[BtS] "Extra"

Will you consider adding Varietas Delectat to your mod for the extra flavor unit graphics?

Has it occurred to anybody that perhaps Chiyu dear fellow is AWOL precisely because he is updating this Mod?

Fortunately for me, my Custom Assets were not affected by the 3.13 patch, but it still took me a day just to go through and verify. And my Assets are minor compared to the "Extra" Mod.

It seems to me that by the 2.9.1, a great deal of material is present. Material that cannot be updated in just a few days. It took the man two months to get to the latest version as it is. With the changes in 3.13 extending beyond the CVcoreDLL to the XML and even Python, including the XML of individual official scenarios, I imagine that he pretty much has to go back and replace everything. Or hunt and peck through the material that isn't changed for the material that is.

This includes all of the sub-mods he's inserted. All of those have to be updated, and possibly by their creators. And speaking of units, there are quite a few in this rendition of the game. Consider that Chiyu reports that it sometimes takes a long time to transfer unit data from another scenario.

Then there's the balance issues. He's probably going to play a few 3.13 vanilla games just to experience the new effects. Notice that the guy disappeared right around the time this patch came out.

Patience, grasshoppers. We may yet hear from the originator by, oh, Halloween, perhaps early November. Anybody who is up to updating this mod on their own is probably in for weeks of work.

One interesting idea is the "Worlds Tallest Building" which should emerge around the time of the industrial revolution. When you build this national mod until another country builds one, you get a special economic/culture bonus.

When another nation builds this wonder, the flag for this achievment goes to them.

Dubai is about to complete the latest 'tallest' building long since eclipsing the Empire State Building. Countries seem to compete with this wonder.

I think the national wonder should continue to cost the exact same amount to build, because presumably building techniques and engineering ability continue to evolve to do more with less. (also just to make it simple to add)

Hey all,

Sorry for not replying earlier. I've been busy with a number of other projects, and just when I thought I could start working on the new version, the flu got me so I was out for another week. Thanks for your patience.

Anyway, the best approach I can think of is to start over from scratch and re-add all the features that I want to keep, and modify them if possible. This gives me a good opportunity to look carefully at the balance as well, and it will keep bugs to a minimum! Maybe I'll add a few new units/buildings/technologies along the way too. As promised, unique units for all civilizations will be added as well.

This is also a good opportunity for others to give criticism or feedback on the existing features and say which they would like to see changed or removed (don't talk about adding new features please, cut me some slack :p).
I understood that for example, people would rather see the Theatre of Dionysus give no unhappiness in one city instead of giving two artists. Maybe there's more?

In the next reply, I'll post a list of all current features (sorted thematically instead of by version), so people can easily reflect on them.

Hi. I really like what you have with Extra, in fact I begged Marnz to patch it up to 3.13 while you were out!

A 2nd UU would be nice and maybe incorporating Varietas mod. I like the Raider units hidden nationality but they seem a bit weak, by the time I can build them they are no match for the AI's defenses at all.

But I don't think you have to change much if anything! I think Theatre of Dionysus is fine as is, there's already a national wonder for the no unhappiness thing, sometimes it's nice to have a city that can pump out more culture (extra artists) to help force back the neighbors borders. Thanks again for Extra

Pending features for 3.0:
(note: features in red are the features I'm not satisfied with in their current form, either because they may be overpowered or just don't really add anything original, so any comments on the way they should be implemented would be nice!)

- Fixed the AGG/PRO traits so they work for Clone units as well.

Chiyu, welcome back. :goodjob:

This mod has been my favorite for a while, but I would to know if it would be possible to get an updated version of this mod with just the stuff from Next War only and the following modcomps:

- Porges' Attitude Icons modcomp
- GeoModder's Ethnic City Styles modcomp
- Avain's Varietas Delectat modcomp

Yes, I'm too lazy to do it myself. :p

Looks great, glad to see your back!

One questions though, is this version of Extra going to support the BtS 3.13 patch?

As for units and buildings:
Theatre of Dionysus- What if you just made this another Globe Theatre? I think that would be most relevant.
Leaning Tower- I think this is relevant but WAY overpowered. Make it a cheaper Wonder that has only a few benefits such as +20% to the city's culture and + 2 great engineer.
Supply Train- I actually like this idea so long as it has more modern equivalents (ex. supply trucks)

Also, I was thinking what if infantry turned into Clone Troopers instead of Mechanized Infantry and then stopped there. Maybe give them some sort of a buff to make them better (more defensive). I just think that there should always be infantry and that they shouldn't just turn into tanks...

Any ETA on release?

I disagree on the tower. I think it's fine. Consider that the pyramids add +3beakers per specialist, consider what the Great Library does, etc--it's a great wonder, but not overpowered in the context It's NOT filler, but I like that.

Still great work Chiyu! It´s still my favorite Mod for Civ4.
One big request.
Could you add or make a new gamespeed mod? I have the feeling, that with all those great additions the first 4000 years are to fast over. A slightly rebalance of that period would be cool and the player could benefit from the units/buildings much longer. :)

Starting over from scratch is probably best.

Not to slam on anybody, but either the patch provided by bmarz is buggy, or it's included bhruic .dll is buggy. Either way, I'm getting constant CTD's, which is not happening in my vanilla 3.13 games.

I second that the raider needs to be upgunned a bit, since he is too easily defeated by the AI once unlocked. A strength between 6 and 8 seems more reasonable to me.

I second that there ought to be a modernized flavor of the Supply Train.

I don't like the way the Hand Cannon is implemented either. It could be made into another national unit, with a cap of 3. I'm also curious if there isn't a relevant wonder that could be associated with them, as with the pikemen and the Apostlic Palace, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

I think the wonders are okay, except I don't like Big Ben acting as a glorified grain silo. It should provide a minor boost to production, commerce, and perhaps +1 food in the city it is built in, to reflect it as a productivity chronometer.

I join the chorus which cries for a second unique unit for each civ. For example, I'd like to see the American civ get a Minuteman, with Guerilla promotions or something similarly appropriate; they would have a disadvantage against other gunpowder units on an open plain, but in forests or hills they would excell.
