[BtS] "Extra"

@Some guy: All right, I took your suggestion and buffed Technocracy :).

@PreLynMax: I'm sorry, but I only want to add stuff that's (more or less) in official Civilization IV mods. I would very much like a prehistoric era too, but it's not available in any mods, I'm afraid :/.

Download "Extra" version 3.17d here!

Changes in 3.17d:
- Buffed the Technocracy civic (using Some guy & PreLynMax's suggestion)
- Buffed the Praetorian unit, because with the arrival of the Heavy Swordsman it was pretty much made obsolete

I noticed that several traits (Creative, Protective, Aggressive) got upgrades thanks to the additions from Next War. On top of this, I gave Industrious a production bonus for the Mining Facility, Expansive a production bonus for the Nutrition Facility, Aggressive a production bonus for the Military Fortress and Protective a production bonus for the Archery Range.

I thought the other traits could use some late-game buffs as well. So I gave Organized a production bonus for the Levee, Imperialist a production bonus for the Colony Ship and Financial a production bonus for the Stellar Market. This left me with three civics left: Philosophical, Charismatic and Spiritual. In order to give these traits minor bonuses, I added three new buildings from Final Frontier, the Academy of Knowledge, the School of Zealots and the Temple of Worship. You guessed it: Philosophical now gives a production bonus to the Academy, Charismatic a happiness bonus to the School and Spiritual a production bonus to the Temple. With these measures I hope to have balanced the traits a bit better.

Changes in 3.17e:
- Balanced most of the civics
- 3 new buildings:
* The Academy of Knowledge - from Final Frontier (BtS), completed it with a 3d model from this site
* The School of Zealots - from Final Frontier (BtS), completed it with a 3d model from this site
* The Temple of Worship - from Final Frontier (BtS), completed it with a 3d model from this site

Chiyu,
I just want to thank you for all your efforts. I enjoy the mod and appreciate all the thought you put into both the mod and others ideas and suggestions. Keep up the good work!

Did you forget to give the Romans "Light Swordsman"? I see that you have changed the Praetorians to replace "Heavy Swordsman". I have both ironworking and iron, but cannot see anywhere to build a "Light Swordsman". There's not even a grayed out picture of it anywhere.

Just wondering, why did you change it to "Light" swordsman instead of just leaving it?

Why did you also move the Praetorians into the medieval era. They are suppose to be the supreme of the ancient era.

I was very disapointed when I finally discovered iron working but could not create a Praetorian let alone a swordsman of any type.

update: I can't build Praetorians, only Heavy swordsmen. ???

edit: can you tell me which mod is the one that shows the attitude face beside a person's name?

I moved them to the medieval era because with the arrival of the Heavy Swordsman (which comes not too long after the Light Swordsman), I felt that the Praetorians hardly had any advantage. So now I made them a stronger Heavy Swordsman instead of a stronger Light Swordsman. Historically it's not correct, but gameplay wise it's a good solution.

Btw, this mod *should* show the attitude faces beside a person's name.

how do i fix the blobs???

EDIT: can you tell me the proper way to install this mod? i think i messed something up.

Ok here's what you do. Uninstall the mod, and reinstall the mod. Somehow, someway you kinda screwed up the installation. That should help with the blobs.

You don't need to play 40 civs? I started to play 40 civs lately, and it's HARD. Even in the pre-Noble difficulty... and complicated.

Prepare to get your ass handed to you... and try to get at least 4-5 cities. Seriously.

Do we need pre- 3.17 versions to use version e?

What speed/difficulty is this reccomended on? I want to really enjoy all the technology and take my time with it. I am thinking Marathon.

I highly recommend Marathon, because of the time you could have to build your ecomony... or military... or something.

I usually want to hurry up and get to post-modern era so I can launch multiple capital units internationally (and you can load two Dreadnaughts and four Assault Mechs on a single Colony Ship, and still have enough room for 2-4 more units).

When I play on noble (my normal difficulty) and Marathon, before 0AD I have triple the points of the other empires and have far outstripped them. This is in part due to always getting Pyramids (allowing me early access to Governments) and possibly having industrious because Wonders really are very powerful.

Is that normal? I am not a supra-genius at the game, so I am not expecting that I would be so far ahead of the other empires. I went ahead and quit despite having an awesome empire, because I was way too ahead.

I love this mod concept, which is really a lot of options and wonders and stuff, but I am finding perhaps some flaw.

Is the concept of this mod to use just the stuff Firaxis gave us in official mods? If so, do you have any plans to put anything from Colonisation into it, such as Marsh Terrain or the Looter promotion?

If that's the case, then I suggest increasing your difficulty to Prince, or in your case, Monarch (or maybe even Emperor), and see if that goes.

I even tried Deity on this mod (I'm usually play on Emperor/Immortal diffiuclty), and I got owned.

Yes, there are a lot of new leaders and things in Colonization. More extra stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the best mod

Ehm... I know, I am silly, but I donno how to instill mods.
I just tried to extract its folder into the mods and -Ciuv4customMods folders, but when I try to play it I do not find it in the game options...

what is wrog?

Hi everyone !

Please can you help me ?
I'm new and I don't know how to play with this mod. I have extracted the "extra" folder, but i don't know how to launch it.
Should I just put it in mod folder and then just launch it from the civ menu as every other mod ?

Thank you very much !

@ honeysword & Behi
In order to play a mod, you must put it your C://Program Files/Fraxis/Civlization 4/Beyond The Sword/Mods/ folder if you want to play a mod. That's the only place you can load mods from BTS.

Yes, you can launch it from the Civ menu or you can create a direct link from the desktop (dunno how to do that).

Here's how to get it to run automatically.

Find Civilization4.ini (there's a link already in your Civ4 BTS directory), open it with notepad and change this line to look like this

; Specify a Mod folder (Mods\Mesopotamia), '0' for none
Mod = Extra
