Hey lads and lasses,
My current laptop is a PB G4 Titanium 800Mhz. I've just purchased it from eBay to replace my 12 iBook G4 1.2Ghz...I know it's a downgrade, but I needed the higher res badly and the new MacBook Pros just don't quite cut it for me just yet - I'm waiting for rev 2!

Anyway, yes, the TiBook I have does meet the minimum sys requirements but does anyone have one and if so, how do they find C3C on it? Playable? Laggy?

I think I may have to hold out for the summer when I can hopefully buy a rev 2 MacBook Pro and Civ 4 together :) But if someone is enjoying C3C on their old TiBook, please let me know!

Gavin

Should be OK, but you've missed out a couple of important parameters:

1. How much RAM do you have? Anything less than 512 MBytes and Tiger will struggle, with or without Civ3 Complete. I GByte would be good.

2. What video do you have? Looking at the Apple specs the DVI model seems to be the one with an 800 MHz option, and that has a Radeon 7500 with 32 MBytes.

By way of an approximate comparison, I have just installed Complete on my old G4 tower. I've upgraded the old gal to a 1 GHz cpu which is a little faster than yours, but I doubt that will be very significant. I do have 1.12 GBytes of RAM though. Your video is probably similar to mine (Geforce 4 MX, 32 MBytes).

It seems pretty responsive to me. Just occasionally unit moves look slightly laggy, but switching own-unit-move animation off there are no problems, and I prefer that way anyway. I know where I'm moving them to, and I'd rather they just went there.

It's just the basic 800Mhz so it has 512MB of RAM and the Radeon 7500 with 32MB.

I think I will order it from MacGold today...my only sticking point is that the optical drive in this PowerBook is very dodgy and only works sometimes. (I installed Tiger and iLife etc by using an old iMac DV in Firewire Target mode but that's no use for C3C when I'm staying in hotel rooms!)

So, is there a way round the necessity to need the DVD in the drive to play the game? The old trick of making an image using Disk Utility doesn't work anymore?
