[BtS] DIPLOMACY: a mod for Diplogames!

I can get a Haitian and possibly a Brazilian speaker. Just let me know what should be said and done.

What languages can you speak?

Although not fluent: Hindi, Mandarin, Thai, Scots Gaelic. I also know enough French and Russian to only -slightly- get lost when visiting either country. ...And to complete a form in order to get a soviet url (.su), only get get denied for it. Not that bad, considering I just wanted it because the idea of a soviet website made me laugh.

In Soviet Russia, website visits you!

I think you should still try recording yourself! We'll hear and decide if it is good or not. I'm especially interested in Thai sounds.

And I can also contribute more sounds. I promise I'll record Order/Select sounds in Finnish, Danish and Bulgarian. I might try Romanian too, although I am pleased with what we have now already.

I'll give it a shot after this move.
Moving from SoCal up to the California-Oregon border either the 22nd or 26th. I've had everything packed for awhile now, but the move keeps getting delayed. X.x Really, really stereotypical union handling the flooring of my house.

The only one of those languages which wouldn't work period in Civ4 is Scots Gaelic. For those who've never heard it... imagine Klingons with a scottish accent.
I can only imagine zooming in on Scotland and hearing cries of "Ciamar a tha sibh, de an t'ainm a tha oirbh?!"
"...Are... are they unhappy?"
Simply "I love you" comes out sounding like Haa-ge-yul ahk-um or-shht.
No offense to Scots Gaelic speakers.

Sorry I haven't commented here in a few days, I've been busy with work and I got distracted with the Hitler and Hiawatha LHs. I am putting my new LH projects on hold until I finish this module pack. If you are interested in knowing which those are they are Ulmanis (Latvia), Nasser (Arabs/Egypt), Cartimandua (Celts), Nagy (Hungary), and Nanuq (Inuit). Ulmanis and Nagy are requests, Nanuq is a project with NikNaks (a Native American module pack, which I will actually expand upon for my own purposes as well) then we have Cartimandua and Nasser who will both appear in the next edition of the mod.

I am hoping to have a preview for Puerto Rico up shortly, I still have to reskin the Lechonera though so it doesn't look like such a dump.

But the main reason I am posting is because I am a bit concerned at the overwhelming amount of select/order sounds you guys expect to appear in this mod. Do you realize how large this mod is going to be with all of these sounds? Don't get me wrong; I am not AGAINST using them at all, but I think there is a point where they may become a bit over the top. I think we should only use them where its absolutely necessary. Canada does NOT need its own select/order sounds. I've studied dialects, and particularly in North America, and it is basically understood that other than Americans and Canadians hardly anyone can recognize the difference. It is things like that which I am speaking of. The Tuetonic Order DOES NOT need its own select/order sounds, the Minoans DO NOT need their own select/order sounds etc.

I appreciate the idea, and believe me I would implement every possible sound I could if I had the ability. But its more important that this mod actually WORKS than it be ridiculously awesome and detailed. We are already adding thirty civs, with their own units and new leaders and buildings, we are already adding all of these diplomacy texts and PROBABLY some new diplomacy music. If we added select/order sounds for every single one of them this mod will be way too big.

Hey, Capo. I see that Nanuq is a figurehead leader. CivGold has an actual historical figure, Nakasuk, the founder of Nunavut.

You'll have to ask Wyz for the info, though.

I agree with you. I think you can in many cases work with what we already have, like Brazil and Portugal, Argentina and Spain. For Canada I did the following in my MOD (I might even unpload it some day, who knows... only if people will be really interested in such a MOD): I gave them English select sounds and French order sounds, it works pretty good!
About the diplomacy music- I wouldn't change the existing music, but I would add music for the new civs. I took my extra diplomacy music from Esnaz's MOD, there's some great music there (for three eras)!

Well, Argentine and Spanish accents are very different. In fact, the way I have them written, they are different in text, mostly because of voseo.

Yes, I know they are different. For example, a double l (ll) will be read "y" in Spain, but "zh" in Argentina. Argentinian Spanish is also... faster, I would say.
Anyway, I think we should focus first on unique languages and not on different accents of the same language. I'll be glad if someone made Argentinian and Brazilians sounds, though!

Since you were making Jawaharlal Nehru of India, I made some diplotext for him. I used some quotes of his.

First Contact:
Greetings. My name is [OUR_NAME]. Would you like peace with the [OUR_EMPIRE]? Without peace, all other dreams vanish and are reduced to ashes.

Refuse to Talk:
I have plenty of problems to deal with already. Do not talk to me, [CT_NAME]!

Friendly Greeting:
Welcome back, [CT_NAME]. Are you hungry? I'll go get that curry I was cooking up for you. Don't worry, it's not too spicy!

We must constantly remind ourselves that whatever our religion or creed, we are all one people. As a member of the same

Demand Tribute Stronger:
Freedom and power bring responsibility, [CT_NAME]. You must comply or else the light will go out for [CT_CIV_SHORT].

Agreed, I don't even notice select/order sounds anyway. I typically play the game muted and throw in my own soundtrack, except for Leonard Nimoy reading tech quotes.
It's Nimoy, you can't mute him.

I'll add new sounds to the final mod, but my objective will be to minimize the size of the mod where at all possible. So certain civs will probably not get new order/select sounds. I know places like Haiti and Argentina have different dialects or even versions of the original language but in the interest of keeping the mod playable I will only really add order/select sounds where I feel it necessary.

As for the module pack I am working on; sorry its taking so long but I am swamped with work and haven't had a whole lot of time to work on civ stuff, then that whole Hitler thing took up a good deal of time. I apologize for that, but the new Hitler was a project that has been in the works for quite some time and we had a really fantastic team working on it so I figured I should get in on that. I mean Ekmek, Bernie, and all those guys! I can't pass up being part of that team!

Having said that, the module pack is VERY close to being finished. I just have to put together a unit set for the Philippenes (which shouldn't really take that long, I hope) and then do a few minor tweaks (the Assyrian and Apache units still need some touch ups). So I'm hoping it will be finished pretty soon. Of course I have to playtest the modules as well.

The new mod itself is going to take quite some time, but I'm hoping that a few of you guys can help me with a few projects. I was going to ask MadmanOfALeader if he wouldn't mind actually writing up the XML for the diplomacy texts for example. So if any of you think you can help me in any way with the new mod that would be awesome and would seriously shave off a lot of time. Putting in the new unit sets (since I am doing it entirely from scratch rather than using a bunch of modules, which is partially what I think is using up so much memory) is going to take a lot of time, the rest should be pretty simple though.

I was thinking of putting up a Puerto Rico preview in the next few days, but I think I'm going to be a little bastard and let Madman wait for the final version so come out :p , that way it will be a surprise! I could change my mind though... we'll see...

I do think the Puerto Rican civ will be pretty cool, even if it doesn't really get used much. I am also considering leaving out certain civs in the deluxe edition of the mod. Like Puerto Rico, Haiti and maybe the Tuetonic Order. Mainly because they don't really have much of an historic purpose to being there. Haiti is nowhere near a powerful civ, the Tuetonic Order basically is not a civ and let's face it, Puerto Rico isn't even an independent nation. The only reason for doing this would be to keep the size of the mod down. But again, I'll probably change my mind on t hat as well.

I can't wait to see what Bakuel's celtic units look like by the way, I already have a really good set for the Vikings but we'll see how those look too. Plus the new LHs that I've made so far (Hitler and Hiawatha) look damn amazing to me, and I am looking forward to how the new LHs are going to look. I think this mod is going to be fantastic when I'm finished, and I'd like you guys to be a part of it since you've been so instrumental in my latest works. Thanks again everyone.

If you weren't against adding 2nd UUs, I'd suggest giving the Teutonic Knight to Germany. They could use an older UU.
Also, if you remove any civs from the deluxe edition, might want to look towards the east european nations. We've got a lot of tiny nations over there which don't really have a unique history seperate from when they were connected to another nation.
That's just me, though.

That damn Hitler! Always ruins our plans!

Again, I can help you make city lists for any civ you want in xml, just tell me which civs and I'll help you!

By the way, I've finished work on my Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan civs and once I have enough time I'll upload them for everybody to see! They even have UUs and UBs! I somehow reskinned two leaders from Civ Gold to make pretty lame, but recognizable Ablay Khan (for the Kazakhs) and Shaybani Khan (for the Uzbeks). I still hope that one day you or Ekmek or whoever can help me with better versions. And it wouldn't be bad to have Tamerlane too...

That's just you.:) Actually, Poland, Serbia, Hungary and Romania were very powerful countries in different eras. So was the (now) tiny Lithuania. And while you can say Ukraine was mostly a part of Russia, you shouldn't forget that Ukraine is also where Russia's history begins (Kievan Rus')!

There's still plenty of time to decide on which civs will make it in and which ones will not (if I even wind up doing that, I might just put them all in anyway). Although since all of the civs will be available as modular as well it won't really matter because you can add them in anyway if you wanted to.

On a somewhat related note, I was thinking of using this is the Irish UU model rather than the one I have now, what do you think?

Spoiler :

What do you think? The main reason for doing this is that the current model I use is just a reskinned Swordsman unit, and I don't think that is very "unique."

I like it.
