Bug reports

A screenshot. The desktop turned to black, the small window is plain gray, both unusual.
I'm running W7 RC1
The CustomAsset is cleared yesterday.

The only way i can make this mod crash during the start up is by only using the 1.6.5 patch, without first applying the 1.6.1 game files.

that way you get the Crash during start up every time both in XP VISTA and WIN 7.

Thanks! Some users have also solved this problem by right-clicking on the shortcut and selecting "run as adminstrator". Fortunately negyvenketo is able to run DW now since he is playing in both succession games.

In the 1.7 release, coming in probably two weeks, we will have a new installer and setup which completely avoids the need to run as adminstrator. I am not sure there is any way we can prevent users from a crash when they install only the patch, but I will check.

Surely, if you only install 1.6.5 patch without 1.6.1, you should not be surprised about the mod crashing, because you are missing most of the core files, right?

1.6.5 patch = much smaller than the core mod, no?

Yes it is and that is also why it crashes during the start up the files are simply not there. I found this small error when my brother tried installing the MOD. he didn't read the installation instructions correctly.

I will try to debug why these spy missions are causing a crash. I have changed some behavior in the sdk for spies in 1.6.5, but it ""should"" only affect Reverend Mother units. Perhaps there is some side effect of my changes; this seems more likely than the other possibility, that some existing superspy bug has just surfaced twice.

I have found the problem. In order to know whether a mission is possible, my new code checks that the unit has the required promotion. Unfortunately, sometimes the game checks whether a mission is *theoretically* possible, without having a unit at hand. The crash comes when my new code tries to check if "no unit given" has a promotion.

I can avoid the crash with a one line change. But, to make a complete fix, I need to decide how the "theoretically possible" check should work without a unit. Suppose the game is considering whether an assassinate mission is possible. It is only possible if the unit dispatched has the poisoner promotion. But at this point, the AI does not have a specific unit in mind; so the mission may or may not be possible.

EDIT: fix posted here.

Game hangs in between turns.

Please confirm which version you are using. If 1.6.5, are you using the patch for the espionage crash? Which local changes have you applied, such as your leaderhead, culturelevel and tech files? This is important to make sure I can bring up your game in the same state.

Game hangs in between turns.

Unfortunately I am not able to reproduce this. In a new directory, I installed 1.6.1 then 1.6.5 then the espionage crash patch. I loaded your game and clicked "next turn". A status message goes by to say your peace treaty with Paul has expired, and then after a few seconds the turn finishes. I used "autoplay" to play 10 more turns and there was no hang.

If you load the game you posted, does it still hang? Or is there a step which I missed?

I'll test it again tonight, but yes, I tested it 3 times before posting from the save and got the hang every time.

I had to End Task civ 4 from the task manager (and it had stopped responding).

I got a game that crashes after 2 turns.

Is it doing the same for you? I patched to version 1.6.5 and added the fix that was posted for the music pack. I played a few hundreds turn without a crash to desktop before this game.

My local 1.6.5 also contains a fix which was posted at this link, to solve a common crash in 1.6.5 regarding infiltrator actions. When I load your save game into my local 1.6.5 and click "next turn" several times, it does not crash. So I believe this fix will also fix your problem. Please try that.

I am sure deliverator will comment on your music patch-patch.

Very strange. I tested again from the posted file, in case something weird had happened when I posted it. Again, I get the end of the peace treaty, and then the game hangs. Normally enemy turns take ~5-7 seconds, I have left the game hanging for ~2 minutes and it stays stuck.

The only think I can think of that is different is that I incrementally installed 1.6.2 through 1.6.5, but surely that shouldn't make a difference.

Stuck after you hit return...(and I was trying so hard to get a cultural victory, sigh)

Which exact version? 1.6.5 with the espionage crash patch?

Yes, in fact I had a crash shortly after the Fremen and Ecaz went to war which was fixed by the espionage crash patch.
