[BTS] Cultural Diversity Mod

Well I don't want you to rush. :p It's probably better to wait though, because asio might finish some more nice buildings for you. So, anytime before next weekend would be great! It sounds like you've made it easy to merge for us as well! :D I really appreciate the effort you're putting into it.

Sure you don't. :p
And it's probably better I work on a deadline since after this weekend my holiday is over. ;)
Besides, Afro/Native artstyle won't have ethnic buildings anyway, since there hardly are any outthere.

Well if you want to spend the last of your holidays coding that's up to you I guess. ;) (Do we ever get a break?) :p I don't necessarily work better on deadlines as I usually leave the bulk of the work till the last night. Then I forget to polish stuff before uploading. :p But I'm gunna get it right this time.

I can work on some African buildings after I finish some more units (probably a week or two away). :p Hard to imagine an African university though.

They won't look that different to ours

Oh, but those occur during the colonial times. ;)

But then they would look European wouldn't they? :p

EDIT: What about the library, that can be built fairly early in the game, so it should look more African, maybe?

My point exactly. :D

Go for it! :goodjob:

And while you're at it, there's a granary, stable, colosseum, market, theatre, castle, courthouse and castle in the list. Everything thereafter might reasonably come from European styles. :mischief:

In any case, Most of the citybuildings even in the Industrial/Modern era are based on the African2 cityset, so an African Academy, Military Academy and Forbidden Palace are on the list too. :(

Hey Chuggi, like what you've done with the modern female settler in your teaser pic! :goodjob:
Btw, have you ever considered switching one of the settler boys to a settler girl? ;)

As on Ethnic Artstyles, here's how a modern era African city looks now. First pic without facilities (except national park and global theatre) and the second pic with a full facility set. With facilities it looks nice to me. O yes, don't bother the area 51 model in the background. I've incorporated it as a modern fort.

Nope, never considered it. :p It's an idea, though.

Looks alright but one thing that's really noticable is that everything's colliding (the globe theatre especially) but I suppose that's because it's built on a hill. Also, I think the default city set needs something, maybe just a larger (or clearer) texture, or maybe some variation. I like them keeping the old market, it suits them better. :p

The area 51 as the modern fort is an awesome idea, looks great. :goodjob: Now at least when my stupid automated workers start building forts everywhere, they'll look good.

Chuggi, for an African university you should look at Toulouse-Le mirail university. The architecture was intended for Ouagadogou in Burkina Faso. It was finally constructed in Toulouse. What a lame decision that was !

Hey Chugginator, for African buildings you should be able to easily find old stuff from Ethiopia and Mali giving you an idea of the building style at the very least, as for libraries, Ethiopia and Mali (Arabic) have a long standing literature tradition so libraries shouldn't be that hard to imagine at all.
Fasil Ghebbi contains a Ethiopia library for example,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fasil_Ghebbi
I attached a funny little old transcript pdf file from the New York Times regarding Menelik's plans for a new Ethiopian Library.

I don't know about Zulus, since they were herdsmen tribes mostly it's hard to imagine them settling down to make library and stuff. But for two thirds of the "black" african civs in the game, you should have no troubles at all for making buildings.

Yeah, I know. Just moved the olimpia graphics to the 4x4 leafnode. Problem is that it always disappear half in nearby hills or get halfway in the ocean when coastal. In the 3x3 leafnode at least the citybuildings entering it look like they're part of the general structure. But will leave it in 4x4 for the time being.
About the texturing comment, I'm quite proud to be ignorant in that kind of matters. I'll leave that to capable texturers. ;)

So they can share building styles with the middle-east? :p Geo, how many middle-eastern styled buildings are needed at the moment?

I have plenty of mosque models to choose from for national wonders and such, but nothing for city facilities except the Ab-anhar (aqueduct), the walls, a harbor, and a university (mosque of Muscat).
Sure, I can use the Arabian Madrassa and Persian Apothecary to take over library and grocer graphics, but that's about it.

I'll have to get to work on something in my spare time. :p

Chug... I have released my latest update (for my mod) after waiting some time... I believe by-law, you must now release all your new units within 24hrs of my latest update. :deal:

Haven't had a chance to do any modding lately. :(
