'Super committee' fails to reach agreement

Washington (CNN) -- President Barack Obama and congressional leaders traded blame Monday for the failure of the congressional "super committee" to forge a deficit reduction deal, but they also called for Congress to work out an agreement before painful automatic budget cuts take place in 2013.

Earlier, the co-chairs of the bipartisan special joint committee said in a statement that "after months of hard work and intense deliberations, we have come to the conclusion today that it will not be possible to make any bipartisan agreement available to the public before the committee's deadline."

Rest of story HERE:

So the completely idiotic idea of a super committee to reach agreements when Congress can't has reached its entirely predictable outcome. Congress punted responsibility, and the country will pay the price.

I was deeply pissed off when this idea was passed in the first place. There was flat out no possibility of this ending well. So now that it has reached the predicted failure, it will likely tack another 1% on to the unemployment rate.

This will make things still worse for Obama by making things worse for all Americans. Which is clearly the plan.

Republicans will not pass any measure which is not class warfare. And the budget problem cannot be solved by crushing the middle class.

Nice job breaking it GOP. Now go to your room and think about why there's a low approval rate for Congress.

I'm ready to vote the bums out NOW!! (Though I am fortunate to have a democratic representative Courtney and Senator Richard Blumenthal from my state and district that I live in. Though I am not 100% sure if any of them are in the commite)

I'm waiting for Obama to say enough is enough and just pull out an executive order.

Thank you, Americans. Although you can do better, we really need to get the media distracted before their special attention sinks our Union. Throw in a constitutional crisis or something, that would be just perfect :goodjob:

"painful ... cuts"
Cuts in increases! It's not like anything is actually being cut, and calling it painful is just silly.

1% unemployment increase? Yeah, let's trust the guys that produced this:

Bipartisan effort circa 2008 or earlier. Perhaps that should be lack of effort.

Costs do go up on their own. Cutting "increases" means that real people get really less.

A mildly disappointing outcome but not exactly unexpected.

The incentives here are amusing. "Come up with a plan in two months or we'll cut your sacred cows...in 2013!!!"

Yeah, like that's gonna work.

The Republicans offered tax increases, the Democrats refused. At it's core the spending problem is about nothing other than entitlements. Pelosi made it clear entitlements were never on the table.

Republicans offering tax increases?! That's an oxymoron from a party that sees them as a plague. Unless it's adding more burden onto the poor and what's left of the middle classes.

I realize this is probably going to make your head explode, but the Republicans did indeed offer tax increases. Your hall of mirrors should now start craning down.

Not big surprise. Republicans don't like things getting done.

They did prove themselves to be completely out of touch by offering to raise taxes on the middle class and cut the capital gains tax.

Only to the poor and the middle class. They dare not raise taxes on their precious rich class, god forbid you race 0.01% of their taxes. Please, you're only making me laughing my butt off .

They're known as the party of no. It's not a big supprise on my end.

did you post this false information on purpose, or do you honestly not know?

Indeed, I really want to see where this came from. I haven't seen anyone, anywhere, reporting that this was offered.

EDIT: Found it: http://www.pbs.org/nbr/site/onair/transcripts/republicans_super_committee_tax_increases_111109/

The Republicans offered less of a tax increase than the one that will happen anyway.
