[BtS] Star Trek Mod

I just downloaded it for my wife.
She's looking at the DS9 Scenario.
Great job. :goodjob:

I have tried to put the files it the places you suggested either I am not doing it right or something else is messed up when ever I load up mod I don't have an option to play a scenario or a game it just goes to world builder and when I try the individual maps under the DS9 map it loads but the map is pink and some of the other graphics making it unplayable. Would would you do to fix it uninstall everything and start over or what do you think I should do I love star trek and Civ and been waiting for someone smart enough like you to make a mod like this thank you for your time.

Hi, to help people who can't get it to work.
(I didn't get your game to work until last night, and it looks real good playing it now!)

I put the 3 FPK files in
D:\Games\Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Assets

the folders in
D:\Games\Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods

the sounds in
D:\Games\Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Assets\Sounds

Hope that helps.

Ps.
"D:\Games\Civilization 4" is the location I installed civ 4

I put the 3 FPK files in
D:\Games\Civilization 4\Assets
and also in D:\Games\Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Assets
(cant remember wich location of the two is necessary)

the folders in
D:\Games\Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods

the sounds in
D:\Games\Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Assets\Sounds

Hope that helps.

Hm, while this might work, going by just about any other mod, I would expect the following structure

D:\Games\Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods\StarTrek\Assets for the FPKs
D:\Games\Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods\StarTrek\Assets\Sounds for the sounds

assuming 'StarTrek' is the dir into which the original mod gets extracted (have not installed it yet, so I do not know)

No mod should have files placed outside its subdirectory underneath Mods. So I would rather try my proposal and only if that fails you might want to consider moving mod files to regular BtS dirs.

I got it to work by following your directions. So thank you I am a big Trekkie and Love Civ so this should be fun thanks again:D

Well, how would you make the scenarios (which require their own tech trees, civs, leaders, and units in addition to the map)? To do them I had to duplicate the entire mod at least five times, and since they share the art/should I have them get put in Assets/customAssets (packed art is not loaded from customAssets) to save on space (the mod would be over a two gigabytes in size if I didn't).

Placing the stuff in the Star Trek mod folder will make it work with the main mod, but it will not work for the scenarios in this configuration. Unfortunately civ's lack of support for "parent mod" functionality means that I have to make the install process complicated.

Hm, as I said I never tried this mod, but if the scenarios indeed have their own tech tree, civs and leaders (i.e. different from the mod itself) then yes, chances are you need to either treat them as an own mod (thereby copying the art and sounds) or copy the art and sounds to the BtS folders.

Personally I still would do the former, HD space is cheap and I still do not want to put stuff in BtS dirs, but at least in this case your approach makes sense ;)

I am used to scenarios being different maps, not a different mod altogether :D

Actually my main concern was download size. I have the sounds go in customAssets (this way they are easier to distinguish from the regular civ stuff) and the art in Assets (it's three .fpk files, so it's very easy to tell that it's not with regular civ). I took care to make sure that both didn't affect regular civ in any way (which means that some art/sounds are duplicated). Oddly one area where civ does allow you to use art from other mod folders is the theme, so I didn't include it in the download at all (it's identical to Final Frontier's so I just use that).

i have this installed in the mods folder and have civ patched but when i load it everything is pink and then it crashes the scenarios i cant load

Everytime I try to play I get an misc xml terrain error. Does Do you know what could be causing that?

I started playing this MOD. First of all great work. This makes CIV4 look like an whole other game.
I wanted to start playing ST TOS but I have some issues. When I start the basic new game I can't. I have to play a scenario. The scenario seems to start at turn 108 (not the scenarios pre made but 1 custom made by me). Is this right? And for some reason I cannot find the tech tree? Where did it go?

The ST TOS is not a full separate mod. It is a mod constructed specifically for a couple scenarios (The Undiscovered Country and Errand of Mercy) and is not intended to play separately. The only scenarios with tech trees are the 22nd Century and the Earth-Romulan War, though DS9 does have techs assigned on certain turns for some civs.

finally got a new computer and the mod loaded properly and it is great good work on it. I cant' wait to see the one you said you were working on for the upgrade. keep me informed I know alot about star trek have been a fan for 30 years of my 34years. This is my favorite computer game so it's awesome what you have done to join my favorite t.v. and movie series into my favorite game. Thanks for your work on this let me know if you want any feed back or player testing or updates with the one you are working on. I would love to help any way I can.
Thanks, again
My friend,

This mod is hosted on File Front, which is going away soon. Is anybody going to put it somewhere else?
