[BTS] MarnzMod

I just checked my temple costs in game, 1.8f and they all cost the same, old and new.

Sword_o_G the file would be Buildinginfos in XML/Buildings

the line looks like this ,,

<iCost>80</iCost>

I noticed that for some reason the unique palace graphics were not showing up even though the files are present in Bmarnz's mod foldiers. So i did alittle checking and I managed to fix it somehow by pasting the building info from the ethnic artstyles mod. Heres the corrected file:

Huh, I specifically had
<iCost>80</iCost>
for the older religions and
<iCost>135</iCost>
for the newer religions' temples in my files. Also, I have had no trouble building the new holy city shrines, though the Amun-Ra one comes up with a solid purple window when I build it.

I'm using the straight up 1.8c mod, did you patch yours up to 1.8 or just download the 1.8c like I did?

Alkyon, you probably should install the 1.8f patch on the first page. its at the bottom of the original post

the temple costs were fixed in 1.8d patch, so that fix will be in the 1.8f patch

"MarnzMod v1.8d

Changed costs of new religious buildings to be equal with standard religions.
Changed The Scotts short description to Scotland.

MarnzMod v1.8e

Fixed non-english language bug.

MarnzMod v 1.8f
Fixes Roman maceman bug."

Hello all,

Great mod- but for the 1st time ever (playing since 05), I am experiencing an abrupt CTD and the error message is "Video Memory Failure" or "failed to allocate enough video memory"- the 3 times it happened there were no movies playing. I dropped the video graphics levels to low and it still happened.

Anyone have any ideas what I can do to solve this problem?

Thanks and Merry Christmas.

When do these occur? I've been having them at random as well.

may i use some of your stuff in my own mod? i'll be sure to credit you

I'm really enjoying this mod! It adds quite a lot to the game, and really seems much more balanced than other ModPacks I've tried.

That said, I've been playing it with some friends online and we're really pretty annoyed with the bug where the scoreboard disappears in multiplayer mode, but I have figured out a hacky solution:

Find the CvMainInterface.py file (it's in MarnzMod/Assets/Python/Screens/) and rename it to another extension (ie CvMainInterface.not). This will make Civ revert to the original CvMainInterface with a working (but not nearly as organized) scoreboard. It does seem to introduce a new strange bug, in that the turn advance button is always red and never green, but that's not quite as much of a show-stopper...

It would be wonderful if someone could find a way to fix the new scoreboard properly in multiplayer.

i don't know where Bmarnz is....I hope he comes back soon as I'd like additional content and updates for this mod..as its very good.

YEAH, he hasn't posted anything since 30 Nov???? Over a month ago, now!!

You may be able to help this by a couple of ways. 1) If you use Firefox as your browser, you should go to Windows Task Manager and 'End Process' Firefox. It is known for a large memory leak. 2) If you have any extra space on your hard drive you can jack-up the size of your page file. This will allow Windows to use more virtual memory to run the game. 3) If you are running Vista, God Bless. You will have to wait for the Microsoft geeks to fix it.

after making the mistake of switching to vista i stated getting Memory Allocation Failure errors. if you are using vista there is a fix from microsoft here

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=940105

i installed it and it seemed to help a little. saving the game often seems to lessen the amount of MAF errors also for some reason. i've also noticed that the maf errors happen more for me when i'm using non default maps. just finished a marnz mod game on a pangea map(default) with no errors

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. BTW, I'm running XP. It looks like ending the Firefox process is helping (at least they are less frequent). I don't know what you mean by "jacking-up the size of my page file", but I would like to try that as well.

Happy New Year!

Gonna cheat and cut&paste the info and give you the link.

How to manually manage computer memory
When your computer is running low on RAM, and you must have more RAM immediately, Windows uses hard disk space to simulate RAM. This is known as virtual memory. It is also known as the paging file. This is similar to the UNIX swapfile. By default, the virtual memory paging file (named pagefile.sys) that is created during installation is 1.5 times the RAM on your computer.

You can optimize virtual memory use by dividing the space between multiple drives and by removing space from slow or heavily accessed drives. To best optimize your virtual memory space, divide it among as many physical hard drives as possible. When you select drives, follow these guidelines:
• Try to avoid having a paging file on the same drive as the system files.
• Avoid putting a paging file on a fault-tolerant drive such as a mirrored volume or a RAID-5 volume. Paging files do not require fault-tolerance, and some fault-tolerant computers experience slow data writes because they write data to multiple locations.
• Do not put multiple paging files on different partitions on the same physical disk drive.
How to manually change the size of the virtual memory paging file
You must be logged on as an administrator or as a member of the Administrators group to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure.
1. Click Start, click Run, and then type sysdm.cpl in the Open box.
2. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Performance.
3. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Change under Virtual memory.
4. Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file that you want to change.
5. Under Paging file size for selected drive, click Custom size, type a new paging file size in megabytes (MB) in the Initial size (MB) or Maximum size (MB) box, and then click Set.
If you decrease the size of either the initial or maximum paging file settings, you must restart your computer to see the effects of those changes. When you increase the paging file size, you typically do not have to restart your computer.

Notes
• To have Windows select the best paging file size, click System managed size. The recommended minimum size is equivalent to 1.5 times the RAM on your computer, and 3 times that figure for the maximum size. For example, if you have 256 MB of RAM, the minimum size is 384 MB, and the maximum size is 1152 MB.
• For best performance, do not set the initial size to less than the minimum recommended size under Total paging file size for all drives. The recommended size is equivalent to 1.5 times the RAM on your computer. It is good practice to leave the paging file at its recommended size. However, you may increase its size if you frequently use programs that use much memory.
• To delete a paging file, set both the initial size and the maximum size to zero, or click No paging file. We strongly recommend that you do not disable or delete the paging file.
How to manually optimize the memory usage
You can optimize your computer's memory usage. If you use your computer primarily as a workstation instead of as a server, you can devote more memory to your programs. Your programs will work faster and your system cache size will remain the default size that came with Windows XP. You can also set aside more computer memory for a larger system cache if your computer is used primarily as a server, or if you use programs that require a larger cache.
1. Click Start, click Run, and then type sysdm.cpl in the Open box.
2. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Performance.
3. Click the Advanced tab, and then use one of the following methods under Memory usage:
• Click Programs if you use your computer primarily as a workstation instead of as a server. This option allocates more memory to your programs.
• Click System cache if your computer is used primarily as a server or if you use programs that use a larger cache.

This is a biggie.....
• Try to avoid having a paging file on the same drive as the system files.

Loaded MarnzMod for the first time, and noticed it was EXTREMELY slow on load-up, even though the quality of the Mod is great. So I used pakbuild to pak all the art files together and the load time went from about 2 mins to 20 seconds. Was going to share it, but the file is over 500megs.

alerum68, thanks for mentioning using pakbuild to pak the art files. i finally tried it. here is an explaination on how to use pakbuild

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=136023&page=3

post 45 by Wolfshanze has instructions even i was able to follow. i used the xp version of pakbuild from the link in the first post of that thread. after a little fuddling around i was able to do it even though i'm using vista as my os.

alerum68 was right the mod does load faster. now i can spend more time playing this very nice mod :)

I have a fix for the broken scoreboard in multiplayer mode! It was the way the turn-over star was being added to the score string, which was somehow breaking the entire scoreboard. My fix adds the star to the player name instead, which seems to work.

Download Here

Extract the CvMainInterface.py file and put it into Mods/MarnzMod/Assets/Python/Screens/.

Marnz, if you ever come back, please feel free to include this fix in the next patch.
