Bugs3 - The Sid Virgin Sacrifice

OK, I'll play the other 5 today.

I think we are going to have to do most of the fighting against Rome on our own. No other civ shares a landmass with them and we all no have ineffective the AI is at naval landings.

If we take out Rome it will allow us to grab Lisbon from PORT as well.

Decide against the steal attempt since I can get it for 500gold cheaper from PORT with peace, plus this ends our WW issue / Make peace with PORT for 25gpt and 1340gold we get Magnetism in the deal / upgrade 4 caravels to galleons / switch builds on Aztec island to cannons (then settlers) and settlers / adjust lux to 10% cycle thru cities changes some other builds & rush a cav in Tenochtitlan to fill out Gator Army / we are left with 795gold and +275gpt

IBT - all PORT ships head south / DUTCH offer a MPP & ROP for 3gpt do not accept but good to know - trade them our Wmap / ROM is building US also

Turn 6 - 1110AD
Tenochtitlan cav => settler
Calixtlahuaca settler => settler
Tzintzuntzen cannon => settler
Rouen settler => cav
Lutetia galleon => settler
Malinalco cannon => settler
upgrade 5 more caravels to galleons
repositioning troops
I've left Bugsy's Army on Aztec Island until we get more reinforcements there

IBT - PORT ships south / PORT are building US

Turn 7 - 1120AD
Orleans cav => cav
Besancon temple => settler
Tlacopan musketeer => settler
Cherbourg courthouse => barracks
Poitiers marketplace => barracks

IBT - more PORT ships came out of the shadows near Rio (4 frigates 2 galleons) other continue south - looks like they may be trying to get back to Lisbon or the 3 cities south of Aztec island / our Ivory deal with PER expires renew it by giving our Wmap, incense and 300gold / our dyes deal with Rome expires - I do NOT renew it

Turn 8 - 1130AD
Avignon cannon => cav
had to hire some specialists after losing the dyes
sell courthouse & harbor in Rio (can't sell aqueduct) abandon city and found Brest in its place
position troops

IBT - PORT ships south

Turn 9 - 1140AD
Reims cannon => cav
Besancon settler (rushed) => cav
position troops

IBT - most PORT ships south except for 1 group of ships which moves north

Turn 10 - 1150AD
Paris cav => cav
Orleans cav => cav
Toulouse galleon (rushed) => settler (city grows to size 3 next turn)
position troops

We are now weak only to Rome and average against everyone else except EGY (strong)

Notes to next player
1) I've got a bunch of troops within striking distance of Rome
2) There is already a settler in Tenochtitlan waiting to replace a Roman city
3) Settler builds on Aztec island are for cities there and Roman lands
4) Should have money to try a steal in a few turns - could be way to kick off war with Rome if we fail
5) Settler is in position to found the east side of the canal that Doc highlighted or it can replace the rubble pile 3 tiles north
6) There are also troops ready to move on Tula
7) May want to see if Dutch still want the MPP cheap way to get them in the war on our side

1150AD Save

(Oops, the light green is hard to read - "Gator army, 7 crusaders, 5 muskets, 3 cannons")

How fare are we behind in techs?

Since we still need TOG to change ages I can't tell, other than everyone except EGY is building Univ. Suff.

Tenochtitlan cav => settler
A minor point: Teno has a duct, we should let it grow to size 7 for unit support now.
MPP with the Dutch - how risky is it they'll fight Persia? If we're forced to declare on Xerxes, our Rep may be harmed (though it is a pure per-turn deal on their side). If we MPP the Dutch, and MA Persia, it would be great.
Tech status: Do we really care? Our Muskets are as good as Rifles, Cannons will do the job as well, and we have quite some Cavs...
Sure, Factories and Hoover would rule, but ATM it is not critical.

Hey, I just notice something:
If we raze Tlateloco, make a Dyes colony (no city!), we could make a nice Funnel of Doom there, trapping most of the Roman fast-movers (use two Armies, while pillage
ing with Gator's Army; use Crusaders to build Forts for the ZoC; and we can bombard the weakened Rifles, to retreat those, while taking out the Cavs).

Pre-flight – 1150 AD – First I grab Cleo by the hair, drag her to the peace table. Take all the money in her purse (6G) and a copy of her WM, then make her sign a peace treaty. Now she is just annoyed with us.

I will hold off on the war declaration. I would like to have some units in place to capture the southern Roman city, plus I’d like to be able to land all units at once. That will take at least two turns.

I see we have the number of canon, up to 16. Probably could use some more. Some are up to the north.

Make one or two changes in our cities, but in general everything is in order.

IBT – Caesar cancels the ROP. That’s fine.

1. 1160 AD – Maneuvering.

IBT – Poitiers: barracks=>cav

2. 1170 AD – Found Bordeaux. Start a worker.

Attempt a careful steal from the Romans for 1791G. We are successful. I select ToG and we enter the IA. Everyone but Cleo has all first tier IA techs. Cleo is now down to a one tile island city.
Orleans: cav=>cav
Chartres: cav=>barracks :smoke:
Grenoble: cannon=>cannon

3. 1180 AD – Maneuvering

IBT
Bugs3_1180_Demand2.jpg

Stuff it! We lose a galleon with two cannon.

4. 1190 AD - @ Tula – Lose a cav, but capture the city.
@ Teotihuacan – Kill two defenders.
One the front, kill 8 cavs lose two.
Move a stack next to the southern Roman city (Teohtihuaca) and the city to the north (Tlatelolco)

Sign the Dutch into an MA for Incense & 2gpt, and the Portuguese in for 26gpt.

We have some nice war happiness. Lux to zero. Fire some

IBT – Kill a two cavs on the front, sink an ironclad, lose a galleon, lose two crusaders.

5. 1200 AD - @ Tlatelolco – Bombard then kill two rifles and a MDI. Capture the city.
@ the old front – kill two rifles, ten cavs.
@ Teotihuacan – lose four crusaders.

IBT - @ Tlatelolco – Kill three cavs. A Stack of 42 units (mostly rifles with some cav) move next to the city.

6. 1210 AD – Kill
11 cannon, seven defenders @ Tlatelolco.

IBT - We lose two muskets, most of the rifles pillage and march around us.

7. 1220 AD – Found Rennes in former Azteca.
@ Teotihuacan – Use the knight army to kill the two defenders. Capture the city.

Kill three invaders in our rear, and three around Tlatelolco.

Spend 1836G on a careful steal from the Persians. We get Steam Power. We have coal between Texcoco and Tlatelolco. I change Texcoco to a worker and rush it for 28G.

IBT – Rome pulls Persia into the war against us. We lose our supply of ivory.

8. 1230 AD – Spend 148G rushing Tlatelolco’s barracks.
9. 1240 AD – Kill about seven or eight invading rifles.

IBT - :wallbash: We lose a galleon full of slaves heading back to the mainland.
Lutieta flips to the Portuguese.

10. 1250 AD – Kill 12 cavs and rifles, lose four cavs.

After Action – Don’t be making peace anytime soon. We have fourteen turns left on the MAs. The Romans are following the yellow line to get to our interior. I didn't see Doc's post, but we do have a bit of a "Funnel of Doom" going.

Pre: Some swapping of tiles, but nothing special.

IBT: Lots of Persian and Roman ships move, but no landings. We get pillaged by Rome.

1255AD: Kill 4 rifles and 1 longbow. We get a leader and another cav. army. Hurry walls and a musket near the front.

IBT: Persia declares on Dutch. We get pillaged again.

1260AD: Kill 5 rifles.

IBT: Portugal declares on Persia. We lose 2 galleons.

1265AD: Sink 2 frigates and kill 1 rifle. Rome would make straight peace.

IBT: Persia lands units on the former Aztech isle.

1270AD: Kill Persian AC, cav, rifle - 1 immortal remains.

IBT: Persian immortal dies to musket. Persia lands a 4 unit stack on our home isle. A Roman cav dies to our musket.

1275AD: Kill 2 Persian cavs, rifle and immortal - losing a cav.

IBT: Rome and Portugal sign peace. We renew our peace with Portugal. Persia lands 4 cavs on the former Aztech isle. Rome lands 2 cavs behind the front.

1280AD: Attack on Neapolis: kill 3 rifles and take it :confused: Rome has Guerillia and artillery -> replacable parts :eek: , but seems to miss rubber :p . Kill 8 Roman cavs and 2 rifles. Spearhead founded. Lose 1 cav killing the 4 Persian cavs. Carefully steal electricity from Portugal. Renew the MA with Portugal vs Rome paying 23gpt. I know that won't get me applause, but we need them - we are dancing on a razor blade.

IBT: Roman troops move off to the north - maybe a Portugese landing!?

1285AD: Kill 5 rifles and 1 guerillia. Make straight peace with Persia.

IBT: Netherlands and Portugal sign peace.

1290AD: Kill 4 rifles and 1 guerillia.

IBT: Egypt and Rome sign peace. Persia completes the Universal Suffrage.

12950AD: nothing ... no Roman troops in sight!

IBT: nothing...

1300AD: Neapoilis abandoned. Settler is near to refound. Stack of canons and 3 armies off to attack next city.

We are strong to Egypt and Holland; average to Persia and Portugal and still weak to Rome. I would press on, their troops are either busy or wandering around uncoordinated.

1300AD [Preturn]: Have a look around... long time no Bugs 3 playing, seems.

Wow, we're leader in population and world area! :wow: Maybe we should go for domination... only some 45% land to go... I doubt e have time. Spaceship is fine, too.

The cities look like they're perfectly MMed. Nothing to note. :)

We're behind in techs. I guess we'll have to get some pointy stick techs from Rome when we make peace... which will be at max in 16 turns, when our last alliance against them ends.

Man, we have a lot of armies... I wonder when I last saw so many.

IBT: Some Roman ships and one guerrilla seen.

A volcano erupted near Hispalis... apparently no damage to the city.

1305AD [1]: Need 2 cavs to kill a guerilla, kill a cav too.

IBT: Two of our galleons defend against two attacking, arleady wounded ironclades and win.

1310AD [2]: Build Rheims.

Kill a couple of Roman rifles, lose a cav doing so.

Bombard Pompeii but most of the cannons miss so I'll wait until next turn.

IBT: Egypt and Porto sign MPP.

Egypt attacks Rome.

Marseilles riots. :blush:
And Tula. WW is getting worse.

Egypt attacks Persia. No wonder they're so aggressive, they're on a one-tile island. :lol:

1315AD [3]: Most of the cannons hit Pompeii so the defenders are at max at 2hp. Time to attack:

14hp army attacks 2-hp rifle, wins losing a couple hp.
Same army kills 2 more rifles, now down to about half of the hp.
Another army kills the last rifle... only 4 defenders? :confused:

We raze Pompeii and get 7 slaves.

IBT: The Portugese landed a pillage group last turn... including a warrior?!? :lol:

Rome and Holland sign peace.

Rome destroys the pillagers.

Resistance finally ends in Teotihuacan.

1320AD [4]: Bombard some rifles and kill them with elites...
1320AD_degaulle.jpg

I think the Pentagon would be cool... or another army? Pentagon sounds good. Send De Gaulle home.

Kill a couple of other units too.

IBT: Lose a worker. It was unprotected. :smoke:

1325AD [5]: Settle New Orleans next to the ruins of Pompeii.

Gator's knights raze New Brundisium, a Roman settlement near Spearhead and take a couple of undefended slaves from behind it.

The turns take quite long on my old PC, so I'll only play 5 turns. I hope that's fine qith you gyus. A 466 Celeron just isn't eally enough for the IA interturns.

De Gaulle is in a ship going home. I'm sure you'll notice him.

The front:
bugs3_1325_front.jpg

Razing Ravenna would be good, so we can ship the settlers we build in Portugese lands to the north safely to Roman lands.

Be carefull when building the Pentagon. We will not be able to ship 4-unit-armies for a long time. Maybe the best is to wait with filling them until we have landed them on the next targets isle (which looks like Persia atm). I would not fill them while we fight Rome for the next 11 turns.

I see enough cash for a steal, which could bring us replacable parts! An infantry army sounds nice for pillaging Persia too...so many option so few leaders :)

We can trade luxes with Persia, but should we do so now? It seems doubtfull at least.

Well played.
Except one thing I simply do not agree with: As you can see nicely on Ankka's pic, we have done no pillaging to Rome. Doesn't have to be everywhere, but the capital must be pillaged. That will also kill their Rep when they ship any goods to someone.
Not possible with Lisbon, but Rome is not coastal.

Oops, my bad! :blush:

No pillaging was done before and I didn't even think of it... :rolleyes:

Well, we have several armies so we should be able to drop them down pretty fast anyway...

1325ad, turn 0:
Spend a long time looking around.
All available Wonders has already been built, and noone is building ToE yet... (no danger of loosing it to cascade) I switch Orleans to palace as Prebuild.

The dutch are down electrisity, and we need medisine to see when sci methods is available.
electrisity and WM (was worth 1gp) to dutch for medicine and 289gold

Rome has monopoly on sci methods, but has not started building ToE yet (guess they rightly fear we will raze whatever city they start it in...)

Rome would pay us 1220gold for peace, so still some way to go before they will give us a tech.

Persia has some gold, and dont have music theory yet (rome dont have it yet either).. then I realize noone has JS Bachs? was the city that built it razed. or was it simply not built yet? Only one way to find out.

Give Egypt military tradition for Music Theory (MT cant be very useful for them on their one tile island with no horses and no salt)

Seems Bachs has not been built yet... so wont sell music theory to persia afterall..

Switch the ToE prebuild to Bachs instead to easier see how many turns left.. 18.. need a factory to speed it up.

Carefully steal industrialization from Portugal (worst case we wont have to wait 11 turns for the MA with them to end..)
Steal is success.
(Would have stolen replaceable parts if rome didnt have monopoly of it.. need espionage to steal from rome)

Lack a little bit of gold to be able to rush factory in Orleans, so I decide to sell Music theory to Persia afterall.. this way they will have a harder time buying sci methods, and rome can buy it from the dutch anyway.
Persia has the biggest island, so capturing Bachs on that island later if they build it wont be bad.

Sell Music theory to Persia for 300gold,WM and 17gpt (we pay up front, they pay gpt so no rep hit if we break the deal, not that it will be a problem to get them to break it since they are furious already)

Find unmoved cav armies, and start to move them towards rome to pillage

pillage one of romes 2 horses.. and they suddenly dont have horses.. guess they are trading the other away to persia... :)

DocT mentioned Lisbon was coastal and could not be blocked from trading by pillage.. it isnt coastal.. and rome has already pillaged portugal away from trading posibility :)

I decide to raise lux tax with 10% and can fire lots of entertainers

I see no roman infantery anywhere.. so I assume they dont have rubber...

I decide to kill off the redlined roman settler pair, I dont want to them found a city on the horses

IBT:
Persia request audience... They want RoP and MA vs dutch.. I say no
Portugal move some boats.. rome moves a rifle-settler pair into view..

That is everything.. guess rome is gassed on their main island and all thir troops are on the other island

Persia capture the last dutch city on their island, and start JS Bachs in amsterdam.. (hope it flips back to dutch.. netherland has about 3 times the culture of persia.. :P )

1330AD, turn 1:
pillage the first of the roman wines.. and they no longer have wines.. guess the 2nd one is traded away to persia.. so I pillage the 2nd wines too.. there goes roman rep and persias wines..
pillage the iron, and they no longer have iron either

found lyons and new paris on old aztec island

Notice rome captured lisbon last IBT, guess they are not totally gassed yet, portugese capital jumped to one of their northern tundra towns.
This means portugal should be able to trade with us now.. but they would only pay a few hundred hold for all our extra luxes plus iron and salt, so I decide to not sell them anything

Start moving our artillery units towards ravanna-sagres-antium

IBT:
loose 2 cavs as rome move a ton of forces down from former portugese front.

Portugese start JS Bachs

1335AD, turn 2:
Rome is cut off from the world
All paths romans can use to send attacking troops are either pillaged or blocked by armies

Use De Gaulle to rush pentagon in Amiens (only city on main island that finished the builds in last IBT)

Turn around the cannons, and instead bombard the stack of roman cavs sitting outside New Orleans
kill off all the roman units in view except a guerilla that cant do any harm in the IBT

Found New Rheims and New Lyons

Just noticed that everyone but us and egypt is in fascism now

IBT:
Netherlands and persia sign peace

lose a cav and kill a rifle outside ravanna (I landed units there from home island last turn)
complete pentagon

The dutch start JS Bach's (again)

1340AD, turn 3:

Rome has built fort and barricade on their chokepoint.. luckily they had no units there.. so I place one of the pillaging armies there, cutting off the return path of the units from portugese offensive (8 of them managed to slip though in last IBT)

kill 3 rifles, a guerilla and a cav in ravanna, and then raze it, gaining 6 slaves

kill off the guerilla I didnt kill last turn

Found New Tours

IBT:
portugese wants to swap territory maps.. we tell them to add 3gold to the deal and they agree

loose 2 cavs and kill 1 cav in roman attacks

1345AD, turn 4:
wow.. pillaging a barricade takes away all the movement points of an army.

kill off 4 rifles, loose 1 cav

found New Chartres

IBT:
Lots of roman boat movement.. and eventually they drop off.. 2 settler pairs in the same square... and its next to about 10 of our cavs and 2 armies..

Hmm.. Persia builds JS Bachs in Persepolis.. I never noticed they switched city... rome still has monopoly on sci methods and replaceable parts thou, so the JS builds wont cascade

1350AD, turn 5:
Rome sold sanitation to persia in the IBT it seems

Can finally pillage the 2 roman furs that was connected

IBT:
Rome and egypt sign peace

1355AD, turn 6:
found New Avignon

kill off units in reach of our cities, rest of forces start march towards Sagres

1360AD, turn 7:
kill off about a dusin cavs and rifles that came into reach of cities or was dropped off by boats.. still no leaders :(

IBT:
roman ships drop off 2 cavs on west coast, then start the long way back around the island to the east side again..

1365AD, turn 7:
loose 2 cavs, but capture and raze Sagres

loose a cav when killing off the cavs that was dropped off by boats

IBT:
weird.. the empty roman ships turned around

1370AD, turn 8:
both Portugal and persia picked up replacable parts in the IBT.. everyone has roughly the same amount of gold, and all the same techs, so they must have both researched it.

Ouch.. WW hit a new lvl.. have to put lux at 60% and hire clowns

kill off 4 rifles in Antium with 3 armies, and raze the city

IBT:
Persia and rome sign trade embarbo vs us

1375AD, turn 9:
found New Besancon
kill off 5 rifles that was dropped by boats, but cannons missed a lot, and I end up with 2 redlined armies

IBT:
persia and portugal sign peace

1380AD, turn 10:
WW hurts too much, and rome is not close to want to give up a tech :(

So I decide to pull some risky deals before someone vetos it :P

kill off all roman units in reach

make peace with rome for 1861gold
carefully steal from rome... success take sci methods

sci methods is not enough to get replaceable parts from anyone.. so decide to risk another steal

sell sci methods to persia for wm and 2458gold

carefully steal from portugal success again.. take replacable parts

switch Orleans to ToE, due next turn

switch research to atomic theory

lower lux to 20%, and fire lots of specialists

We have 3 sources of rubber :)

The Army build in Paris is meant as a small prebuild for Hoover.

Portugal will sell us sanitation for sci methods and either iron or saltpeter.. I didnt pull this deal incase we want to attack them.

I assume we want to go after Persia next, and then go after Rome again in about 20 turns.. their lands will be pillaged for a long time..

I deliberately didnt take Rome the city so the capital would not jump to a coastal location.
