Hi all, I recently changed my ini file to say "KeepRes=1" (I use a 1280 by 1024 resolution), so that I can use my standard resolution in the game. However, when I go into the game, the city screens and the opening screen with the menu just have a black border around them (see screenshot for details). The map is fine though, with no black border. :hmm: Anyone know of any little tricks I can make it so it extends until the sides? Thanks.

Try adjusting your monitor settings. Not sure what the names of the thingies will be, but it should be something like 'H-Size' and 'V-Size'. Increase these until the city view covers the whole screen :)

I don't have H-size and V-size settings. ;) Or where are you talking about? On the monitor itself or in a computer file? I used to be able to do this...and it worked...

On the actual monitor, there should be a few buttons. There'll probably be one to activate/show some kind of menu. On that menu, there should be some settings which determine the horizontal size, and the vertical size. Increase both of these if you can :)
I can't really help you any more than that without being on your computer :p

Nah - don't do that. ;) If you do everything else will be off the screen!! :ack:

The reason you have a border is because the screens are written in pixels as sprites, not as vector graphics. The whole point of the bigger screen is to get more map, not to make the city screens fit your monitor....

p.s. I run in 1600x1200 and it's amazing! I can't imagine going back to 800x600. :D

Ok, alright, I'll try that. (@anarres: that's double the map. Wow! ps: it's 1024 x 768 ;) ).

Another question: do you know where the file that shows how the barricades/fortress change throughout the ages is? (the .pcx file). Thanks.

You can rebuild it by pasting elements together from the same file found in most of the conquests. Perhaps you installed a mod that overwrote the C3C file?
Edit: make sure you're looking in conquests\art\terrain

About the German city names :

The reason, I believe, is that the Germans are maximumly aggressive. This means they attack. A lot. And usually lose. And since they start attacking in the ancient age, most of their cities have no culture when they are lost.

Hence, the AI is forced to 'raze' the German cities.

Dresden was probably built and razed already. The AI does not re-use razed city names. This is probably the answer.

I can not get Jerusalem to take my holy grail. I am in a square next to the city and when I try to move it in, nothing happens. Can anyone tell me where I have gone worng?

I'm playing a game on emperor level against 7 civs and there is war envolving everybody.

I had a mutual protection pact with Germany, America and France and all of them declared war on England when they attacked me.

Everything was ok then. But, when there still was 8 turns for my MPP´s to expire, all of them quickly were not active anymore. First, the MPP with America, and in the following turn the MPP with France and Germany.

They didn´t declare war on me, and kept fighting against England (exception to America that signed a peace treaty).

Can somebody explain to me if it is a bug, or if there is some fact/action in the game that can cause a MPP to be canceled before its proper time (20 turns).

Yes, I had to give incense to America and Gems to France for them to sign a MPP with me. Now I remember that England destroyed the routes (roads). That's the answer.

Thanks, watorrey.

Can someone tell me if the American version of Conquests is compatible with the European ( English ) version of CIV3?

AFAIK, C3C doesn't have compatibility issues. I think. You're supposed to pick your language when it installs.

That being said, I'd rather you wait for someone who knows for sure before buying it. Unless the store has a liberal return policy. ;)
