C&C Red Alert 3 Confirmed!

I just hope that the system requirements are going to be at where people with a three year old computer can play it.

Sorry, but I doubt it, unless you like paid £2,000 (UK) for it at the time. Not gloating, but I'm in the same boat too. This term is called bloatware - the developers make it so resorce-heavy because they are working with PC's that are like 5 years ahead of the one that we actully have sitting in our homes. They don't stop to think.

I've stopped listening to my 'feelings' when they told me to buy C&C - Generals. It will need to be damm good for me to trust EA again. They seem to kack up quite a lot.

Can it play tiberium Wars ?
I think it still uses the same engine.

It is extremely likely (okay, I know for a fact that it is) using a variation of the same engine that they've been using since Generals. This engine has been used (with enhancements) for Generals, Zero Hour, BFME, BFME2 (and Witch-king), and CNC3 (and Kane's Wrath). If you can run one of them, you should be able to run RA3. Having said that, you may need to turn the graphic settings down.

If you add a new fation to the Red Alert timeline Japan seems to be the most logical choice.
There was no WW2 as we know it and the Emperor might try to capialize on the Soviet/Western conflict.
If there was no WWII, why's there the USS Arizona memorial in the Pearl Harbor mission? :shifty:

From the screenshots, it looks like they'll keep the C&C3 lighting; and all I can say is, damn. I'd prefer to be able to see the map, if that's alright.

The site also mentions that apart from Dolphisn the game will have bears as combat units. Yes, I just typed bears. They'll probably be Soviet units, although the right to arm bears seems like an american thing.

Japan still attacked the US, just not Germany, IIRC.

You have found one of the three main inconsistancies in RA II. The Io Jima monument in DC is still there, as well as the USS Arizona at Pearl. So some form of WWII happened in the Pacific.

But, Gen. Carville in the vidclip at the start of the Pearl Mission, makes a joke that the Soviet's couldn't make a sucessful attack on Pearl. This suggests that the Pearl Harbour attack didn't happen - otherwise he wouldn't joke about it.

I have just found three screenshot.

Aah, naval units. I really miss them in Tiberium Wars, and it looks like the game will be at least as "silly" as RA 2. Ships armed with Tesla coils ? Isn't this a bit suicidal ?

And there will be a third faction: Japan.

Something original for a change. Although I've been having plenty fun slashing warthog riders (in the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess).

I don't think I'll be getting this. For one thing, the only Command and Conquer game I have is the atrocious Generals (why did IGN give it a 9.3/10 again?), and I've developed a sort of hate for that series. Although that hasn't stopped me from considering buying Tiberium Wars sometime.

And speaking of Zelda...

Spoiler :
Can the legendary Link defeat the Scrin? We shall see...

I don't understand all of the C&C - Generals hate. It was by no means Red Alert or Tiberium Sun fun, but it was a pretty fun game.

I think part of the Generals hate is due to the fact that it was not in either the Tiberium or Red Alert time lines (making people question if it is a "real" CNC game). Another factor is that it was EA's first 3D RTS and it had a few rough edges. Then there is is the fact that it was by EA (this is enough to cause hate in some peoples' view - not me) and not Westwood (some people will consider that any CNC title after the buy out is not a "real" CNC game).

As you can see, except for the rough edges on the programming, none of these are based on the actual game itself, but some sort of prejudice.

I have never played Generals. My PC at that time was too weak, and when I finally upgraded the game wasn't high on my list, but it seems to have some good ideas.
I can't understand the "not Westwood" and "EA sucks" argument.
Tiberium Wars is a really great game. Well, at leats after 9 patches and massive balance changes.
Tiberian Sun on the other hand was a disappointment. I wouldn't go as far to say the game really sucked, but it was mediocre at best.

You could call Red Alert and Generals as the series' spin-offs.

Comparing the Generals title with the Red Alert title is an insult to Red Alert. While Generals is definitely not the best game, it is still enjoyable, however, Red Alert surpasses it BY FAR. I haven't encountered a single Red Alert game which failed. Sure, modding isn't that possible, but the game is fun.

I'd rate Generals over Red Alert 2 to be honest. RA2 took a step away from the real and gritty in favor of a cartoony feel which I disliked. That and pretty much all of its attempts at humor were awful.

What's next among spin-offs?

Spoiler :
The answer is Command and Conquer: Napoleonic Era.

But as you know, I'm just kidding.

Seriously, the near-term spin-offs will be Kane's Wrath, RA3, and Tiberium (an FPS).

According to PC Gamer they aren't using the C&C3 engine, but an all new engine called RNA.

The three main universes have different feels to them imho.

The Tiberium universe depicts a post-apocalyptic world with a global police organisation fighting a cult led by a crazed prophet, so it has a serious, dark theme.

Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge is comparatively light-hearted, even comical. It's less serious and more adventurous (think outragous, advanced technologies like Chronosphere, Iron Curtain, mind control technology).

Red Alert 1 and Renegade lies somewhere in between. Generals and Zero Hour are based in the real world rather than in an alternate timeline. The storyline is not as developed as the Tiberium or Red Alert universes, which consequently mean that Generals or ZH is all about gameplay.

According to my sources (who I trust), the new engine started life as the CNC3 engine (which started as the BFME2 engine, which started as the BFME engine, which started as the Generals engine, which was an all new engine with Renegade (except for the scripting and networking code which...well you get the point), IIRC).
