I had no idea who he was. He just smiled and we talked games until he reached the register.

Of all the people you said I only know who Ronald Reagan were and the name Van Halen sounds a bit familiar.

Same here. The name Def Leppard sounds familiar though, their drummer has only one arm, right?

I've met Nigel Mansell, which was pretty cool becuase I was a big F1 fan at the time.:)

I've met and talked with several cartoonists at a National Cartoonists' Society meeting, including Mike Jantze and Mort Walker.

I recognise most of them mano, guess it's an age thing.

I used to work in a local comedy club, and whilst working there I met:

- The Rolling Stones
- The Kids in the Hall
- Mr. T
- Emo Phillips

Plus Norm MacDonald was just and up and commer then.

Outside of there, I once met Bunny Laroque, though I doubt anyone outside of Canada knows who he was.

Lots of seriously famous people are friends of the family; you definately have seen them on television and in papers. I'm not going to drop names though.

Actually it's not good, it makes me feel pathetic! :(

They have achieved so much and I simply haven't. I hate the question "what do you do..."

---

Edit: I don't have a single autograph or anything like that. Shook their hands and made myself look incredibly stupid though :p

I forgot! Willie Mays (famous baseball player) signed my high school yearbook. He gave a talk at my school and I happened to run into him later on. Nice guy.

Ahhhhhhhh!!!!! Don't know Van Halen?! My heart is pierced!

They were my ultimate favorite band in the 1980's. Couldn't get enough of them!

Neat list! :goodjob:

Emo Phillips is a weird guy. Was Mr T. 'in character'? I would have cracked up!

Clinton's helicopter was parked in a hanger I worked in at McChord AFB. Like a dummy, I decided to walk right up to it and have a look. Almost got shot by one serious Marine guard!

Dear God, I must be so old if there's a generation of people out there who HAVEN'T seen Van Halen's "Panama" video ... Ah, was there a better year than 1984?

Brushes with fame -

Went to high school with David Robinson's younger brother (Robinson was a famous NBA basketball player, for those who might be too young or not up on their basketball). Met David a bunch of times.

Met and shook hands with Clint Eastwood when he was mayor of Carmel. Very tall, grip like iron.

Met Yuki, lead singer of a Japanese band called Judy & Mary, in a club in Sapporo's Susukino district. Tiny girl, cute as a button.

Once rode the same bullet train as Yoshinori Watanabe, head of the Yamaguchi-gumi yakuza family. He was standing in Kobe station talking with some guy; about six or seven tough-looking guys in suits were standing all around them with earpiece radios. My wife kept saying, "don't look at them! don't look at them!", but it really was like some scene out of a movie. Later, on the train, my wife went forward a couple of cars to get a coke but was stopped by one of the security guys. He asked what she wanted, and when she said a coke he went and got her one for free. Didn't let her enter the car. I wanted to go have a look for myself (maybe get me another free drink!), but my wife was really scared and wouldn't let me go.

Saw Tom Cruise from about 10 ft. away making a movie in Los Angeles airport last February. No idea what the movie is. He was dressed up in some flashy grey suit, had greyish hair, and two-day stubble. Looked like a disguise, so the movie might be Mission Impossible III. Anyway, he's shorter than the gossip made him out to be.

My dad met Prince Charles when he got his MBE. I've seen Nancy Certwright(Bart from the Simpsons), and I've got a bookend (alledgedly) made from Admiral Jellico's flagship the H.M.S Ironduke, that was at Jutland.

I've was eating in a restaurant in Hockenheim when I saw Eddie Ervine, Nicki Lauda and Pedro de la Rosa eating at the other table.

I couldn't believe it at first, but when I did I stalked them untill I got to take a picture with them ;)

later that weekend I sneaked into the paddock with a friend, something that you normally have to pay 300 euro for. There I got on autograph of Ros Bron, Juan Pablo Montoya, Nick Heidfeld, Massa and a couple of other drivers and Peter Sauber. :)

The only one that didn't wanna give an autograph was Ralf Schumacher.

That was my weekend with the rich and famous. :goodjob:

The only famous person that I can remeber meeting was Kevin Costner (is that how you spell Costner?) It was at a college world series game, me and some of my friends snuck up into the box seats where we noticed him. After the game I went down and talked to him and got him to sign a baseball card of our local mascot:lol:.

VH ruled!!! My brother and I started a rock band because of them. I was like Alex because I played drums; my brother was Eddie since he played guitar! We weren't that good, but had a blast playing at parties for free beer.

Boy... I'm old........

ive seen Christer Pettersson, the man who was freed of the murder of Swedish prime minister Olof Palme, twice. Nicke from Hellacopters, and Björn Källman, a Swedish actor. Niklas Strömstedt and Kattis Alshammar a famous singer and some girl from some tv show ive never seen in my life, they had a date at the time, aaaw... :cute:.

I only have met norwegian celebrities.

The most famous are: Harald Eia (comedian), Harald Numme (talk show host), Espen Eckbo (comedian).

I work at Oslo's hottest stand-up joint, and the performers and special guests often hang around having a beer (or ten) with the crew after the show :)

I also know popstar Lene Marlin through common friends..
