[BtS] Destiny Mod

Yeah that's where the idea came from. I just didn't want ANOTHER horse based UU since there are the Mongols, Scythians, Huns, etc etc that all demand horse based UUs, there are about 5 UUs each for Horse Archer (aka Horseman), Light Cavalry and Knight so I was trying to spread out a bit the UUs with the Croat Axeman to differentiate a bit between all the other Civs famous for their ancient horsemen.

Ok, it's your mod afterall. I just wanted to highlight that giving Hungary Croat Axemen is like giving the Netherlands French Musketeers as UU ... when I said it was a poor choice in Total War, I meant there was absolutely no historical base for doing so - they just thought it sounds cool and made it up... (although this is nothing compared to Battlefield Assassins, Jesus Christ, what were they thinking? Better to have the Riders of Rohan, it at least has written evidence somewhere)

I promise I won't bother you with this anymore...

The previous version of your mod worked fine for me. As soon as I start a new game with this version though, the game crashes after I have selected the game options. Not a MAF error, just a black screen.

Any idea what mistake I could have made installing?

See if this fixes your problem, unzip this file, overwriting the file in this path..

...\Destiny\Assets\Python\DESTINY\CvGreatGeneralsFromBarbarianCombatEventManager folder

I have got to say you have done a great job with this mod, and I mean that. It is really fun and well done.

Only thing I might add(other than whatever plans you have already) would be afew naval units such as those included in Wolfanzhes mod. I wonder if Jeelen's world maps work for this.

I'll consider adding a couple naval units. The only one I recall off the top of my head being cool and really seeming to fill a missing area was the paddle steamer.

I've been plugging away at the mod again. I'm sure my wife wants to kill me by now!

I am excited to add the Great Doctor (by Tsentom1) to the mod next update since I went ahead and cleaned up his code and updated it to civ 4 bts version 3.19, I'm working on creating the popup pictures for the doctors. It's going to take a while to hunt down all the guys and create the pictures for them and find quotes. I slaved away at it for several hours totally ignoring my wife and kids and I got maybe 1/2 of them done. But it's fun to be creative and learn a bit about important people in history. Before working on this I never knew who was the first to describe correctly and in exact detail the systemic circulation and properties of blood being pumped around the body by the heart (William Harvey) .
 
Looks like a great mod, I love "Extra", but I can't get the in game menu to come up. Tried alt tabbing, restarting, etc. I have a basically brand new machine so I know it can't be hardware, my only guess is maybe that it's Windows 7?

Oh man, I also have the exact same problem. It used to work correctly, install with no problem, I get to the mod normally, but one I chose single player, play now, choose the different option and than boom black screen:

Well this is no good, I will repack the mod and upload it, let me know if that fixes the problem for you guys. It takes a while to upload so please be patient.
 
@HannibalBarka and others: It looks like you are running the French version. I have never tested the mod in other languages. I know many of the tags are incomplete in the text file, this might be causing the problem.

Is anyone having a problem with the english version or is this confined to other languages? I think I may have a fix that will help, not translating the text just duplicating the english and writing it under a "french" tag may fix that problem.

Checking around the forums for "black screen and language" it seems That sort of error usually occurs when a mod doesn't support your selected language. Set civ4 to english and report back if that works.

Is it possible for you to post the files from your logs folder?
 
So for the next version of the mod, I'm going to implement a "promotion lottery" type system. Here's what I have in mind, you guys tell me what you think about it.

What I am putting in is to make newly created units have a very low percentage chance to get a free promotion that will be unavailable any other way (you can't pick it). So there will be a 1% chance for a new unit to get one of these new promotions. It doesn't matter if the unit built is a Worker or a Tank. It will just be "luck of the draw". If you really wanted to you could create hundreds and hundreds of units and you might get a couple of these promotions but then again your empire might turn to crap because you've neglected building other stuff.

I will be adding a couple more promotions to beef up the mod but no planning on making any new additions so huge that it will drastically alter what's existing.

I've based the promotions on the theme of the zodiac. And here's what the promotions will do currently:
Aquarius: Pillages yield Research in addition to Gold, +25% pillaging
Aries: +3 First Strike Chances
Cancer: +1 Move on Defensive Combat Victories
Capricorn: No Combat Penalty for Attacking from Sea, No Combat Penalty for Crossing River
Gemini: 15% Chance to Heal on Combat Victory
Leo: +1 Strength
Libra: Pillages yield Espionage in addition to Gold, +25% pillaging
Pisces: +1 Extra Life
Sagittarius: +3 First Strikes
Scorpio: +20% Chance to Survive a Combat Loss
Taurus: +15% Chance to Heal Friendly Units sharing or within one tile on Combat Victory
Virgo: +50% Hills Defense

So as you see these are somewhat powerful, there will be no way to gain these promotions other than to be "born" with them at a very low percentage chance.

Well although i bought the game in France, i am playing in english.

Hmm.. I did a quick check of the logs and compared them to mine when I run the game.

resmgr.log was blank

PythonErr2.log matched up to mine (different times, to be expected)

So that leaves the xml file which is getting hung up on GraphicOptionInfo.

EDIT: The xml files mentioned aren't in the mod's folder are they? xml\GameInfo/CIV4PlayerOptionInfos.xml or xml\GameInfo/CIV4GraphicOptionInfos.xml? I don't believe they should be with the version you are running. The version I'm working on with modify xml\GameInfo/CIV4PlayerOptionInfos.xml for the Afforess SDK Advanced Automations mod. So if those files aren't there then that means something else is going on and it's tough to say at this point.

It could be your Graphics card is not great? Or maybe something the mod on a Civ 4 English Installation on a French windows base getting confused?

I'm not sure I'd suggest checking around forums if anyone has a similar problem, I will as well and I'll keep looking into your problem but it's tough to say at this point. I should have a new version of the mod up "soon" that may help as well.
 
tbh i'm finding this mod quite frustrating. It seems like all the added content means there's a lot more stuff to build, but at the same time buildings seem to take forever to complete.

Just got to the Future age as the Incans and am having a blast this game. I thought I'd point out that some of the upgrade paths seem broken, like Destroyers dont upgrade to stealth destroyers or advanced jet fighters do not upgrade to fighter squadrons.

If this was on purpose its cool either way, just seemed abit odd.

I love the fact music was added to the future age and the new tech quotes with voiceovers you added Smeagol is simply amazing. Loved hearing the alpha centuari stuff again, been years since I played that game :)
