[BtS MOD] Wolfshanze 1850-1920 Enhancement Mod v2.0

Civ being Civ & being a Brit i think it will have to be The Grand Fleet :D I will leave the Great White Fleet to my American friends.
Ah yes... the Grand Fleet... well... the HMS Canopus class is in there, so build plenty of Pre-Dreadnoughts!

I'd have to say England is up there for the most customized units in the game... I really love the English ships and those Industrial-era English units (Rifleman, Cavalry, etc, etc).

Just started my first game and love is so far. This is just what the doctor ordered. Is this something that I can merge with Revolutions? Mind you I have no idea how to do that Im just askin.
Maybe... but merging mods ain't my forte' either. :dunno:

Yeah ideal for slapping some zulus around !!! Now thats a good scenario British African campaign. Ahh the old Colonial feelings are resurfacing. Thanks again for the Mod. Must get back to work though. Sigh.

Watch-out for the Zulus... they have lots of custom units too... and they don't like English Riflemen!

Any chance of adding in the different city styles like in Veritas Delctat? I love everything about this mod...the flags alone make the game a million times better, but the units are great too (although, personally i'm more of a fan of more "what if" style things....specifically, the Romans....I hate how they just...switch to Italians out of nowhere. That's one thing I liked better about veritas delectat....Roman Rifleman still had plumed helmets and Segmenta.)

I love the mod, though.

As a note, the submarine and the supercarrier are both listed as just plain "naval units", just in case if you did not mean for them to be listed as such.

@Wolfshanze: I have posted that suggestion somewhere else but you probably didnt see it (it was supposed to go into that thread anyways)
Would you consider adding one more unit to either dreadnought or pre-dreadnought era? I was thinking of a PERFECT addition: Commerce Raider - just like German commerce raiders from WW1 and WW2. That would provide players with modern times "privateers" and would certainly add a lot to the gameplay and strategy later on in the game.
Now, they were originally just auxiliary cruisers or armed merchants armed with guns up to 5 inches so they shouldnt be too powerful I would say something along the lines of protected cruiser? Maybe 20 power 4 or 5 movement? Also starts with Drill 1 - they were disguised as merchant ships and had their ship markings removed or swapped to hide their identity.
What do you think?
Too bad I am not skilled with graphics or I would just provide you with a ready to use model to implement in the mod ;-)

It's intentional not an oversite... Transports, Diesel-Electric Submarines, Carriers & Supercarriers are all in the "Naval Units" category... it's a non-bonus category for units that either span multi-generations or really don't deserve certain types of combat bonuses (for or against).

May not be a bad idea... I'll have to look into that when I get some time... if that were done, the correct model to use would actually be the same as a transport.

Well if there is no one who could make the model for a Commerce Raider the nI guess that transport will work as well - the main point is to add another feature to modern warfare and easthetics can wait.
Thought what kind of promotion it could start with but naval ones are limited so probably Drill would be the coolest one giving the ship first strike chance (emulating the surprise factor)
Anyways, thanks for listening and jsut in case I haven't said that already great job on the mod!

Exactly what would you make the modern commerce raider look like? A warship? All the German Auxiliary Cruisers of WWII were literally armed merchantships... not purpose-built warships. There is no differance from a standard transport to an auxiliary cruiser, other then hidden guns!

Well Wolfshanze you are EXACTLY CORRECT - couldnt agree more with you there is only one thing thats I dont like about leaving them with a standard civ4 transport graphics. Civ4 transport ship IS NOT a transport in my opinion, it looks like a military landing ship (correct me if I am wrong maybe it is just my eyes hehe) and what I would like to see there would be regular civilian freighter/transport etc...
Maybe a slightly modified dreadnought would do? I am not trying to argue but rather try to help improve the mod I enjoy so much :goodjob:

EDIT: and of course you are right about auxiliary cruisers - all of them (not only German) were civilian freighters/liners taken over by the navy with strenghtened decks to support the turrets so they posed little threat to military vessels...

Yeah the "transport" graphics should really be more like a Liberty ship.

That would also do for an armed merchant raider (though it shouldn't be too hard to edit it to add a deck gun or something).

Wodan

Gee... and after all this time and all the responses and downloads, I thought people were actually playing the Wolfshanze Mod.

It would seem nobody is... because if von Krysiak and Wodan were playing the Wolfshanze Mod, they'd both know that I do use a Liberty Ship for the standard Civ4 transport in the Wolfshanze Mod!

Tell that to the crew of the light cruiser HMAS Sydney...

First of: Thanks for the effort you put into the Mod ...

But one question: Is there any "Age of Imperialism" Scenario planned for this mod? Because it would be, I think, the ideal platform for such a scenario (something like the "Earth 1862 AD" by Lokolus).

Haven't really put much thought into a special scenario... I'd say no for this time, but maybe sometime down the future (or if someone wanted to make one using the mod).

hehe, well Liberty ships were not used as commerce raiders - they were jsut heavily (especially later on in the war) armed mass produced modular transports.
What I was saying that it would be nice to have a ship that looks like an old type freighter etc
Now talking about HMAS Sydney it is a bit different story they made a HUGE mistake of getting to close to a suspicious ship so German small caliber canons were quite useful at that range. All there is, from longer distance there would be no talk of any kind of exchange of fire between Sydney and Cormoran (think that was the name right?)
When we are on the subject I will go a bit further off topic and say: my favourite story of an Auxiliary Cruiser was the one of HMS Rawalpindi, armed liner that engaged both Scharnhorst and Gneisenau with its 5 inch canons...

Oh and finally to reply to your allegations - I have even started a multiplayer game with your mod and after about 20 hours we are in the reneissance era already, 4 of us playing and tonite after work we are about to continue :crazyeye:

EDIT: Apologies for atrocious spelling and chaotic post all together...

No Liberty Ships weren't... however they are the largest single-class mass-produced ship of any design ever to be produced in history... so I'd say it's fair to say if Civ4 is going to represent a modern transport, the Liberty ship isn't a bad one to use as a model... and if the purpose of a commerce raider is to look like the average modern transport, and Civ4 uses only one model...

I'm not opposed to someone making a model of say... the Kormoran... but simply put, if one were to make a "modern privateer" in the guise of a commerce raider, it's hardly "wrong" to use the existing transport model... so long as one knows which transport model is used in the Wolfshanze mod! ;)

The KMS Kormoran sported six 5.9" guns... that's not really much differant then the eight 6" guns of the HMAS Sydney... those are, in-fact the same calibre of guns found on any German light cruiser. The Kormoran (and most other auxiliary cruisers) had neither the speed nor the armor of a cruiser, but certainly packed the offensive punch of a small light cruiser... including a battery of torpedo tubes.

Oh, and at a quick glance, I wouldn't say the actual Kormoran looked a whole lot differant then a liberty ship... certainly wasn't one, but it sure looks more like a liberty ship then any other ship model currently available for Civ4.

Good for you... and good to know people use the mod in multi-player mode! You using v2.6 or an earlier version?

I am using 2.6 version and we have 4 computers setup in one room so you can probably imagine that it is pure fun. I have decided to give it a try and restore the Third Reich to its former glory so cant wait to get to Industrial Era units!
One thing to mention we have found a CTD last night - it was linked to barbarian uprising event, Genghis Khan. It happened at two different occasions but we were able to load game few turns earlier to go around it - just thought you would like to know.

Oh, and I promise I will not argue about Aux Ships any mroe as we tend to get carried away off the subject of your mod

One last thing, would it be possible to create a subforum for the mod as it is done on most forums? I think your mod would definitely need one because if we keep everything in one post:
(bug reports/ideas/requests/praises/threats/junk/junk/junk) it will get quite messy ;-)
