[BtS MOD] Wolfshanze 1850-1920 Enhancement Mod v2.0

What about just upgrading all wooden ships belonging to a civ to iornclads for the first civ that gets steam rather than just getting a free unit?

That would be insanely overpowered and complicated.

Could random ship in coastal waters being upgraded work?, or Coastal ship closest to capital?

If you don't have you you're out of luck.

It wouldn't be that overpowered, I mean say you have 15 ships (I might have 2 if I'm lucky) - that would cost a few thousand gold to upgrade. This is the equivalent of getting a free tech with liberalism (time spent researching the free tech could earn you the gold).

But it would be complicated to mod, I guess.

Assuming I wanted to do it (which I don't anyways), how to make it happen would be far behind my intermediate understanding of XML/Python (and zero-understanding of SDK). I'm sure something like that would be far more involved then a simple XML tag being altered.

Nope... I'll look-into a free Ironclad, but even with that, I don't think it will work well (the whole capital/ocean thing).

Would the free upgrade on warship closest to capital work (maybe limit to Ship of Line or Frigate?)

I simply don't forsee any "free upgrade" anything coming soon... I don't think there's anything pre-built for that in-game that I could easily tweak in XML. About the best I could do is a free-unit, but like I've said before, that may be troublesome with a naval unit.

Did you mean Router Amphibolous? :D

All of the leaderheads dont work on my comp. it gets CTD if i pick example: hitler. :( (this happends with this spesific hitler leaderhead in all mods i try)

At least its better than the free Ironclad idea. I'm totaly NOT in favor of that. Steam Engines were used mainly to propel machinery in wool-factories after their invention and this would start the industrial revolution.Since the early 18th century steam power has been set to a variety of practical uses. At first it was applied to reciprocating pumps, but from the 1780s rotative engines (i.e. those converting reciprocating motion into rotary motion) began to appear, driving factory machinery.

"At the turn of the 19th century, steam-powered transport on both sea and land began to make its appearance becoming ever more predominant as the century progressed. "

The Steam Boats / Ironclads didnot appear a 100 years after the the steam engines were already used in factories, according to the Wikipedia article. I see therefore no correlation between inventing a steam engine and getting a free ironclad.
If you have to give something, give a free engeneer-specialist (not great engineer, but directly a specialist in the capital). Or a free factory, but that would not be possible to make modwise I guess. My opnion: no gift for the Steam Engine-tech.

And I like the early flying machine!

I wouldn't worry too much in any case... I don't think the "free Ironclad" idea would work anyways without a major overhaul that I'm not willing to do in the first place.

I've still yet to check-it's feasibility just for gee-whiz info, but I'm sure it wouldn't work anyways, so this is more an academic thought-tossing competition then something actually likely to get incorporated into the mod.

But the free Early Flyers will definately stay! :groucho:

It would be pointless to mass produce the early flyer given the combat and tech scale, so it's intentionally a novelty.

Just for a change of pace, how do you get the BUG mod to work properly in the wolfhanze mod, I have BUG installed as a custom asset but not all the features work in the Wolfhanze mod. Any ideas?

are there any noted problems using this mod with bug / blue marble, i've followed the instructions and although it says i'm playing with the mod there are no extra units or leaders.
