I wonder if this was a present from Aggie :hmm:

I suppose if there isn't much land, at least one civ is going to have a lousy start.

France, 350BC

MM for GA; I think we’re better off when we focus on infra during GA.
What are the war plans? Do we want to go for the Aztec core?
Tlaxcala is a really high flip risk; even if we replace it, it still may flip to Portugal, so I agree with not razing it.
Let’s see…Monty has absolutely nothing to offer, so I don’t think he can buy anyone against us. Getting a MA with Rome may be a good idea, though; will wait a few turns.
48gpt unit support is a bit much, I think I’ll join a few Workers.

Turn 1: 360AD
Portugal has Astronomy.
Move all healthy units out of Tlaxcala.
Portugal gives Furs for Incense and 2gpt (was thinking of holding our Incense back for Astronomy, but I feel safer with a per-turn deal)

Turn 2: 370AD

Turn 3: 380AD
Suicide our remote Galley, and yes, indeed it’s a Suicide run :(

Turn 4: 390AD
Sign MA against Aztecs with Caesar for 16gpt.
IBT: Tlaxcala deposes back, costing us a MDI and a Galley.

Turn 5: 400AD
Portugal knows Banking :eek:; noone else even has Astronomy.
Recapture Tlaxcala with no losses; this time Harbor and Barracks are destroyed :sad:
Sign RoP with Rome straight up.

Turn 6: 410AD
zzz…
IBT:
:D Witness the Aztecs wasting a nice stack of Attackers including 2 Crusaders against 2 Roman Muskets.
FWIW, Egypt and Netherlands sing a peace treaty.
Netherlands wants 100gp…gr. Cave.

Turn 7: 420AD
Rome has Astronomy as well; we could get it for our entire economy.
IBT:
Aztecs land some trash next to Tlaxcala

Turn 8: 430AD
Clearing out the trash costs us a Knight vs. a Spear, but also yields an elite Knight.
Land a mostly defensive stack on a mountain top in the Aztec core.
IBT:
That’s what I hoped for – Aztecs ignore the Musketeers :D.
Another small landing near Tlaxcala.

Turn 9: 440AD
Loose another Knight against a 2/3 Sword at Tlaxcala :mad:
IBT:
Lisbon completes Copernicus.
Aztecs ignore Musketeers on Hills as well.

Turn 10: 450AD
Rome has Banking as well. Would cost us about 2500gp and 30gpt.
Risk a safe steal for 1520gp, and [dance]

Rome1.jpg

Pick Banking. Usually the AI goes for Astronomy first, so we should be able to get that from the Dutch most likely soon.
Oh, Portuguese already have Demo.

The Save

NOTES:
*The Settler is either for replacing one of the Aztec Tundra towns, or could settle on the Forest 2W of Paris (would have a Whale after expansion).
*Rome lands occasionally troops S from our stack in Aztecia, maybe we can sweep in. I mostly landed the units to test if the Musketeers get attacked at all when stacked, and not even Crusaders attack them on Mountains.
*The Galley next to Tlaxcala cannot go S this turn because of Aztec Galleys (they all don’t attack, thus they should have the Naval Transport flag); maybe send it N instead.
*Don’t make any resource deals with Rome, the Aztec Galleys love to block the route.

set to Metal in 50 ??? - can get it down to 32turns with +40gpt

IBT - AZT & PER sign MA vrs PORT

Turn 5 - 500AD
our 2 knights in AZT land are not healing so I moved them onto the galley that dropped off another musket and treb

eKnight vrs 2/4 rSpear - we win and …….

Bugs3_02.jpg

vMusket vrs vLB - we win down 1hp and capture city with barracks, granary, market & aqueduct intact

unload a galley with a knight and musket into our new city / moved Great Leader and more troops into it also - some still have movement points to use this turn / wanted to make sure Army was proper use of the GL

Notes to next player
1) GL can be converted to army in preturn / my want to only load 2 units into the army so we can transport it with a caravel
2) we should be able to grab the next AZT city down the line, although Rome has sent galleys that way
3) I'd hit the AZT island as soon as we grab the next 2 cities
4) everybody except EGY is in at least 1 war

the 550AD Save

Well done gator! I have it. I should have it up in 24 hours or so.

Pre-flight – 550 AD – Create an army with Napoleon. Load it with the elite* knight and a vet knight. Rename it Gator’s Knights.

Monty will give us peace and two cities. Find we have a MA with Rome against the Aztecs, so we’ll hold off on that deal. Go back and review Gator’s log.

We are only down three techs to Portugal and even or ahead of everyone else. That is more than I could ever imagined at this point in time. Henry will not barter.

Our power curve is slowly increasing. Of more concern is the fact that Portugal’s curve is increasing fairly rapidly.

It appears that Persia and Egypt divided up the Iroquois nation. The Dutch now have an Egyptian city.

Our city management looks good. Gator has corrected rioting Orleans.

IBT – Monty drops off two units next to Texcoco.
Lyon: knight=>knight

1. 560 AD – Bombard and kill the crusader. Lose a knight to the LB, but kill it with a musketeer.
@ Tenochilan – Kill two defending spears with our army, which is redlined. Cover with two muskets.

IBT - Watch an Aztec archer leave Tenoch and die at the hands of an known defender (Roman?) We get the HE message. Two resisters in Texcoco are quelled and the city riots.
Reims, Besancon: knight=>knight
Tours: barracks=>knight
Henry completes Magellan’s. How appropriate.

2. 570 AD – Avignon gets a tax collector. Set up for Tenochilan next turn, including two new trebs that just arrived. We have a very long supply line. Our entire economy is a “doubt it” in getting Navigation, larceny enters my heart. We don’t have the cash yet for a safe steal, but soon. :mischief:

IBT – Henry wants to swap TMs. Find we can get another 8G out of him. We’ll save it for later.
Paris: knight=>knight
Orleans: caravel=>caravel

3. 580 AD – @ Tenoch – trebs go 5 for 5 and there are still healthy defenders. Kill one spear in the city and a LB just outside.

IBT – Persia and Portugal sign a treaty. Egypt and Portugal sign an MA against the Aztecs. Texcoco flips, we lose a musketeer. Some Aztecs were dropped off by Tlaxcala

4. 590 AD – Lose a knight retaking the city. There were two defenders. Pull two fresh knights into Tlaxcala and kill the invaders. Upgrade two galleys. I spend 1392G on a careful steal from Portugal. I steal navigation, so we can invade the Aztec mainland with a short supply line.

IBT – X-man wants an alliance against the Dutch. No thanks. A boatload of knights is attacked and sinks the attacker.

5. 600 AD – Kill a spear in Tenoch. We can now get three cities for peace. Sell Navigation to Caesar for Dyes, 714G & WM. Lux drops 10%, fire many specialists, I only have to hire a clown in Paris. With 18spt, it can still get a four turn knight.

IBT – Renew our furs for incense deal with Henry. This time we have to kick in 4 gpt & WM.
Orleans: caravel=>treb
Marseilles: knight=>knight

6. 610 AD - @ Tenoch – lose a knight killing three spears.

IBT – Persians and Dutch sign a treaty.
Watch some Roman knights die south of Tenoch.
Paris, Rouen: knight=>knight
Tlaxcala flips to the Portuguese. We lose a musket and a knight.

7. 620 AD - @ Tenoch – kill a spear, kill a crusader and…
Bugs3-620Leader.jpg

Form Bugsy’s Knights. Kill another spear. Monty has a lot of defenders. :rolleyes: Lose a knight.
Upgrade a galley.

IBT – The southern most Aztec town falls to the Romans.
Orleans: treb=>knight
Chartres: knight=>knight

8. 630 AD – Tenoch has dropped to pop 6. Three defenders left. Kill them and capture the city.
Start setting up for an amphibious landing on the remaining Aztec island.
WW has started to kick in. Lux goes up 10%. The Aztec wines help a bit, but not enough.

IBT – Aztecs drop off some units next to Tenoch. The Romans attack them, but they survive.
Reims, Tours: knight=>knight

9. 640 AD – Kill the invaders.

IBT – Monty wants to talk. He’ll still give us three cities.

10. 650 AD – Start loading up the invasion fleet.

After Action - The vessels are forted off the coast of Tenoch (I chopped the name) You will have four caravels and a galley (I’d upgrade) worth of units (including two armies) to invade with. I think Calix looks like a nice landing beach.

We’ll have enough for a careful steal against Rome now or Portugal next turn if you so desire. Physics and metallurgy are now known by Rome and Portugal.

A question:

1) How often do you steal in your games? I don't think I've sucessfully done it and have only attempted once or twice in all my C3C games.

I usually steal quite a bit, although it has gotten me into a couple of nasty wars. You just need to be ready for the worst.

Pre: We carefully steal Metallurgy from the Romans. Sell it to Persia for Economics, 1gpt and WM. Research off.

IBT: Portugal has military tradition now.

660AD: We need aqueducts for unit support! I start many. We neither can support nor need more units now.

IBT: Aztechs land a longbow.

670AD: Kill longbow. Take Calixtlahuacan (2 pikes). Switch Paris to The Heroic Epic.

IBT: Tenoch flips, no wonder with the castrated name ;) We lose a lone trebuchet.

680AD: Take Tenoch back and rename it back to Tenochtitlan (2 spears). Take Xochicalco (3 pikes).

IBT: --

690AD: Kill 2 longbows and get some slaves.

IBT: --

700AD: Take Tlacoplan (3 pikes) and Malinalco (2 pikes). Kill a longbow.

IBT: Persia and Portugal sign a MA vs the Aztechs. A Porugese spear plunders what will be our horses soon.

710AD: Take Tzintzunzen and Lutetia and they deserved it. The last battle gives us another Great Leader. Sell horses to Cleo for WM, 3gpt and 36gold. Sell incense to Xerxes for 105gold.

IBT: ROP with Caesar runs out. All resistance ends.

720AD: --

IBT: --

730AD: Pick up most units from Atzcapotzalco. Too much flip risk.

IBT: --

740AD: Sell our world map around.

IBT: --

750AD: --

Afterwords: We have finished some aqueducts, infra should be top priority - banks next. Do we want to start our own research? If we do, we need libraries and universities, but either in all our main cities or none. As an alternative we can try to steal us to Communism.

Our leader is fortified in Lutetia. A 3rd army would allow us to form the Petagon, so we should form one immediately and start it after The Heroic Epic completes in 2 turns.

I have not filled a third unit into the armies yet, you can still ship them with caravels. Fill the Aztech lands and get the towns to size 7. You can try a careful steal now or a safe one next turn (which is what I would do).

Who is our next enemy? The best seems to be the Dutch. They lack salpeter, so we should get them before they get rifles. The can offer us spices and gems.

Sounds like a good next target. Are there any other civs without saltpeter?

Rome looks like it may be geographically easier, although the prospect of fighting muskets is not nice. If we could quickly take their saltpeter, Caesar could be an option. Otherwise, I agree that the Netherlands might be our best bet.

Ok... got it...

So, basically just cleaning up the mess from the war? Is Monte still alive? Should we get some techs for this?
