Bug Reporting

I chose to install BUG to the mod folder, instead of standard, but I suppose we really don't have any way of knowing if that helps. Thanks a lot, this looks better already. :)

Glad it worked for ya. Installing as a mod only is an issue if you want to send your saved game to someone who doesn't have BUG installed as a mod.

Seems I broke it again. :D I tried to install BAT mod, which promptly crashed on me once I loaded up a game, for whatever reason. Deciding I didn't want to bother figuring that out, I uninstalled, taking note of the message saying the bug files weren't uninstalled. So, I installed bug both standard and as a mod, then uninstalled, figuring this would clear out both. Then I installed again, and tried to start a game, and, boom, same problems as before.

Uninstalling/reinstalling hasn't fixed this one, however I have two ideas.

1) BTS is still looking for the BAT folder when it starts up, but says it ignores it. Maybe something is still left over.

2) BAT said to use the 3.00 BUG installer. I tried to install 3.0, but then looking through the folders and the zip there doesn't seem to be an uninstaller. Typo? Craziness?

This is kinda funny, and keeping me occupied. :D

BAT includes BUG, so you shouldn't try to mix the two or you'll cause problems. BAT is always installed as a mod, and two mods cannot interact, so the only problems will be caused when you do a standard install of BUG and any other mod as a mod.

First off, any games you started with BAT will not be playable unless you have BAT installed. Second, the same applies to BUG installed as a mod, but you can fool Civ4 in the case of BUG.

I recommend clearing everything out to get back to normal. Delete the BTS\CustomAssets folder and any BUG/BAT mod folders inside the BTS\Mods folder. Finally, delete the "BTS\BUG Mod" folder. This is what the installers do, and it's safe since you haven't installed any other mods.

Next, verify that BTS works. Just start a game and play a few turns.

Finally, install BAT 1.1 or BUG 3.5.1 as you like. Any time you are having trouble, it helps us if you post the contents of Logs\PythonErr.log.

Deleted the folders, and the game plays fine. Tried redownloading and installing BUG and same problems. :/

Here's the pythonerr(2)

Is there no PythonErr.log without a 2 in it? If not, what about PythonDbg.log? Are you installing now using Standard or as a Mod install?

Umm EF, could you please tell me how to turn on the error log??

I can't switch to glance after info.

I have no other mod installed. I installed via .exe-file.

I seem to have a faulty installation of civ 4 (I can't open saves of our current SGOTM game) so it might have something to do with it. I'll reinstall civ tomorrow, and will try accessing the glance/info before and afterwards the reinstallation.

@TWSqueaks and mystyfly - Turn on logging by editing the CivilizationIV.ini file in the My Games BTS folder:

Code:
; Enable the logging system
LoggingEnabled = 1

You might need to also hide Python exception popups:

Code:
; Set to 1 for no python exception popups
HidePythonExceptions = 1

After doing that, make the errors happen again, then look in the BTS\Logs folder for PythonErr.log (no 2) and PythonDbg.log. Post both.

@TWSqueaks - Are you still getting the same problem (no interface), or is it different now that you've reinstalled BUG?

I have warlords isntalled as well. And I think the patch is 1.61?

Eek, I should have paid closer attention to this part and your posted log file. Both BUG and BAT require the Beyond the Sword expansion (BTS is the B in both names). If you aren't going to get that expansion, I suggest using Ruff's Cobbled Modpack for Warlords 2.08.

BTW, 1.61 is the version of Vanilla Civ (no expansions). When you installed Warlords, it should have created a second shortcut. You'll see a warlord holding a sword sitting by a fire at the main menu. Make sure you update that to the latest patch (2.08) as well.

I'm surprised the BUG installer even installed without BTS. Perhaps you have BTS as well?

Yeah, I'm running BTS, would be a bit dumb otherwise. :D

I don't know if I've patched Warlords though, I will try that/logging.

Edit: I'm just reinstalling everything. Does BUG need Warlords?

Edit 2: Alright, uninstalled/deleted everything, then reinstalled civ, updated it, installed BTS, updated, and installed bug. Exact same problems as before... guess I'm stuck with Vanilla. :(

I found a little bug within the stategy layer:

Using the "Esc"-key while beeing in dotmapping mode will return the layer into normal mode, but the last cross remains where it had been, even though I didn't put a dot on the map.

Nice catch. I played with a few options to fix it, but nothing was satisfactory. Sadly, the only way to truly fix it is to remove the ability for ESC to exit edit mode, and that's what I've done. Note that you can exit edit mode by right-clicking a tile without a dot.

Impressive Mod- worked for me until new installation..

i've reinstalled CIV completely - after putting Blue Marble on it i installed the BUG Mod (standard installation) - then first time launching BTS 3.17 - customize game: no icons - never - neither the 'normal' (culture, food...) ones nor the attitude icons in the scoreboard.
i know that has something to do with the gamefont.tga and gamefont_75.tga - but i've done no changes at all..

i'Ve deinstalled BUG - reinstalled - but nevermore the icons appear..

any idea?? i can't imagine playing CIV without this mod.

thanks
Renegat

This has been reported a few times before, and reinstalling Civ4 from scratch has solved the problem so far. I haven't found a common thread. I think two of the three users that had the problem were using the German game, but I'm pretty sure one was using English.

Would you mind giving me some info on your installation? OS and language, Civ package (Standard, Gold, Complete), and anything else that might seem relevant? Thanks!

yes i'm using the german game - switching to english hasn't solved the problem.
i reinstalled in the meantime - no changes.

OS: Vista Home Premium (german)
CIV: Standard

i remember 2 months ago when i was using BUG i had similar issues, i can't cleary remember - but changing the gamefont.tga and gamefont_75.tga at several places resolved it.... but i don't have any pattern...

any clue?

thank you
Renegat

I installed BUG by itself and am giving it a go, living without the Regenerate Map option. This is probably a good thing, I think I do that too much sometimes; nevertheless, I hope a more holistic fix will be in the next version.

Aside from that I haven't seen any issues yet, but I'll report back here if I do.

Ah, here's a relatively minor one: sometimes when I zoom out (F11) and turn off the interface (Alt+I) to get a screenshot, the Great Person progress bar remains visible.
