C2C- Resources Discussion and Ideas

I am not sure yet.

However we do have Hydrogen, Helium 3, Natural Gas, Methane Ice, CO2 Ice as resources already.
I meant these elements:
Neon
Argon
Krypton
Xenon
Radon
Chlorine
Nitrogen
Bromine
Helium (the standard isotope)

What building made the Hydrogen resource?

Helium is found in large amounts in minerals of uranium and thorium, including cleveite, pitchblende, carnotite and monazite, because they emit alpha particles (helium nuclei, He2+) to which electrons immediately combine as soon as the particle is stopped by the rock. In this way an estimated 3000 metric tons of helium are generated per year throughout the lithosphere. There are also small amounts in mineral springs, volcanic gas, and meteoric iron. Because helium is trapped in the subsurface under conditions that also trap natural gas, the greatest natural concentrations of helium on the planet are found in natural gas, from which most commercial helium is extracted. The concentration varies in a broad range from a few ppm up to over 7% in a small gas field in San Juan County, New Mexico.
As for gaining it, I'd say Helium Filter building, which requires Natural Gas well on city plot. Technologically available around year 1900.
Other noble gasses are usually gained by atmospheric filtering, but their global consumption is tiny compared to helium's.
And does it event make much sense to differentiate between the various noble gases?

On a slightly different subject, do we have plutonium as a resource (created by uranium reactors). For early->middling space flight uses it seems like it might be a good one to model: http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/?p=161921

You can use other fuels for RTGs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radioisotope_thermoelectric_generator#Fuels)
Plutonium is simply the best one. How about a manufactured Atomic Battery resource (to account for the myriad other elements and their isotopes)?

I thnk some ppl wont like this, but...
A zebra as a map ressource? That can be used like horse for many building and allow (in city vicinity) Zebra trainer Wonder.

Another point for ressource is ocean : ocean are nearly empty. And late game, a city can have a radius of 3, but the further tile have never any ressource. Maybe we can have some ressource here, even some mineral ressource (only avaible later)
But even farther than 3 from land, having the ocean totally empty is just weird. No fish ressource, no whale ressource... A way to take ressource far from our land (Marine Super Fort-like?) can be fun.

Standart isotope for Helium would be Helium 2, not I. And noble gases are elements, too :old:
Nevertheless, I think adding SOME new manufactured resources might be a good idea. The thing is: Do we really NEED a manufactured resource? In the modern era, do you have any cities NOT in your trading network? Assuming that AI gets better, if they have the same techlevel, they don't need to trade for those resources at all. So new manufactured resources are totally useless then. Once you build the manufacturing building once in your empire, you will (almost) never have to deal with that resource again!
This would only make sense if:

1) The new resource is needed on space / lunar / martian ... colonies and trading routes to those are not that easy.
2) If we had stockpiled resources

Before those , I don't think adding new resources (including those I did for the TH era lately) adds anything to gameplay.

Cows, Sheep, Horses, Bison, Deer, Pig, Camel
Produces: Urine
Produces: Manure
Why would Urine be a resource? :vomit:

I made graphics for Zebra resource but DH did not want it added. :( (because there were already too many map resources)

Because it's used for sterilization since ancient times, and it has Ammonia, Nitrates, and a good number of numerous organic compounds that are extracted for pharmaceuticals. It is also used for Phosphorus and Potassium extraction . It's also called Urea. Also don't vomit it's almost as sterile as bleach, but not really acidic or alkaline so it's used in household cleaners and dishwasher soap. Isn't nature wonderful.

This brings me to a different thing... there are simply too many minerals and elements required by modern industries to represent in-game. Perhaps a few resources should be renamed to more general one:
Titanium -> Rare Metals (Titanium, Tungsten, Vanadium,...)
Uranium -> Fissile Materials (Uranium, Thorium, ...)
Probably a few others too...
That way there is no need to add a dozen new resources.

I'm surprised ochre isn't a resource in the prehistoric and ancient eras. It was highly valued by early humans and the first resource traded over long distances. It was a pigment used for cave paintings and body painting.

Lot of essential ressource (Iron, Sulphur, ...) are too rare. And AI dont often want to trade them because they have only one
A way to counter this :
  • Each building related to this ressource (Iron Mine and the like) provide a ressource. having the ressource in city vicinity only mean you lousely used it. having the building in your city mean you actively use it, so you have more ressource.
So, with a Iron in your city vicinity (and mine, and road), you can have 1 Iron ore. With Iron Mine in city, you can have a second one and trade it for a Copper Ore.
  • National <Ressource> Foundry should provide 2 ressource instead of one. They are big and the pride of your nation.
  • Some ressource can come from some terrain. Volcanoes can provide Sulphur (like in Sicily in antiquity) And Obsidian. tar from forest (with high air pollution), so tar pit should provide many tar ressource with far less pollution, and the like
  • AI must be more willing to rade these ressource.

After time to think, we could narrow that giant list to the following resources:
Rare Earths Metals
Noble Gases

Noble Gases should appear at Refrigeration with Gas Distillery.
Rare Earths Metals at Advanced Metallurgy with Rare Earth Foundry.

If we are able to mine at Asteroids, add the following to be enabled at Asteroid Mining:
Iridium
Palladium
Antimony

Art for the new resources (by Mr Azure).

Thanks! Added it to my FPK and uploaded it to the SVN.

EDIT: I found that 2 of them were pink. It helps if you give me ones named the same as what you list in your files. For instance you gave me goodphonograph.dds but listed goodphonographs.dds Make sure you fix your file so it matches the other icon/buttons names you gave me. Of those that were pink were ...

- Phonographs
- Typewriters

That's the downside when Mr Azure is making the buttons. They looked good at a first glance so I didn't checkt all.

We could fix this simple. What naming scheme do you want to male the standard.

So far:
All small letters
No spaces.

For goods I can add or never add an (s). What's the plan for that?
