Bugs3 - The Sid Virgin Sacrifice

Who is our next enemy? The best seems to be the Dutch
Veto. VETO!!!

Reasons to not fight the Dutch:
1) Swiss Mercennaries.
2) They are our best trading partners.
3) They are no threat, yet they are pathetic.
4) If we take them out, the AI balance will be destroyed.

Reasons 2)-4) also apply for Rome.

Reasons to fight Portugal:
1) If any Civ can run away here, it's Portugal.
2) We want a slow Tech pace (since our UU is equal to Rifles). Portugal most likely does the entire research in thisgame, and the other Civs fuel that with their gpt.
3) If Portugal turns on the Dutch or Rome, while we kill the other one, we're alone with Henry.
4) On Sid, you have a good chance to win when you're attacking someone; defending is much harder.
5) The Eastern Island is close enough to be somewhat productive.

Bottom line:
Prepare a war against Portugal. Risk immediate/careful steals. If they declare, sign in Rome and Dutch.

Ok... sounds good. I'll see if I can get this today, if I can't I'll post a note.

I have some schoolstuff to do, you see. *sigh*

750AD [Preturn]: Seems like a long time sonce I last had a turnset here... wonder why. :hmm:

IBT: Chartres duct > bank.
Avignon duct > bank.

760AD [1]: De Gaulle builds an army.

I could risk a careful steal on the Portugese but I'll wait some turns..

IBT: We get a crusader from the KT in Teno.

Paris builds Heroic Epic, start the Pentagon.

770AD [2]: Portugal is in the IA... better to attack them before they get railroads..

Decide it's time to get MilTrad before all of the others get it...

Risk a safe steal on Portugal, 2056 gold.

And we succeed. :)

Uh... looks like the AI trade multiplier is quite high on Sid. No trades possible with MilTrad... but at least we'll get cavs. Upgrade one knight.
And another.

780AD [3]: Upgrade a knight to a cav. And I think I made a little :smoke: move, as it might have been elite.

IBT: Orleans cath > cav.
Reims bank > cav.
Poitiers harbor > market.

790AD [4]: Upgrade some more knights.

IBT: Egypt and Portugal attack the Netherlands.

We lose dyes.

800AD [5]: And some more upgrading..

IBT: We lose furs.

Have to double the money to get furs from Portugal (8gpt)

Paris riots due to the lost dyes which didn't show up last turn.
Lyon, Besancon, do it too.
Tours court > bank.

Portugese complete Newton's in Lisbon.

810AD [6]: Lifting lux for only 3 cities would be too expensive, so hire some clowns.

IBT: Another crusader.

Maresilles court > bank.

820AD [7]: Upgrade another knight.

Start moving units into ships on the former Aztec island.

IBT: Orleans cav > cav.
Grenoble duct > bank.

830AD [8]: Continue loading...

I haven't done anything to the empty army, but I think a cav army would be better than one with knights. ;)

840AD [9]: Shuffle troops...

I guess we're gonna hit the Portugese land next to us, where we actully already have a foothold?

850AD [10]: Was a pretty unfocused turnset. I hope I didn't mess up too badly. We can soon afford a new safe steal, BTW. a little over 2000 gold is needed.

And the save to next better player. :hatsoff:

Lurker's question:

If I read the turnlog correctly: Why did you buy furs from Portugal, if you are going to attack them? Are you going to do war preparations for next 15turns?

[/lurk]

That's OK Gyathaar, because we have two different thoughts going on here. One thought says that we should attack the Dutch, one thought says we should go after Portugal. Let me throw out a third thought... How about Rome?

So our options are 1) wait for the deals to expire and attack Portugal, or 2) attack the Dutch. I vote for number 2. Team votes?

We are going to have to face Portugal sooner or later, so maybe now is the time. Rome and Portugal share cities on several landmasses. If we can get Rome to align with us it would be an interesting fight. If Rome aligns with them we are in trouble, because combined we could lose 3 cities and control of Knight Templar fairly early in the war. Knowing that Portugal is the tech pace setter in this game is another reason to weaken them. But we need to be in a position to move on Rome as soon as we finish against Portugal or we risk turning Rome into the next Superpower (research and military leader).

EDIT: If we are attacking PORT soon we should change the temple build in Atzcapotzalco to a musket in the preturn.

If we are really ready for Portugal, that would be ok, but I doubt it. We need cavs and canons for them, do we have that already?
IMHO that wouldn't even be that important. We can defend against them with Musketeers; what we really need is not so much their territory, but a dogpile against them. :satan:

I think I will vote for going after Portugal.

The problem with this thou is that deliverately breaking deals (even if it dont give reporation hit) is usually against the rules in SGs.. and there is no way to guarantee that we can make then declare on us.

2nd best would be to try to grab some dutch lands while we wait for portugese deal to expire one way or another, and then attack portugal at first chance.
