C2C - Transhuman Era

Does anyone know when MrAzure is going to start working on adding the changes to the Transhuman Era that we settled on? If he won't do it soon, I'll have to make those changes myself, so that we can have the tree look more cleaned up for V25.

You would have to ask azure himself try giving him a pm

I'm starting work on updating the Civ4TechInfos file with all of the suggested changes. ls612 wanted Cognitive Robotics to be merged into Machine Learning.

Cognitive Robotics is a core tech from the earlier versions of the Transhuman Era. Hydromancerx, do you want this kept or merged? I'm okay with merging it, or letting Machine Learning (which is newer) standing in for Cognitive Robotics and being moved backwards in the layout.

Also -- same deal with Biofuels tech. Can Biomaterials stand in for both? My sentiment is yes, let Biomaterials cover biofuels along with other materials.

Are you following this post too? Cognitive Robotics is a black tech on the online tech tree and needs to stay. I stated that all black techs needed to stay.

EDIT: I think Cognitive Robotics was just renamed Machine Learning but retained the old tags.

Yes, I'm following that post. Okay, that works for me:
  • Cognitive Robotics will be renamed Machine Learning. Machine Learning itself will be deleted (that's a red tech).
  • Biofuels will be renamed Biomaterials. Biomaterials is on the post #400 draft, but isn't on the Google spreadsheet.

Red techs were new techs that MrAzure added while black techs were ones from before MrAzure. Thus if you rename Cognitive Robotics to Machine Learning that's fine as long as it keeps the old tags so it will not mess up any buildings or units.

For instance the Construct Ship, Global Hawk and Walker Droid all depend upon the Cognitive Robotics tag. So make sure to keep the old tag even if its renamed to Machine Learning.

Oh yes, I understand that keeping the old tags intact is the primary reason for not deleting the core techs. The actual name that the player sees is totally secondary.

@Vokarya

How are things coming?

I'm working on it. I'm trying to synthesize the current techs on the XML with the new proposed stuff from post #400 and the posts after it.

I noticed one thing about the Lunar technologies (from the post here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=11662153&postcount=447): Lunar Trade is dependent on Asteroid Extraction, which is a Galactic tech and requires Orbital Megastructures (Asteroid Extraction leads into both Mass Driver and Solar Propulsion, which are required for Lunar Trade). Do you think that an Asteroid Mining tech in the Transhuman Era would be a good idea? It would be somewhere after Asteroid Belt Probes. I'm not completely sure what Asteroid Extraction is supposed to represent.

Asteroid Extraction is just a fancy name for Asteroid Mining. So I would say that the Asteroid Extraction should come earlier.

Okay, I'll look at that again when I get back up there. I'm looking at the earlier Transhuman Era stuff now and trying to understand it all.

This is what the two names say to me:
  • Asteroid Mining is sending a spaceship to an asteroid to dig for easily available materials and then send them back to Earth.
  • Asteroid Extraction is bringing an entire asteroid to a facility and rendering it down it to its component elements. This one requires Orbital Megastructures to have a facility capable of handling entire asteroids.

So we could have both at different points. We don't have to have both, but we could.

That setup sounds really good. I approve of it.

Couple more questions about the earlier columns of the Transhuman tech tree.

What do you want to do with Biomathematics (X81, Y13)? It isn't in the post #400 draft, but it is part of the current XML.

What is the Planetary Business tech at X79, Y11 on the post #400 draft? This is where the Next Generation GPS tech was. Is this different from Planetary Economics? Planetary Economics is early Galactic Era.

Then I'll have an extra Asteroid Mining tech for the Transhuman Era. I'm working on incorporating all your suggestions, so there is going to be a lot of extra space in the Transhuman Era.

1. Biomathematics can stay, I see no real objection to it (It should be a prereq for DNA computing).

2. How about renaming that one to Multinational Corporations? Remember that that one is on X79, which means that it should be moved to the Modern Era.

OK, no problem there. DNA Computing is close to the end of the Transhuman Era, though. Biomathematics will probably be redundant by that point. I'll find out after I bore into the prerequisites more; I'm looking right now at what will be kept and what will be removed.

That's Conglomerates on column X78. We originally had Conglomerates at the end of the Transhuman Era, and then I suggested breaking it into Conglomerates to cover Modern-era multinationals and Megacorporations to be the vast corporations of the cyberpunk era.

OK, then we can scrap Planetary Business. I would also like to scrap Megacorps until we redo the Corporation system.

Sure ok. I will go along with that.

Well we can always move back the techs to the left if we need to.

1. Like ls612 said it can stay.

2. I did not even know there was a "Planetary Business" tech. What?

Right now, Megacorporations is required for the Global Stock Exchange wonder, so I think we need to keep it. I have some ideas for corporations that we could hang here until we can redo the corporation system.
