Now w/ an official Civ4 patch released, I'm curious as to the status of the C3C patch that was in the mix. Any news here Brad? :)

Yeah, I wrapped up the Civ4 patch, then had to do a quickie Tiger Woods 2k5 patch (also just released) and now the Civ3 patch is finally working its way through our QA again. I'd say "real soon" but I've said that before to no results. ;)

As I said before in a previous thread, am I the only one here that has lost faith in Aspyer ever releasing a patch? No online play, no scenario play. How is this any different than the original Civ III? While I'm grateful to Brad for porting this game to the Mac, it was a shoddy port and you've been telling us we'll get a patch for like six months now.

Can you be more specific? Online play and scenarios work for me. I've been trying to get more info about how online play is not working for those affected, and so far, I've literally got no information to go on. Since it works for me, I can only assume that perhaps it's a firewall configuration problem.

"Thanks! You suck!" - message received. :)

:rotfl:

Down here in the South, we like to say "bless his/her heart" before we rip on them. It's the polite thing to do. :)

Btw, I need to check out the MP.

In Civ Content, if I try to load any file a pop-up shows up saying:

Load Error

File Not Found

"Art\Flics\cunobelin.flc"

The game will now exit.

When I contacted Aspyr support in February, they said it would be addresed in the upcoming patch. It's August. Where's this patch?

Online has never worked. All I get from Aspyr is that it's Game Ranger's fault. Where does the buck stop?

Could there be a typo there? The f;c looks suspicious.

I'm not aware of MP issues, but I should be, other than what has been posted here.

I don't fault you for your anger/frustration, but you should realize that they are going to address it. They always address issues w/ their games. Lately, their blockbuster - Civ4 - was just released that came across major issues. So, that got priority. Frustrating but understandable.

It's certainly not "any file" since that would mean every one referenced this, and they don't. Why don't you tell me specifically which one you are seeing this problem with?

It's on my hard drive. It's also on a few machines in our QA department, and on our build engineer's hard drive. ;)

Beats me. Why don't you tell me more about what problems you are having? "Never worked" clashes with what I see here, which is "always worked" and without more to go on, I can't possibly tell you if what you are seeing is a GameRanger problem (unlikely) or a bug in Civ3 or a firewall problem on your end. Walk me through what happens for you step-by-step.

Every Civ-Content file that I try to load brings up a similar message. I'm not going to post every error message that I see on 100 files.

It's been awhile. I'll have to test it. My firewall's off on my iBook, though.

As I said before, I'd be happy if you'd just tell me one of the files that gives you the error. I picked a few at random with the release that was on the DVD and could not get an error, and it's clear to me that this is not a problem that affects them all, so I really just need one.

I've done a Spotlight search on my system and the only file reference to "cunobelin" is in Civ4, where it appears to be the name of a leader. It doesn't appear anywhere in Civ3, so I can't imagine where your Civ3 games are getting a requirement for it from unless you've loaded up an additional mod somehow. For the error to appear for every game you try you'd probably have to have replaced your default .biq file or something :hmm:.

I don't have mods nor do I have Civ 4. That particular error message was for the file Ancient World.bix.

I wiped my hard drive and re-installed Tiger, Before and after the wipe/install, these files never worked.

I'll have a look at that file. Note, it *is* in the PtW Scenarios folder, which is in the "Unsupported" part of the Aspyr installation :p

[UPDATE] Yes. That scenario calls out a number of new leaders, and there are no leaderhead flc files for them. It looks as if the folder:

.../Civ III Complete/Play the World Game Data/Scenarios/Ancient Mediterranean/Art/Flics/

is missing.

I don't know what other folders have gone AWOL, but that one's enough to stop some of the PtW scenarios working.

Crazy. What should I do? As I posted before, I have no mods and this is a fresh install of the OS and Civ III Complete.

I can't speak for Mac installation, but many (most) mods in PTW were broken for the PC, as well. The best solution may be to go to the TAM thread here and get the full version of the mod. As for installing that on a Mac, I will defer to Alan's judgement. ;)

Edit: Looks like it has Mac instructions in the first post!

If those components are all part of the TAM mod then I have an inside track to the developer currently, having helped to get his Civ4 mod to work with the Mac version. i can have a look at what is needed .... after I get the Civ4 SGOTM 2 competition kicked off this week.
