[BTS] 43 Religions

Well Kabalah is a jewish philosophy. But its not really a religion of its own

Well I would suggest that Shinto be moved to folk religion since it lacked much doctrinal structure until Japanese nationalists tried to structure it in the period of modernization. On the other hand I think that Daoism should be moved up to category two since it has at times had much more doctrinal strength (for instance the White Cloud monastic sect). In its place why not have just Chinese folk religion listed?

The only issue I have with the category of folk religion is that folk religions are almost necessarily confined to a locality (since they're of a folk) certainly a group from place A can adopt elements of folk religion from place B but does that mean they have adopted the folk religion itself? Categories one and two are usually pretty categorically rigorous whereas folk religion (category 3) really doesn't maintain a lot of clear divisions within itself and so doesn't lend itself very well to the type of religious definition used in Civ 4. Could we just go with two XML files (philosophies and religions) since Civ already takes into account culture which already has a lot to do with the idea of folk culture/religion?

How about for category 1 manifest destiny? The spreading of Christianity through force of arms.

Manifest Destiny has never been a Christian term, simply an American government term. The idea is a historic one for Christendom, but you need to find a better name.

I'll work on a list myself. Interesting the idea of putting the Animist faiths into practices/local favors. That way, we can end up with what amount to cultural divisions within the faiths, like Celtic Protestantism versus Germanic Protestantism.

True…
How about Evangelism?
+10 :gold: +2 :culture: +3 :)
-%25 :science: in cities with :religion:
-3 hit to civs with different :religion:

Where is the masons or masonry but religion not philosophy?
It's seemed to the taoism and to the confucionism...

Hey! Just a few corrections to make.

Hindu religions are pretty accurate with the exception of a few things:

Remove the Hinduism thing, change "Shiva" to "Shaivism" (I am a Kashmiri Shavite myself), change "Vishnu" to "Vaishnavism", and Shakti to Shaktism.

The Mahayana symbol is not the Enso (I am a Zen Buddhist) and the Vajrayana is not the dharma wheel. I don't think they have their own symbols.

You probably don't need Neopaganism considering you have all of the other pagan religions.

I also have to congratulate you on your use of "Semetic" for the pre-Judaism Jewish religion and "Chinese" for the pre-Taoist religion of the Chinese.

This is a very good mod! I will make sure to download it myself.

Also, I would like to know if this is available for the vanilla version or will you need some expansion packs because I am using it on my vanilla version, and it isn't working.

Anything wrong with these philosophical schools for Hinduism?

Samkhy
Yoga
Nyaya
Vaisheshika
Purva Mimamsa
Vedanta

Do you have any suggestions for Buddhism?

I rather see it in the other forum, but if it is easier to post here then post here. I will appreciate any info. Thanks ahead of time.

All those that you have provided are legitimate but I can not provide much information for a lot of them. Raja Yoga and Vedanta are the ones I would be most qualified in but I would be happy to help with research.

The diverse beliefs of the Indian people are so numerous that it would probably be easier to just cut out all the philosophy and just leave the main "denominations," Vaishnavism (Centered on the worship of Shri Vishnu and his avataras,) Shaivism (Centered on the worship of Mahadev, Shri Shiva, his family as stated in the Upanishads and other books), Shaktism (Centered on the worship of the Divine Feminine, Durga, Kali, Lakshmi, Parvati, Sarasvati etc.) and Smartha ( Ganesh, Shiva, Vishnu, Murugan, Durga, and Surya the Aditya)

If you try to add all the philosophies to Sanataan Dharm, we will just have confusion but if you really want help with that, I can help with Vedanta.

The forum will not allow me to register

The forums server had some problems yesterday. But it has had a lot of problems recently. I am making philosophies regardless for other religions. You can look under the Status section for my brainstorming ideas. Six schools might be manageable. But for Buddhism there is half a million. That is my problem. Thanks again.

For someone not familiar with Buddha Dharma, you did very well!

Alright, I'll try to join.

I've registered at the new forum and looked over the current setup. I have a few questions:

1) How many slots are you planning to allot to each religious family?

2) Is there really much difference between Philosophies and Practices other than ethnicities? Many ideas seem to fit into either category. For example, the same thing could be described as Platonism (phil), Asceticism (prac), and Monasticism (prac).

I would suggest perhaps dropping or altering the Practices category. I love the idea of Vedic Whabiism being different from Celtic Wahabiism and Hellenic Paganism being different from Andean Paganism.

Perhaps if the Practices category simply became a Culture category? The ancient cultural groups could be represented and then some modern ones could also be included. The non-cultural entries could then be moved into Philosophies, for instance Shamanism becomes a philosophy embraced by some groups such as Native Paganism in real world history.
