Bug Reports Center

the game waits a few turns (I think 15) before checking for victory conditions - if you start without another player that will be conquest. So this is no bug in itself. How do you start a game and end up with no other players without knowing this beforehand?

Can you rephrase that question? not sure I understand what you mean.

Edit: New bug. If a random event occurs that involves two civs, (such as the collapsed politically arranged marrage thing) and you don't know one civ it still shows both names.

I think he means, how is it that you can win a conquest victory through being the only player in the game, without knowingly removing the AI players in the game setup screen in the first place? Being the only player in a game is not something that usually happens by accident, as far as I know it only occurs if you have purposefully set it up that way.

Thats what I meant :)
and the event thing is a bug indeed...

I have one very bad bug to report. I will be playing Civ 4, Civ 4 bts, or any game for that matter on my computer, and when the game is in the process of autosaving/saving, the game will crash back to the desktop with the message "Civ 4 has stopped working". My computer has 3 gb of RAM, 700 gb hard drive and quad core 2.4 GHz processor, so I think I can rule out hardware trouble. I am running the computer on Windows Vista Home Premium, and Norton Antivirus is also running in the background as well (liveupdate), so I'm thinking that either there is some memory allocation problem with Vista going on (seriously doubt it, this is going on for all of my games) or liveupdate or some sort of security thing is kicking me off the games. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

This sounds unlikely to be a bug with Civilization itself, but more a problem with possible software conflicts on your computer. Have you tried deactivating certain programs (like Norton) while you run Civilization?

"just to clarify: this issue is not limited to Civilization but rather happnes for more programs?"
Yes, this seems to happen with any game that I run on my computer.

I haven't tried doing this yet, I'll give it a try later on today.
Thanks,

Some more info that I forgot to give. When I'm playing civ 4 occassionally something will go wrong with the game intermittedly, and then, even if I load the game before the bug happened, at the exact same game date each time, the game will crash. I apologize if I was a little lax on the details before. I'm not great at explaining things. Also, it does seem that this crash event always happens in an autosave. A major problem is that this is not limited to Civ 4/bts/warlords. It happens with every game that I own, to the point that I used the fortunate option on one of my games to remove autosave. If only civ 4 had such an option, I could just use that for a quick fix. Another game crashes when I just plain old save, but it probably has encoding for saving similar to autosaves in civ 4 and the other game. Anyway, I figured if I could get help for Civ 4, it would solve more than just one problem. I know the problems with each of these games is actually the same problem. Anyway, thanks again.

as Lord Parkin pointed out: this is most likely an issue of something else than the game(s) - but as a hotfix:
open the civilizationIV.ini for each of the three games (civ4/warlords/bts) - there is one for either in a subdirectory of your my games folder
in this file change
AutoSaveInterval = 4
to
AutoSaveInterval = 0
to disable autosaving :)

I tried this, and the game automatically reset the value in play somehow, making it autosave anyway. I doublechekced to see if I actually saved the .ini file with the update, and it was saved with autosave interval at 0 beforehand, and after I played the game it was back to 4. Seems like there is some sort of bug within autosave to me.

Stange, I wound up doing that, the value didn't change, and yet still the game autosaved...
In any case, I took the liberty of reinstalling civ4 and will get back on if that worked (kept the save files). If that doesn't work the only thing I can think of is the save files being corrupted somehow.

Even after I reinstalled the game, which admittedly was a long shot, the bug still persists. This makes me think the the saved file got corrupted somehow, and the way it got corrupted might be something that is more universal (because this affects most games) and begins from a set time period (usually there is something like a wierd blip and a few autosaves later the gave crashes). I'm guessing that trying to fix the game isn't going to get me anywhere, you all are right; this does sound more and more like some sort of outside software trying to attack the game itself while its running (Norton Antivirus??). Could also be Windows itself; Vista seems to have problems with being too secure. Thanks again,

Hi 1stcontact,

I suggest you should do a complete check of your harddisk. And after that you should defragment it. This will give you the proof, that you can read and write to your harddisk without any problems. 2nd you should check your memory. Or get "SiSoft Sandra" for a full system check utility.

The other thing that ppl generally fail to recognize - is bad RAM. As well as previously noted, if the harddrive has badsectors and some of the gamefiles are located on those bad sectors, that can be issue too. Or the swap located with bad sectors - I imagine would wreak some pretty bad havoc if the HD couldn't reallocate them.

Please Help! Finally installed BtS & I get a fatal error: "Python Initialization Failed!"

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Unable to change difficulty in Custom Games?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Im unable to change my difficulty in custom games for the AI from Noble, was wondering if anyone else has this problem and if so how i can fix it, greatly appreciate any help.

the "noble" setting for the AI is misleading - their handicaps are governed by the player's difficulty settings... It is a design decision...
Yes - "noble" for the AI is always fixed. You can only change your difficulty in relation to the fixed AI noble setting.

Pericles doesn't appear to get a visible + diplomatic modifier when I run Representation. I'm not sure if it's a bug though - perhaps you have to be in Representation for a certain amount of time? But all of the other leaders seem to get an immediate +1 diplomatic boost when you switch to their favourite civic... :confused:
