To be more precise, they add one shield and one commerce to every square that already produces at least one.
AND, remember...........Despotism will still suppress 1 shield and 1 commerce where the count exceeds 2!
(Example: Under Despotism, a forest will still only give 2 shields in the GA)

So, if possible, it's desirable to get out of Despotism BEFORE entering the Golden Age! :)

Which is especially hard if you are a fast-wonder builder ( like myself :D ) or an early warmonger with an ancient UU

Well yeah. That's a given.

The latest update for Conquest was downloaded and installed. When I tried to load a game in progress the following happened:

Data IO Operation System Error: DATE
Data IO Operation System Error: PLGI
Data IO Operation System Error: CNSL

Then big sign:
Load Error
Error Reading File

I checked out some of the other games and they loaded fine. Is there anyway the game in progress can be played or is it down the tubes?

I'm having this happen in my current 1.22 game. (Which I started long after patching.) The only thing I've found to work is to roll back to the previous turn and go from there. Not sure why this is happening, tho.

I tried that on several of the saves in the game with no luck. I guess if I want to play the game I will have to move the save unload the 1.22 and reload the original game. I hope someone can tell us why it is happening and how to fix it.

This has never happened to me before this particular game. I figured the files got corrupted somehow, scrambled on the disc or something like that.

Can you try this on another PC and see if it still happens?

I transferred the game to another computer. Upgraded as before and had the same problem. I guess I will just have to finish the game before I upgrade.

Hi, I would like to do a dual installation - I know the basics behind it, but I need some help just setting it up. I would like to install Conquests a "second time" so I can update it to 1.22 (I have my current one at 1.15 for a SG and a SP game). Is all I have to do it is install Conquests again and say something as the directory (ie; C:/Program Files/Infogrames Interactive/, but *not* adding the Civilization III/ part). Any help is appreciated. :goodjob:

I think you cannot install C3C a second time (setup would ask you to remove or re-install).

What you can do:
-be on 1.15; make a backup of the files and the folder "Text" in the c3c root directory (you could e.g. place a folder named "version115" in that root directory to copy the stuff into it)
-install patch 1.22; again, backup files and folder "Text" in c3c root (e.g. copy into a folder named "version122")

You can switch versions by copying the content out of the respective backup folder into the c3c root directory before launching c3c.
Each of your backup folder takes about 12-13mb additional space.

Note that not all files in c3c root and in the folder "Text" need to be backed up (patch affected files are listed in the 1.22-patch-readme).

You could also zip your 2 backup folders (->extract with 'overwrite existing files w/o confirmation' to c3c root in case you want to switch the version). This is a very neat way if you want to spare the overwrite warnings when copying manually. Plus, you would not possibly just move the files out of your backup-up folders (which of course would empty them...).

Maybe such dual install would also solve scloopy's problem.:)

Thanks Grille! Fortunately, turner helped me in the chatroom a little earlier, but he said exactly what you said. Thanks though. Now I have 1.15 and 1.22. yay! :)

Is it possible to disable diplomacy music but only diplomacy music? I have an older computer and the music change that occurs when entering and leaving diplomacy lags it if there's a lot of activity, especially if there's consecutive instances of diplomacy. In vanilla Civ3 diplo music could be disabled simply by changing the name of the diplo music folder, the game didn't care that it couldn't find the music files. But Conquests produces an error and closes.

I did this simply bu copying my main Civ folder to a new name. Then, I upgraded the original Civ. Worked fine.

Question: what happens if you give a unit the stealth attack ability, and allow it to attack artillery? Does it just get destroyed?

You probably wouldn't be able to target it in-game. :(
