I realize this is in theory off-topic, but then, good information is key to good strategy!

I like to think I've done a reasonably good job of keeping my installationof BUG up-to-date, so I think all the new stuff that I've seen just at first sight really is quite new; but if not, apologies if I am ascribing some 3.5.x stuff to 3.6.

Here's some great stuff that jumps out at you right away (!) This was all stuff that I found without checking the changelog. :)

* Hate clicking sliders down 10 percent, waiting for lag, another ten percent, waiting for lag, another 10 percent...? Now you can jump straight to 0 or 100% in one click.

* Ever squint your mind's eye frustratedly trying to figure out if you are "5.1" turns away from the next tech, so to speak, or instead "5.9" (and at risk of getting an unexpected 1-turn delay if your output drops a couple beakers)? Now there are tick marks so you can see it visually.

* GG bar looks much nicer, with Mr. Cool Mustache Man on it instead of text. :P

* XP info for military builds on the F1 screen! Build color- and icon-coding by type!

* No more claustrophobia on the F1 screen!!

* New "will take peace" and "will capitulate" events for the Events log.

* New mil advisor screen sorting bells and whistles (or is this not new?)

* Religion advisor list dynamic updates when you hover over religions (or is this not new?)

* New field-of-view slider makes it more fun than ever to show off your empire to your preteen children

* Now automatically orders pizza for you online during the AI turn

Honorable mention (since it's less discoverable): dotmapping tool. I wouldn't have discovered it without having read about it in a thread, or at least browsed the BUG options. A shame, because it's awesome.

Now if only it would magically fix the continuing failure of my F1-screen customizations to "stick" between sessions... but that really *IS* off-topic for this forum. :-)

How do you use the dotmapping tool? I can't seem to find it...

Use Alt-X/Alt-F10 to bring up dotmapper, Ctrl-f10 for dotmap visibility
You can edit the CustomAssets\Config\StrategyOverlay.xml for the keys, it's at the bottom. Just change it what you want. I love it, makes settling SO much EASIER!

dotmapping was so handy I had to hand-add an early version to bug 3.5. Guess I should update to 3.6 at some point.

That's so much! I've been searching everywhere for it!

They really should tell that in the forums though...

Should be released very shortly, last I read they were adding it all together. You could always use the SVN updates
Bah, SVN is for wimps. Real modders add it themselves! :p

If wimps use SVN and i don't even know what SVN IS...what does that make me?

I really never understood why is it so many people need to dotmap, or what the big deal is? I just look at the terrain and I know...

A lot of people would rather just see it than know it, because it's usually quicker. Do you use the tile yield display? It's also possible to know the yields from what the tiles are but I hate playing without it.

I only do it because on (very rare) occasions I get it in my head that it will be fun to slam "alt-s" a bunch of times and put the letter c all over the territory surrounding my capitol. Then I get to show it off.

People who read my summaries are then forced to put up with pretty much every city I ever settle having a "c" tag sitting on top of it. I do get some form of perverse pleasure from that, but I try to indulge only infrequently.

Maybe most people just like the colors?

Signs were a hassle I rarely used. Using the dotmapper to slap down a bunch of cities, fatcross and all makes it convenient enough I use it all the time.

Same with a lot of other bug features. I never figured exact overflow for whipping, even though I know how, I just whipped whenever. With BUG, its easy to see that its the last turn to whip for overflow, so I get it right more often.

Basically, it lets me be both lazy and competitive at the same time. Automation is a glorious thing.

Dot mapping is fun, trying to most effecient way to claim the land and all the delicious food resources... it's not nessecary for me but it can be fun to organize my thoughts and plans that way from time to time.

Though I like doodling around on the map myself, not sure if I want to automate that. I'll check it out though.

Same to me..... The only times I dotmapped was to show other ppl what I had in mind

honestly i never use dotmap either...

The thing i was surprised in BUG3.6 it does inform when rivals found cities. Somehow i can't squeeze that out of normal info [at least not before writing]. May be i can switch that off...
