Well i had experiences when the computer diddn't even let me take a wait. Sometimes I just move straight onto the next turn. The computer never told me to hit spcebar or enter key or click on that little screen on the lower right corner. All it did is to display a notice saying "Please Wait...". This is so weird according to your description.

If you check the "Always Wait At End Of Turn" box, the game will ALWAYS stop at the end of your turn until you hit Enter or the Spacebar. :)

This is a nice bunch of people for questions. If they were not, they would have thrown this Grandma out of the site a long time ago.
Hey there, scloopy!!! I'm a Grandma too and you are soooo right about the people here being nice.

I posted my age in a survey about what generation had the most players. Somebody (I can't recall who it was) said, "I guess elderly people can play too." I still laugh every time I think about that. Um, I may be VERY mature, but I will NEVER be elderly...no matter how old I get.

Elderly, never - slower, yes. It is like at the softball field, I am known as "The Older Lady Coach". Those of us who fall in the "Older" catagory are also in the catagory "Smarter than the average bear". :)

Hello great ladies, come visit both young and old in the OT forum. We need more wise words there. I'm sure you won't be intimidated by the lively discussion and disparate views.

Wiser babes we all adore,
And in OT, even more!

I do believe disern (sp) another "gentleman" in the group.

I have so enjoyed just reading, getting help and every now and again I actually know the answer.

Thanks for the invitation, birdjaguar. I have to leave for work soon, but I'll check it out tonight or this weekend. :)

I need to know why the game cheats.
Background: I have the Civ III: Complete. I have had to reload it a few times because of errors I made while loading. So I have not gotten very far in the Conquest campaigns.
Now to the cheat--
I am presently playing or at least trying to play the Intro 3. I was playing as William of the Netherlands. I had upgraded all my spearmen to Swiss Mercenaries. A Byzantine Spearman was invading my territory. He had already defeated a Swiss merc. But suffered a hit point. He moved into the square adjacent to my town. I hit him with a missle from the Trebuchet. Now that leaves him with just one red health mark(?) I then activated another swiss merc and attacked. and got beaten ---Two dead mercs. and a very strong enemy --- HA... Sid Meier's team CHEATS!!!! and I don't know how to stop it. The cheating is why I never will play on line. It is why I play video games rather then board games. I can't stand cheating. I am not looking for and easy game just a fair one. Why??? or is this just my paranoia???

roughly translated- s**t happens. pray to the gods of the RNG and offer sacrifices in the hope that the next time it acts favourable on your part.

also, swiss mercs are something like one attack and 4 defence, the spearman, even an uber-spearman like the one you mentioned there frankly has no chance against a fortified swiss merc in a city. bombard the spearman to red then let it retreat. Also, consider terrain when attacking, and rivers, it makes alot of difference

Yup!! :mischief:

Attacking Tip: Make sure the Odds for winning the Battle are 3-1 in your favor! ;)

In case you don't want to do the math, there are "Battle Calculators" available for downloading here at CFC. :)

This is probably another one of my really dumb questions, but so what else is new.

In Age of Discovery I now have "Treasure" I understand I am suppose to take it back to my capital, but how do I get the blooming thing to move?

Hmm, haven't ever played much of the Conquests... but my guess is that either you have to "pick up" the treasure unit by moving a unit onto the square then right clicking tile for a "carry" or "load" order or something... or else, you're trying to move the treasure unit into mountains or something, which it might not be able to do.

Yes you have to 'capture' and then 'pick up' the treasure unit and then take it back to your Capital ... hmmm I think other coties do not work ...
Anyway I think you then 'drop' the treasure unit or ... the treasure unit is automatically converted to culture/cash/whatever ... bit hazy with all the last bit because I've only ever picked these things up and never made it back to a city :(

I think that when you take it back to the set location (the capital city or whatever), then it automatically converts into whatever it's set to do, as soon as it reaches that square. ;)

Use a unit to capture the treasure. The treasure will then disappear and the text describing the unit will be red when right clicking it. Bring the unit back to the capital and the treasure will be delivered, you will get the gold, and the unit will be normal again.

Ah ha, I am glad I asked. It makes sense after all of you tell me. "Pick it up - Stupid". What makes it funny is there was no one in the family that could tell me that. My 8 year old Grandson was the one to figure it out but that was after I came back and saw the answers. Thanks much group!!!!!

Right, Swiss Mercenaries are defensive units and shouldn't be used offensively. The game doesn't cheat at combat. It's your tactics that need improving.

Okay, then why do the swiss mercs when played by the 'puter kcik the chit out of my mid.evil infantry. You folks say it doesn't cheat? I even had the danged things in red and they still won. Oh ya -- another thing the setting is Chieltan and least aggressive. I am not sure they are working right. Also, If my pikemen (when playing Germany) are fortified in a city they still get their butt kicked. I have read many of the hints here and have tried to apply them but nothing seems to work.

I won't give up but this does not seem to be a level playing field to me. If that ain't cheating I don't know what is.  ;)

Thanks for your comments and I will try harder. :)

Seems kind of weird that you're having quite that much bad luck... maybe it just seems that way because you're ignoring the times that you DO win?
