[BtS] Amra's Modpack v3 for Beyond the Sword

You're correct Amra, you don't need to modify the vista or xp pro .exe for BtS. Firaxis fixed it as best they could for vista, now all you really can do is ..... add more RAM. I run 3G myself, but I'm thinking of going up to 4G just to make things play smoother.

Double check everything in that thread before modifying your exe as I don't think you need to do that for Beyond the Sword, that was just for Warlords. I think Firaxis modified their exe before releasing BtS.

All I did on my (WinXP Pro) computer was add the new /3GB and the /Userva switches after getting my physical ram up to 3GB. BTW, I did run AIAutoplay on a Huge map at Epic speed last night and no MAF, so that was a good sign.

Yep, when I opened CCF Explorer the "> 2Gb" option was already set. However as Vista no longer has "boot.ini" I am learning to use bcdedit.exe which edits the "boot configuration data" store which has replaced "boot.ini". :scan:

Let's see what happens

Final update on Vista "boot configuration data" is that the previous switches which were available for XP Pro (i.e. /3GB and /userva=xxxx) are no longer available in Vista. The Vista "/set truncatememory" switch appears to only do what it says. There is a reference to a "/set maxmem" switch but after having a good look, it appears to be one of those many Microsoft inconsistancies where something is referred to but doesn't seem to exist when you go looking for it.

In the end, it appears that Physical Memory is all that can be configured (as opposed to Physical and Virtual Memory in XP Pro) so unless someone has some inside information on the BCD file (of which I have none) I guess this is a dead end.

As you mentioned Amra, there is no real substitute for heaps of Physical Memory.

A little extreme, but if you pay MS the USD$10 or whatever it is for you, you could get the 64-bit edition of Vista if your computer supports it (most new computers should, especially if they came with Vista). Makes MAF errors VERY hard to achieve due to the way 64-bit OSes handle memory, but only MAF errors. Vista's got its own little nitpicks with Civ4.

Yes I appreciate that . . . . and maybe in the end I will go out and purchase a new $3000 new laptop with 4GB of ram as well. However, in the interest of the wider community, it would be great if we could find a simple (from a programming or configuration point of view) solution to this problem so that all can enjoy this great mod without having to dip into the family budget.

Having said that, if you have any informamion about how to modify the "Boot Configuartion Data" with respect to Vista Business it would be greatly appreciated.

Found it, I think. For Vista, it's:

BCDEDIT /export "C:\BCD Backup"
BCDEDIT /set increaseuserva 3072

Must be run from the command prompt, the first thing creates a backup in case the memory trick does something unexpected.

Edit: In the spirit of giving credit where credit is due, I got this from the first result in a google search for "vista boot allocate more memory to applications"

Not to wet anyones appetite or not but Amra really is a genius when it comes to mod making, I'm not sure how he did it but he made his own video for the mesoamerican religion(his own creation for the mod). In the same style as the main fixaxis ones as well....which to my knowledge nobody has ever done before.

Everyone here is in for a treat when he releases BETA 3(I think thats what it will be called) which I think will be open. Who knows what he is planning on adding to it...

Be careful now, you're gonna build me up way too high & I'll fall flat on my face (or some other bodily part).

Oh, and the check's in the mail. :mischief:

You have indeed !!!! Mateee you're a champion. I've played a large number of turns though Medieval and Renaissance Eras with no MAFs. I've even stopped saving after each turn.

Having said that, when I played in "Full Screen Mode", I did get an error about:

"Extended Memory doesn't Include Devices"

however if I play in normal mode i.e. not "Full Screen Mode", then there is no errors at all.

Thanks alot for your effort and solution.

Oh, and the check's in the mail.

You are still our star modder . . . even if you feel that you may not be perfect !!!

PS: I'll send you my address for my cheque !!

Thanks for the kind words Mo_Jo... and I seem to have misplaced my checkbook. I hate it when that happens! :p

Thanks also, OwieB2003 for helping Mo_Jo & other Vista users out. I appreciate it.

If anyone wants a status report on Amra Advanced, I've posted one HERE. You can also get to it from the link in my signature. Things are progressing but at a slower pace than I anticipated (had a tough last week with some very serious real life issues) so please don't hold me to any timelines I may have mentioned previously.

I got some ideas for ya about certain mods to use Amra. I currently play RoM 2. It is an awesome mod, but of course I come from playing yours in Warlords and Vanilla. The tech tree is amazing in RoM 2, so are the new religions, the new wonders and buildings, and even the Pioneer and Colonist! Heck you can even destroy religions with an Inquisition. it has these mods in it.

BtS: Next War
BtS: Charlemagne (just the new units)
BtS: Final Frontier (just some unit graphics)
Ethnic Arstyles for BtS
Ethnically Diverse units
Better Espionage Screen for Civilization 4 BTS
The Lost Wonders of Civilization v1.3
Greenmod 2.10
Caravan mod
Modern Warfare
Civics'n'Stuff
Improved Leaders & Civics
Nautil's air units mod
Sevopedia 2.3.1
Specialist Stacker
BtSFlagMod
Enhanced Tech Conquest
Religion and Corporation Screens
Longer techbar in techscreen
Inquisition - Limited Religions
wide City bar
JKP1187's Event mod
Raw Commerce
Civ4lerts
zCivics
34 Civ DLL (Bhruic's patch included)

I rly think you should check out adding some of those into the mod. Expecially Sevopedia. I've spent hours just sitting down and reading about the different civilizations. You are an outstanding modder Amra, and I want you to beat RoM, which IMO is currently the leader in Civ 4.

Checked out your status report. Looks already quite impressive!;)

I agree that Rise of Mankind v2 is an excellent mod and I recommend it to anyone as well as Kalimakhus' RevolutionDCM add-on for it.

Even though my full version is called "Amra Advanced", I don't think it will ever be as advanced or game changing as Zaparra's mod (RoM). I have a lot of the same components but am only looking to create a mod that is somewhere in between RoM and my Basic version.

Heard of Mankind, never really looked into it.

Don't be so negative Amra. I'm very selective about the mods I pick (My computer can only do so much), and I've been waiting excitedly for yours :D
