It's good that you've tried to consult the Japanese law. I don't know about copies sold in China, but the copies sold in the UK come with a license agreement that says the users are not allowed to make any copy of the program, including artworks, other than for backup. The user would have to have agreed to this license terms before they can install the program. Did you not have to agree to such terms to install your copy of Koei's ROTK?

Rather than historical victories per se, how about quests that offer substantial rewards if you alter the course of history?

For example, a quest which gives Liu Bei a great advantage if he takes and controls Yi Ling for 25 turns. Adavantages could range from great generals, hero units or special units only available upon completion of the quest.

I realise this may be difficult to balance out however.

Really glad to hear that you have other scenarios in the pipeline, I can't wait to play them :D

The problem with UHV is that quests are often dependent on the specific map. But Rhye has come up with at least partial solutions in RFC RAND. Controlling resources and land, and getting vassals/defensive pacts, for example, don't require a specific map.

The quest idea is good but still won't allow certain civs to win (Shan Yue anyone?).

    awesome mod! :goodjob:

regarding the question of food supply:
This concept is different from medic promotion, because w/o food, units lose health and cannot heal outside own territory. Food supply then become very important.

Right now, a lot of civics are just plain useless. Some suggestions:

--Imperial Academy which is almost one of the last techs should be placed earlier so that bureaucracy (which it replaces) is viable.
--Once you have Agrarian colony, it doesn't really make sense to switch to Land Preocccupied or Independent Farmer (losing those precious hammers), because with enough time and tech, your population will grow enough, and the techs that enable these are too late.
    --Who uses Purchasing?!
--Legalism and Power sound OK but I've never used them...I usually start with Confucianism, then switch to Mohism for science once I've developed enough land, and then maybe to Taoism if I'm gunning for large populations without unhealthiness. The fact that these 2 are the only high maintenance civics doesn't help either.
--both Specialised School and State Education should be medium maintenance

Does anybody else feel that Cao Cao is a little too powerful?

I know the natural inclination is to consider Wei as the alpha male considring they are the eventual winners but when you get to the halfway point Cao Cao is virtually unassailable. Diplomacy with him is also a nightmare. Its important to rememeber that at this point, although Cao Cao had risen to a certain amount of power he was far from allmighty. There was a very real chance that he could have been wiped out at Guan Du, or even earlier if it wasn't for my main man Cao Hong.

He seems to be the most intelligent of the AIs aswell if that makes any sense? I'm not sure if it his mix of traits but the way he uses his units is far beyond anything any of the other civs do (although I wll admit aside from Yuan Shao I have never really seen the other AIs do anything).

I agree that Cao Cao is too powerful, but as I said before, Yuan Shao can easily move most of his troops down and capture Guandu and beyond, and Yuan Shu can capture Qiao and Xuchang (and rescue the emperor) very early. When I played everybody else (Liu Biao, Liu Zhang, Li Jue), due to either lack of access to the Cao cities or lack of troops, I've just placated Cao and hope he attacks somebody else. Right now I'm playing Li Jue and Cao is still pleased with me (I even converted him briefly to Rebellion ).

Just like his music suggests, Cao has the personality of Augustus/Rome. You should be able to make him pleased if you open borders with him, trade something and war with Bai Bo or Lu Bo early on. If you can, switching to Reunion helps a lot too.

And I do agree, every other AI just botches their initial advantages (like Sun Ce who could have just conquered everything in sight just like in history).

Key is of course the Great Spy that the Great Wall gives you. Cao Cao was befriended and the only wars were against Ma Teng and Han Sui (both duly vassalized and squeezed to death at the end), and partitioning Zhang Xiu's lands with Cao Cao. I tried to keep my spontaneous vassals Yan Baihu and Wang Lang alive but Sun Ce was too strong, and the latter was hanging on just by a thread.

The UU (Personal Guard) is surprisingly strong (7 strength swordsman) and cheap. Mei Castle was, eh, meh.

I was surprised at the end that even Luoyang flipped to me (with Kunming Lake in it no less). The stupid AI doesn't realize that no state religion means they lose all their previous cultural buildings associated with their religion, and 50% more of something is more than 7 religions of nothing.

This reminds me of Dynasty Warriors. One of my other favorite games :)

....patiently waiting for Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires.....

DW 5: Empires was one of my favorites all-time on any console.

I'll have to give this a try sometime

    @Dave_Oz

I had the same problem. I managed to download the file using a download manager. The built-in Firefox download utility just didn't do though it has always been enough with other downloads many of them are much larger.

BTW I also had a trouble extracting the files as WinZip kept complaining about a strange file in Assets\Art\Structures\Buildings\HAI_SHANG_SI_LU folder. It appeared as a txt file though there is no need for such file there. To final get the mod to work I had to extract all other folders avoiding this one the selectively extracting the right file leaving the offending file alone.

We have checked ROTK11's end-user agreement and confirmed what you've said. Thanks for reminding us. We will remove all traces in our mod from that company as soon as possible.

I think it's a good idea and it is within the domain of event system. As you know, every new sub-systems not directly relating to heroes must wait until later.

I think the problem about Shan Yue is not that it's not possible to win, but it's not attractive enough for players to try it out. Is it?

So we need to build lots of food supply cart. It might require quite a lot of micro-management.

These feedback are priceless. Thanks a lot!

It might. But please keep in mind that Cao Cao's AI is nothing special comparing to all the other leaders. Nor is there any hidden beneficial modifiers.

Ah ha. Thanks for pointing this out. Our download is hosted on Google Code, so we took it for granted that it's reliable and compatible for all the major browsers. And there is a txt file that we forgot to delete in the art folder. It's really surprising to see winzip not handling it well though. These issues will be solved when we release the next version.

The first to go must be Lu Bu, because you really don't want Cao Cao to get the city next to you. Unfortunately your starting units aren't enough, so I wait until Cao pummels Lu Bu half dead and then I swoop in.

The next to go has to be Yuan Shu--his puny Private Guards are no match for even Xiandeng swordsmen and your unique unit, a modified combined crossbowman/catapult unit. His lands are too good to go to waste.

I was going to vassalize Chen peacefully when he declared war on my capitulated vassal Yuan Shu, well, so much for peace.

From then on it was just a matter of developing science which Liu Bei has a lot of because of his shrine. He also has the Babylonian rule of Law, i.e. all cities when captured, not only get free Revival, but have NO ANARCHY! Instant culture expansion helps a lot when you turn up the culture dialer. E.g., Mo Ling was flipped with no less than 4 (!) wonders in it including some national wonders that I haven't built yet.

    Spoiler :

Here's a bug where a friendly Cao Cao tried to offer me a captured Kong Rong city but I can't click anywhere to accept.

wow wow wow, wait just a sec. That artwork and stuff is also available for free all over the internet. RtkHeaven or whatever is just one site where all that artwork is there for free.

Unless Koei has come to you and complained you have nothing to worry about. You aint charging anyone for the use of this mod anyway. That makes it legal under US, UK and Australian law even if the artwork wasnt readily available on the internet.

Awesome. Please be our lawyer. RtKHeaven is not indexed by google, so please give us another example.

Still, you said 'unless KOEI has come to you', so it means even our action is legal, we still have to listen to the owner of the art (KOEI) if they want us to remove the art?

Let me ask Gun Urra just in case: are you by any chance from KOEI?:D
