[BTS] Cultural Diversity Mod

yeah i rered :)

for making textures i recommend flickr.com - there's a lot of cc photographies :) i'm sure there'll be plenty of harrods :)

EDIT :) What it'll be fish market in tokyo? ;)

Thanks, guess I'm on a contract now.;) I've made a start on Harrods (foundation and second row of windows - windows painted on in the texture) and it's looking alright. Would a 512x512 texture be ok? and how many polygons do you think I should aim for?

Also now's a good chance for me to thank all the building makers out there, it's a lot more stressful than it looks.

The market is for sale of goods ingame, asio, its the grocer that covers the food department. :nono:
Besides, there's already a Tsukiji retexture of the market outthere. ;)

true :) so any photo for asian department store? :) It could inspirate me to make it :)

256x256 is enough (128x128 is recomended for the game, but pcs are better than two years ago), tough you can always keep 512x512 textures for future usage (i always keep)

And polygons - i try to keep everything in 150-300 faces (for standard buildings), and <1000 for wonders (exceptions are sydneys opera and hungarian parliament with around 1600)

I'll include a 256x256 and 512x512 (for high def) so people can choose. The building so far only has 20 faces, but the addons (13 green overhangings) total 156 faces. Maybe I should've started with a smaller, less complicated building? :p

Keep in mind that tiny details can as well be shown by texture, they don't have to be on the model itself. ;) Besides, ground level will barely be visible anyway if this building sits in the middle of a city.

I'm still looking for one. It seems google is close to worthless for asian department stores. I'll try again after my errands for this evening are done.

You can always make it simplier - smaller for example (for example instead using 8 pillars -> using 6 etc)

The model isn't easiest - that's true :)

Any idea when those things will come ? ;)

For buildings European-type artstyles are done save for 'Harrods'. Asian artstyles are pretty much covered too. I almost have enough material to make a move on middle east/Egypt. Native and South America will only have new graphics here and there.

And I still need to mix and match the Renaissance city buildings for use in the Industrial era.

When that is done, Civ4PlotLSystem needs an overhaul for the cottages and I'm still trying to let asio's modern watermill show up in the later era's.

Sounds like alot of work, doesn't it? ;)

In any case, I'll release some inbetween showpiece to get interest from artists to look into African/Meso buildings after my holidays are over.

The green canvas are the only addons so far, but for the arches I really want to make them 3D for the full effect. ;) Also, can you reference a vanilla building for me that uses the same plot size that this building is going to use? That way I can get the scale better and you should be able to throw them right in without worrying too much. :p (apart from all that L plot system coding?)

Yep :) There's supposed to be 20 of those green things out the front  so I've cut it back a little already.

Mmm, ideally the same size as the Market: 3x2. But from what I see from the real life dimensions of Harrods, you'll need a 4x2 size to let the model come out in its full glory. So, the only 4x2 buildings I can find are MtRushmore and the Intelligence Agency (NSA_Headquarters as the folder name).
And don't worry about the plot coding. That's already done. I merely need to copy a 4x2 entry in the Civ4CityLSystem file and adjust the path, era and artstyle references. :king:

4x2 is a little small to my liking but I can live with it, I guess. :p It's turning out quite good but it has to be one of the most boring things I've ever made. When I get home from work I'll wrap it up, mirror it and create the shadow for it using the render to texture feature in max.

Then I'll make a new teaser for CDM and get this thread back on track. :p

 For me making buildings is pleasure :) The most boring is making xml :p

Buildings are ok for me, but it kinda drags after a while. When I make units (as long as they go to plan) it's quick, easy and fun. :D But I agree that coding is the worst. :p

Teaser? A teaser? Are you serious? :p:lol:

Well I have to show off the 50+ new units before I release the mod. :p

Geo, here's the modern market:

I didn't make it exactly like Harrods (the dome off the top is missing, for example) because I didn't want to add any more unnecessary faces, and it was easier. :p

Anyway, it has 1470 faces and uses a 256x256 texture (although the 512x512 texture is included just in case anyone wants to use it) and I think it turned out ok for my first building - but I don't like the windows. :p

It should fill the gap well enough for now though.

after some sleep and then work I'll get onto the teaser (which should only take 30min) then I'll finish off any half completed units I have, work out the changelog and then upload the mod after the last bit of polish.
